Hello List Members,
I could not agree with Patsy more. I would be wonderful if this list had
lots of activity! It has been too quiet for too long. The unique thing about
belonging to a surname list is that it could be very possible that other
members on the list descend from the same ancestors. But, if we don't share
information and have discussions, then there is nothing gained.
I would like to encourage everyone to post their line. Ask questions,
explore. It does not matter if you have one name or 10 generations, let us know
what you know or more importantly, what you would like to know. Lets make
some connections happen.
An example of the format might be:
Name
Birth and death dates
Locations of where they lived
Marriage
Children
If you don't have any of that information, post what you know and what you
would like to know. Please put the ancestors name in the subject line. If
you find a connection or can offer help to someone, please send your messages
to the list and not privately so that we can all follow the trail.
I am also sending this message to the KOBEL list. I apologize for the
duplication if you are a member of both lists.
Thank you,
Jean
Coble and Kobel list manager
Which Samuel Coble are you referring to??

I noticed that your Henry Coble, b.1763 married a Mary Holt. Did he
live
in Guilford county? Was Mary Holt the daughter or granddaughter of
Michael
Holt who came to settle in Orange County from the 2nd Germanna Colony in
Virginia? In my line I have a Nellie Holt who traces to him. She
married my gggrandfather, Samuel Coble. I have enjoyed and learned
much
from the Germanna Website. There must be many other Coble's out there
who
married into what we might call the Michael Holt descendents family. I
would be especially interested in hearing from others who might trace to
Samuel Coble, died 1862. He had children by two wives. Thank you for
responding. It would be great to have more activity on this web site.
A
printed newsletter would be great. In the meanwhile, if there is lack
of
interest could we have notes contributed to the website concerning our
history. patsy Tucker Nesbit

I'm hoping to get a little action going on the wehsite. I would love to get
copies of the newsletters and might hope one will start again. Thanks for
sending this. I am sure your Mary Holt must connect to the Michael Holt who
came to N.C. from the 2nd Germanna settlement along the Robinson River in
Orange County, Va. near Culpepper. Do you receive the Germanna rootsweb.com
mailings. They come at least once a day. It is a very active list. The
research is good and documented. I started receiving it because of the good
German history before and after the Va. settlements and followed it for over
a year before I learned I had a connection with Michael Holt, a member of
the second Germanna Colony who came to N.C. with his family to Orange
County....now the part of Guilford and Alamance inhabited by our Cobles.
The have a web site.... Germanna Foundation.com, I think. We finally went
to a reunion this past July and really enjoyed the event. Great speakers on
the Germans to came to America. In fact, they have a cruise with speakers
going out of Fort Myers in Feb. We've decided to go. I am impressed with
the research that goes into the work of their dedicated members. You might
enjoy it. P. Nesbit

I said that my Antonius Coble came to America in the mid-eighteen hundreds. This is incorrect. He came to Pa. in 1732 on the ship "Hope", I believe and migrated to N.C. in the mid-seventeen hundreds. Sorry about that lapse. ptnesbit.
Maybe there would be a bit of interest in your Newsletter again. Do you
have any back copies that might be available for purchase. Would it be
possible for you to write a bit about the various places listed on the
newsletter map cover to share with others on this site. It was just a few
years ago that I first contacted this site and it seems there was more
activity then. I'm sure you have written to me concerning some of my very
beginner questions. Are there others out there who are interested in the
early history of the family. I really appreciate the help given throught
the site. Zelma has become a friend as well as a tutor in Coble history
even though we have never met, we do keep in touch. Let's hear more from
others. PatsyTuckerNesbit

I noticed that your Henry Coble, b.1763 married a Mary Holt. Did he live
in Guilford county? Was Mary Holt the daughter or granddaughter of Michael
Holt who came to settle in Orange County from the 2nd Germanna Colony in
Virginia? In my line I have a Nellie Holt who traces to him. She
married my gggrandfather, Samuel Coble. I have enjoyed and learned much
from the Germanna Website. There must be many other Coble's out there who
married into what we might call the Michael Holt descendents family. I
would be especially interested in hearing from others who might trace to
Samuel Coble, died 1862. He had children by two wives. Thank you for
responding. It would be great to have more activity on this web site. A
printed newsletter would be great. In the meanwhile, if there is lack of
interest could we have notes contributed to the website concerning our
history. patsy Tucker Nesbit

Among family papers I am currently sorting through I find one sheet of paper which I believe to be a copy of the cover sheet of .....it says.....Coble Family Newsletter "Family on the Move" Volume I July 1996
The cover design is a handdrawn map of Germany and Switzerland and has a side notation that says "Cities of Early Cobles". I do appreciate that during the period of Coble history before coming to America, these two areas and Austria were a part of the Holy Roman Empire without defined borders as we would know them today. There is a covered wagon pulled by oxen in the lower left corner. I have no idea how I acquired this sheet.
Can anyone on this website enlighten me about this publication? Is there still a Coble Family Newsletter or was this the first and only copy? I do not recall how I might have acquired this copy of the cover sheet.
The map covers the route of the Rhine River from Switzerland to Koblen? which I believe may be in present day Belgium. In Switzerland, the town of Wenger and the city of Bern are given. In Germany, on the Danube River the cities of Ulm,Bofingen, Rordlenben and Donauworth are given. I wonder if the latter three or four places may have been in what is now Austria. Up the Rhine, Strasbourg and Worms are noted, In the central area Stuttgart and farther north one finds Sinshein, Heidleberg, Darmstadt, Frankfort and then Karau and Wurzburg on the Main (Mein) River.. I may not have interpreted the hand printed letters correctly.
Hopefully some of you on the website can enlighten me about the Newsletter and the significance of the noted towns to the study of Coble genealogy. If the newsletter is still published, I would like to subscribe.
I have visited the areas along the Danube, Main, and Rhine Rivers. This is what initiated my interest in studying my Coble family history. I wondered why these people left such a beautiful area to come to British America. I descend from Anthonius Coble who settled in Guilford County, N.C. in the mid-eighteen hundreds. I am not an accomplished genealogist and always appreciate any information anyone is willing to share. I feel that there is some debate as to the origin of Antonius' family in Europe and would like to know more about that. On my second trip to the area I did briefly visit Wenger and there was one Hans Kobel, a Roads Supervisor, living there at that time. Unfortunately my visit was brief as I was on a train and I was not able to speak to him.The stationmaster did know him.
Hopefully some of you on this too often quiet website will be able to share information with me. I am especially interested in the places where the early Cobles lived. P.Tucker Nesbit
