Hi Liz - my info, scant as it is, about Francis Coburn
comes from a short bio printed 1913 about his
son-in-law James Francis Spelman. "A History of
Montana" by Helen Sanders, published in 1913 indicated
JFS wife Isabelle/Isabel Coburn was from NY and her
father was Francis Coburn, of Scotland, a train
engineer. His wife Mary Cross was from Ireland -
according to H Sanders.
Any connection to your Francis Coburn?

The only clues I have is that both my grandmother and a cousin of my father
who was a grandson of the second son of the pair stated that my
gg-grandmother was "a stern Scottish lady". So, that tradition came down
both lines. Other than this, I have NO proof at this point that the family
was from Scotland. I also have NO proof that she was born in Canada. I
have not had time to find them in the census for California which would
show the latter if true.

1861. Cannot find Abel's father though. Could you please let me have the

No. But, all indications are that my Coburn family probably was not in
Massachusetts until at least 150 years later.
