Hi Vicki & John
many thanks for your message and my apologies for the long overdue response!
My quest is based on little family information that I have - my great granddad was born as a result of an affair - his mother was Eva Midwood, and the info that I have been given was that his father was William Cobley and worked for the railway in Wimbledon/merton. He was born in 1913 in an area that today is I think technicaly Raynes Park. He used to collect money from his father until he found out who he was! His half-sister is now well into her 90s and in a care home, so I can no longer ask questions - I don't know how reliable the family story is in terms of name of father or occupation, but it may tie up with someone out there! there seemed to be lots of cobleys in and around that area at that time! I thought it would be possible for her to meet a grocer as she worked as a cook........?!
Anyway, I hope this information has been of use to you, if not no worries! many thanks again for taking the time to respond to me
Best Regards
Becky
