I would like to know more about The Biography of John Cobb that said his
father went to AR and died. I am a descendant of Frances W. Cobb . 1822,
born in TN but died 1882 in Greenwood, AR. Her father was William Cobb b.
1772. His father was Noah Cobb, his father Samuel Cobb. William Cobb
married twice (1) Mary Anna Tennison 1775-1835 (2) Elizabeth Goddard. She
and William Cobb both died in 1843. Elizabeth Goddard married twice (1)
Charles Williams (2) William Cobb. I thought at first she married John Cobb
for Frances W. Cobb named her first son John C. Cobb. I have found no
marriage license for Elizabeth Goddard and William. If anyone has any info
on these families I would be really appreciative if someone shared it with
me.
Frances W. Cobb is my gg grandparent. She married George Ratterree. I
found their marriage reported in MS in 1833.
Samuel Cobb married Nancey Walker whose mother was Betsy Elizabeth Walker
b.1749 d. 1808. She was a full blood Cherokee. Her name was A-Chea-Take or
A-Doe-He, Caroline Genealogy.org/all/pafg2852/htm. Mother of John Cobb b.
1761, Samuel, James b. 1769, William b. 1772 and Noah b. 1782.

Thank you.

Semer's line is not connected to the Joseph of Isle of Wight group. His descendants do match the Madison Co, AL group and it appears that they are descended from Nicolas of Isle of Wight Co, VA... who has been ASSUMED by some to be related to Joseph but DNA evidence shows otherwise.
Highly frustrating to know to which genetic line one belongs but not be able to find the connection. Keep trying...

Thanks.
Neither Thomas nor William Cobb/Cobbs owned land on either side of the Ohio River that we have found. There are some tax records but no land ownership records.
They were both living in IND on the Bär/Bear farm (John Bär/Bear)father of Hester purchased the land in 1812 - Hesterm married - probably - William Cobb but no marriage records have been found) in the 1820 census.
They were both gone from IND after 1822 and a Thomas Cobbs was back on the Bear farm in the 1840 census - and then gone again.
The biography of my John Cobb (1881 Napa/Lake County CA) says that his father went to ARK where he died.
One of my Cobb cousins donated his DNA for the Cobb DNA Project - we descend from Ambrose Cobb/Cobbs. Isn't Semer Cobb from the Isle of Wight Cobb's? That is what I was told.
Believe me, we have been checking ALL the Cobbs who migrated through this area.
Most of Ambrose's descendants migrated south and then west. Mike Cobb who is has been coordinating this DNA group has my Cobb family as the 'orphan' of the family as none of the families seem to have been missing two men named Cobb who were in KY or IND in 1820. Mike suggested I look at the Cobb families who were in VA and might have 'sailed' down the Ohio directly from what was to become WVA. That is what I have been focusing on lately.
I do appreciate your writing - every bit of info helps.
Margie

Perhaps it might help to find the land owned by the father on both sides of the Ohio.....
Also study all the Cobb families that went through IN and also had connections to AR... for instance the family of Semer Cobb. IF you have any living males with the Cobb surname from this line then the DNA project at Ancestry would be very helpful in figuring this out.
