Our beloved mother, Amy Cobbs, 83 of Faber, VA entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville, Virginia.
She was born on March 15, 1927, in Faber, Virginia (Nelson County) to the late Ed Johnson and Rena Hansberry Johnson. She attended school in Faber and worked many, many years as a devoted housekeeper.
She was the widow to the late Charles Cobbs, Jr.
In addition to her parents, Amy was preceded in death by four brothers Gleason, Massie and Tommy Johnson and Edward Carter; two sisters Ethel White and Ella Turner and two grandsons William and Pane Cobbs.
Amy was a devoted member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Faber, VA,
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons John Cobbs and wife Pauline of Proffitt, VA, Vernon Cobbs and wife Ada of Charlottesville, VA, Charles Cobbs and wife LaShanda of Fort Belvoir, VA; two daughters Carole Gordon of Monrovia, CA; Betty Anderson and husband Robert of Faber, VA; one son-in-law Stanley L. Oakcrum of North Garden, VA; one sister Ida Alexander of Faber, VA; six grandsons John Jr., Paul, Jalen, Charles and Ned Cobbs and Shawn Oakcrum; two granddaughters Jennifer Thomasson and Brianna Cobbs; 12 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Bertha Johnson of Covesville, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Faber, Virginia with Rev. James Wright officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday May 31, 2010, from 6 to 7 pm at the funeral home
The family would like to extend special thanks to the Faber Rescue Squad attendants and driver, also the UVa Emergency Room Nurses and Doctors, the 8 West Nurses, Doctors, and PCA's on call during the evening of May 25, and the morning of May 26.
