About Isaac, there are quite a few blacksmiths in the Shove line around this time. Could be Isaac's father was in Ireland with the military. Either a soldier or support, ie blacksmith civilian skilled labor.
About Ernest, I have heard the story but there is also another ED Shove or an imposter who was using his name at the time. Most likely not my Ernest because he was in the US by the 1880s possibly 1870s, not in England. The other Ernest David Shove family was in England. One of the other brothers was accused of using Ernests name. Not sure if anything ever came of it. At least that is the story my family has.
