Absolutely - as a female Hinton I would hope that more males would donate
their DNA sample to the 'gene pool' and surprise yourself with your
ancestors.
My Cobb cousin donated his DNA several years ago and that is how we learned
which of the NINE (9) Cobb families who immigrated in the early 1600s to the
New World that we descend from - without this information, I would still be
looking for the wrong family tree.
EACH of those NINE Cobb immigrants had DIFFERENT DNA - something I found
amazing.
One interesting story I will relate on the Cobb DNA project. My Cobb
cousin - the one who supplied our DNA sample - grew up on the same town in
Northern California with another Cobb family.
When my cousin was asked - how are we related? My cousin said, ask Margie -
me, the one who has been researching my various family trees since I was a
teenager (- that was back in the olden days - when my kids said I had
dinosaurs for pets - GRIN -) and when both sets of DNA were compared, there
was only ONE marker that matched. Almost unbelievable, but true.
Now I have an 'almost cousin' and we keep in close contact.
When I began researching my family names, I thought my Hinton ancestors came
into the Virginia area - after all, Sir Thomas Hinton's investment company
funded Jamestown. And, the best known Cobb family arrived in Massachusetts.
Was I ever surprised when I learned that my Cobb family was the Ambrose
Cobbs of the Virginia group and my Hinton family immigrated to
Pennsylvania - and much later than I thought - in the 1700s.
DO get your DNA tested.

You all might want to consider doing this.. It has been of massive
assistance on the Cobb DNA project..

We appreciate keeping us in the recesses of Cobb names -
I am searching for the parents of three KNOWN siblings:
John Cobb born 1814 in Henry County, KY,
Mary Cobb born 1815 in Jefferson County, IND and
Hester Cobb born 1816-1820 in Jefferson County, IND
Their father farmed both sides of the Ohio River and didn't let his feet grow any moss anywhere he was at the time.
Thanks, Margie

Sorry about that.
I just realized that my name and email didn't get added to that post.
My Thomas Cobbs who married Hester Bear (plus other spellings) were married in the early 1800s probably in Henry County, KY.
I have been trying to trace my Cobbs from VA to KY - our DNA shows we are descended from Ambrose Cobb/Cobbs, and we are trying to make the great leap from the 1600s to the 1800s when so many of these people were traveling around the country and not leaving records.
Again, I apologize - while hoping someone out there recognizes these names for us.
Margie Hinton

Faye, We are connected with this line, but it is back several generations.
This is the Merewether Lewis line.
On a 35 year old chart I have, made by a fellow reseacher of mine, it indicates that Capt Robert CoBBS and William Tellis COBBS' father, Thomas (d 1826) were 2nt cousins.

Thanks so much for checking for me Faye.
The Hester Cobb who married William Potter looks interesting - is there a
date for their marriage?
I researched the Seymour Cobb family - they descend from the Isle of Wight
group - different DNA than mine. I learned there were nine (9) different
Cobb groups who came into the New World - each with different DNA - so that
really complicates finding the correct ancestors.
I do appreciate your looking for these for me.
