Nicholas was the son of Antonius Coble and Anna Emig. Anthony was the son of Johan George Kobel, original settler from Germany to Pa. where the family lived from 1733 until they moved to what was Orange County, N.C. and is now in Guilford County, near the line with Alamance County, in N.C. You might check to see if Nicholas J had a son named Jacob Coble, if the dates should fit.

> There was a large exodus of people leaving N.C. for cheaper and more land in Tenn, Ky. and Ohio after the Revolutionary War. Many of the Coble clan left at this time. The Cobles were a very close family and there was lots of cousins marrying cousins. Glass was the name of a Guilford German settler as a contemporary of Antonius and John Coble. You might check the lines of George Coble who was a brother and came at the same time. I believe Adam was the other of the four sons who came from Pa. to N.C. I trace to Antonius (Anthony). You may find their lines on the internet. There is a book on the Coble Settlers and their lines available from the Alamance Geneology Society in Burlington, N.C. Unfortunately it is difficult to use as it is not indexed. Anthony had a daughter who married a Phillip Glass. They tended to be very clannish. I hope this is a help. I have found that some of the material accepted by the DAR is not correct as they were lax a few years ago abou!
> t what they accepted. You might want to double check their records anyway. There is ample material on line and if all else fails, go to Family Research Center. Some of that material is also wrong. This should give you a start. Do you know their county in Tenn.? The Cobles came from Hoffenhiem(er) a little northwest of Heidleburg in the lands of the Bishop of Speyers. Probably came from Switzerland to Germany originally. Will be found as Goble, Kobel, Gobbel, Coble is the way the British heard the word and that's what it became in America. ptn

The Holt's were of the German settlers to Alamance County and intermarried with the Cobles from time to time. They came originally to the Second Germanna Colony in Culpepper, Va. There is a Germanna web list and a Germanna Research Group. The original settler was a Michael Hold (t) Germans of the Palatine area seldom used the letter T in their spoken word. English it became Holt. I do not know which child of Michael's she descended from and I do not have his line. I descend from his son Nicholas and wife, Eve Wilhoit. There was a Michael Holt Jr. and others. Good luck. ptn

Sons of Am. Revolution has parents of Sarah Ann Coble 1820-1869 as Jacob Coble (1791-1840 s of Nicholas Coble and Mary Lydia Deviney) and Sarah Shoffner. However, I have found no evidence of this and suspect her mother was Caty Lattimore Shoffner 1795-1822, the same mother as Jacob's first two, Mary 1814 and William 1816.
Sarah Ann Coble 1820-1869 married William Carroll Gordon.
Jacob is said to have married2 Mary Polly Kimbro (d of George Kimbro and Rachel Holt) in 1823 Bedford, who is also said to have married Richard J Williams in 1829 Bedford. However, both cannot be right as ages of children conflict.
The only census of Jacob I have that makes sense (looks like it really is him) is 1820 Guilford NC with wife and 1f 0-10 (1st child Mary).
If he married Mary Polly Kimbro in Bedford, perhaps they resided in Bedford, as he died in Shelbyville.
Does anyone have any further censuses for Jacob Coble and or Mary Polly Kimbro?
Does anyone know anything about this family?
Susie
