Subject: [GERMANNA] Misc. N.C. Family Locations
There were many early Garrett families in the 28 mile settlement area of
Germans along what is now the Guilford/Alamance Counties line, possibly
associated with The Brick Church (website) or Low's Church. Some still live
in the area today. The Summer name is also associated with this area of
German settlement. They are usually found in the area of Freidan's Church
in the northern most point of settlement area. There is a web site for this
church. Thanks to Elke for information on the book on Yadkin Valley
settlement. Hope to stop by the museum for a copy on my way to Forsyth
County on Thursday. There was a Berry family that settled among the Germans
in this same 28 mile long, 16 mile wide area and were involved with the
Battle of Alamance Creek. They still reside in SE Guilford/Randolph
counties. Maybe Craig Kilby can help me with the Bennett family who came
and settled in the middle of all of these Germans and intermarried with one
family, the Kobel (Coble) family for generations. This is also the area of
the Holt family settlement. They all came about the same time....early
1750's. Looking for connections. PTN

Wow- this was posted along time ago, I can only hope that you receive this message. I am only getting started in our family tree, however, I have photographs of my great-great grandmother- I believe "Mary Augstadt Coble" from Elizabethtown PA. My great Uncle has been giving me info to work with and he said that there was a "doctor" in the family. Please contact me ASAP so that we can exchange information. I look forward to hearing from you and would love to have the history you are researching? Is there a book?

Hi,Gill here, yes still around, however can confirm that I have William in Milton married to Lucy but no record of going to New Zealand, did all the family emmigrate for a better life? I do have a copy of William's grandfather's Will (John Cobbald born 1727 died 1796) as he died before our Thomas (born 1799) and your William they were not benefactors of the Will, all the other siblings and William's father are mentioned. Once I have finished transcribing I'll send through a copy, keep in touch. if there is some way you can let me have your email address I will be able to attach a photo of William's nephew Walter Edgar Cobbald (mother in laws grandfather). All for now Gill

My name is Ann I am a granddaughter to Verdie Vail. My Mom was Luceil Vail and she married Ed Holcomb. I have been trying to get Verdie's family line back and the farthest I can get is to his Great grandparents Wiley Carroll, Sr. and Susan Larkin. I have been told Larkin is not her last name. By any chance were you able to get back further? Can you give me any help? I don't have anything else on Wiley Coble
that I can share with you sorry. Ann
