Jannine asked about a Sarah Coble who married David Bennett in 1816, Orange County. Is any of this of help to you?
I have an Elizabeth Coble married to Elisha Bennett, 12, 19, 1831
They had a son Daniel Bennett who married a Nellie Coble. I trace to a daughter of that marriage, Frankin Bennett who married Harriet Coble. There are a lot of cousins marrying cousins in these two families.
Does anyone have a clue how the Bennett family and the Coble family (descendants of Antonius) became so close? I do realize that they lived in the same general area of SE Guilford County, N.C. And, they had land there prior to 1790. I know nothing about the Bennett's prior to the first Elizah Bennett who settled in SE Guilford at a location in Stinking Quarter that became known as Bennett's crossroads. Today, the land borders the intersection of NC Hwy.62 and the Alamance Church Road.. I think there were two Elijah Bennetts, father
and son.
********
I have a John Coble who died in (1815???) who married a Miss Staley
They had a daughter, Lizzie Coble who married an Elisha Bennett and a son John Coble who married Sally Shaddy
Their son, John Coble marrried Nancy Cook and they had a son named Wesley Coble who married Barbara Greeson.
Wesley and Barbara had a son John Wesley Coble who married Maud Isley, born 10, 18. 1898, died 5-21-1936
John Wesley and Maud Coble had two children, Annie Evelyn Coble and John McRae Coble

This is what I wrote to the Kobel list back in 1998: Jean

during this time--Jean]
Jacob Kobel aged 27, his wife, a son aged 1/2, Catholic, miller were in the

Jacob Kobel of Hunterstown was a soldier in 1711 (Palatine Volunteers to

course of twenty ot thirty years after Weiser and his friends left, several
other mills were established in and about Schorarie. One Cobel errected two
of those." (Simm's History of Schoharie page 80). Cobleskill, N. Y. took
it's
name from this 1709er (HJ). His name appears on Tulpehocken, Pa. tax and
road lists beginning in 1726/27. (The Hub of the Tulpehocken, by Earl W.
Ibach, page 12). The will of Jacob Kobel was dated 7 Aug 1731 and filed 16 Mar
1732/33 (Philadelphia Co. Will bk. E page 184) An especially fine article on
Jacob Kobel has been written by Shirley J. Turner and published in the
NATIONAL GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY QUARTERLY for Sept 1981 and should be studied by all
serious students of the family. The children of Jacob Kobel and Anna Maria
are:
1) Maria Sybilla married 13 Aug 1734 Johann Adam Diefenbach at Tulpehocken
(Stoever Church Books)

I do not own this book, but borrowed it thru inter-library loan. If you have
never used this wonderful service offered by your local library, you should
give it a try. Simply go to your library and request a book, the library
then
does a national search to find a library who has the book you requested. It
is then shipped to your local library. The service is free of charge.
Hello Stephanie,
You are in luck as your line is very well documented in "National
Genealogical Society's Quarterly" magazine. The September 1981, Volume 69, Number 3 is
entitled Jacob Kobel 1682-1731 of the Palatinate, New York and Berks County,
Pennsylvania. And, Henry Kobel 1712-1755 of Berks County, PA. and the Kobel
Massacre on December 1981, Volume 69, Number 4. Both are written by the late
Shirley J. Turner, C.G.
If you write to the National Genealogical Society at:
_newsmagazine(a)ngsgenealogy.org_ (mailto:newsmagazine@ngsgenealogy.org)
ask for copies of these two issues.
Also, the messages that have been sent to the KOBEl mail list are archived
at:
_http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl_
(http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl)
Do some searches there entering Jacob Kobel or Henry Kobel. I recall having
many discussions on this list about this Kobel line
Henry Jones has written several books on this Kobel line and the Palatinate
families of New York. You might try to borrow them through inter library
loan from your local library.

They are good references and then go verify the information for

Also, the same question applies to "COBLE FAMILY RECORD UPDATE"
compiled by John L. Coble Jr. of Calhoun, Ga. Sept. 1981 and has anyone
attempted an additional update since then?
Finally, to those in Guilford Co., do you know if, per chance, any of
the Richard Petty Family from Randleman, NC have any COBLE linkages in
their genealogy?

I would like to thank eveyone who has shared information recently to the List. In my Coble line, I find frequent marriages with the Bennett family. I also noticed that my Cobles married cousins. Please feel free to make corrections and additions to the following information. This is a constant quest for knowledge. I have referenced the Coble Family Records, marriage bonds and wills, ship records, etc.. Thank you for what you may offer. ptn
My line in America begins with Johann (John) George Kobel (Jr) . He was born in 1690 in Hoffenshein-Sins, Germany. He died Feb. 22, 1765 He married Maria Barbara Geisler, May 13, 1716. They came to America arriving in the port of Philadelphia aboard the ship "Hope." and lived in Lancaster County, Pa.
1. I descend from their son Antonius (Anthony) Coble, b. August 24, 1717 in Hoffenheim, Germany; d. Nov. 1793 in Guilford County, N.C. Guilford and Alamance Counties were formed from Orange County, N.C. He became a British citizen by appearing before the Rowan County Court in Salisbury, N.C. in 1762. His was probably a farmer and was married to Anna Maria Emig, born about 1720 in Hoffenheim, Germany.H lived on Shockless Creek.
2. I descend from Anthony's son David. He was born in Orange County, N.C. He married Philapena Troxler. He died about 1815. He is believed to have been a farmer and a miller.

Can someone on the list advise me how reliable the information in the "Coble
Family Records" has proven out over the years?
Also, the same question applies to "COBLE FAMILY RECORD UPDATE" compiled by
John L. Coble Jr. of Calhoun, Ga. Sept. 1981 and has anyone attempted an
additional update since then?
Finally, to those in Guilford Co., do you know if, per chance, any of the
Richard Petty Family from Randleman, NC have any COBLE linkages in their
genealogy?

Hello List Members,
I could not agree with Patsy more. I would be wonderful if this list had
lots of activity! It has been too quiet for too long. The unique thing about
belonging to a surname list is that it could be very possible that other
members on the list descend from the same ancestors. But, if we don't share
information and have discussions, then there is nothing gained.
I would like to encourage everyone to post their line. Ask questions,
explore. It does not matter if you have one name or 10 generations, let us know
what you know or more importantly, what you would like to know. Lets make
some connections happen.
An example of the format might be:
Name
Birth and death dates
Locations of where they lived
Marriage
Children
If you don't have any of that information, post what you know and what you
would like to know. Please put the ancestors name in the subject line. If
you find a connection or can offer help to someone, please send your messages
to the list and not privately so that we can all follow the trail.
I am also sending this message to the KOBEL list. I apologize for the
duplication if you are a member of both lists.
Thank you,
Jean

Among family papers I am currently sorting through I find one sheet of paper which I believe to be a copy of the cover sheet of .....it says.....Coble Family Newsletter "Family on the Move" Volume I July 1996
The cover design is a handdrawn map of Germany and Switzerland and has a side notation that says "Cities of Early Cobles". I do appreciate that during the period of Coble history before coming to America, these two areas and Austria were a part of the Holy Roman Empire without defined borders as we would know them today. There is a covered wagon pulled by oxen in the lower left corner. I have no idea how I acquired this sheet.
Can anyone on this website enlighten me about this publication? Is there still a Coble Family Newsletter or was this the first and only copy? I do not recall how I might have acquired this copy of the cover sheet.
The map covers the route of the Rhine River from Switzerland to Koblen? which I believe may be in present day Belgium. In Switzerland, the town of Wenger and the city of Bern are given. In Germany, on the Danube River the cities of Ulm,Bofingen, Rordlenben and Donauworth are given. I wonder if the latter three or four places may have been in what is now Austria. Up the Rhine, Strasbourg and Worms are noted, In the central area Stuttgart and farther north one finds Sinshein, Heidleberg, Darmstadt, Frankfort and then Karau and Wurzburg on the Main (Mein) River.. I may not have interpreted the hand printed letters correctly.
Hopefully some of you on the website can enlighten me about the Newsletter and the significance of the noted towns to the study of Coble genealogy. If the newsletter is still published, I would like to subscribe.
I have visited the areas along the Danube, Main, and Rhine Rivers. This is what initiated my interest in studying my Coble family history. I wondered why these people left such a beautiful area to come to British America. I descend from Anthonius Coble who settled in Guilford County, N.C. in the mid-eighteen hundreds. I am not an accomplished genealogist and always appreciate any information anyone is willing to share. I feel that there is some debate as to the origin of Antonius' family in Europe and would like to know more about that. On my second trip to the area I did briefly visit Wenger and there was one Hans Kobel, a Roads Supervisor, living there at that time. Unfortunately my visit was brief as I was on a train and I was not able to speak to him.The stationmaster did know him.
Hopefully some of you on this too often quiet website will be able to share information with me. I am especially interested in the places where the early Cobles lived. P.Tucker Nesbit
