This is great! The 1850 KY ancestry.com indexer missed this one. It had F.
[for Felix] G. COBB for page 227b but missed Fountain H. COBB on page 227a.
I should have read both pages! This is an indication that Fountain H.
[1814/15 VA in 1850, 1860, and 1870 censuses] and Felix H. [1820/1 TN in
1860 and 1860 censuses ] may have been brothers. If the TN birth for Felix
is correct then their parents probably in TN in 1840 and 1830 and maybe
1820.
Felix's 1850 census is:
pg 227b
180/180
F. G. COBB [shoemaker in 1860 census; I didn't check this in 1850] 29 TN [b.
1820/1 TN]
Almeda 24 TN
Hariett 7 TN
William 4 TN
The 1850 Wilson Co., TN (where Fountain H. Cobb and Sarah Spurlock were
married about 1839) has in 1850:
pg 378
882/882
William COBB 27 VA [b. 1822/3 VA]
Martha A. 21 TN
Mary J. 2 TN
Robert A. 6/12 TN
P. NICHOL 26 (male) GERMANY
Since Fountain and Felix both has sons named William and an older William
was still in Wilson Co., TN in 1850, there's a good chance that Fountain H.
[b. 1814/5 VA], Felix G. [b. 1820/1 TN], and William [b. 1822/3 VA] were
brothers and son of an even older William COBB/COBBS b. abt. 1790 in VA. The
birth places shown in the census for either Felix or William may be
incorrect or it's possible that Felix [a tradesman rather than a farmer] was
not a brother of Fountain and William.
Cheers to CCarnivale for injecting new life into the search.
Theron Smith.

I am looking for parents of the following:
1. Fountain H. COBBS/COBB b. 1815, VA [tradition supports Halifax Co.]
First Marriage: about 1839, Wilson Co., TN
Sarah SPURLOCK b. abt, 1820, TN
(her ancestors traced back 6 generations to to Halifax and Spotsylvania
Cos., VA and WALES.)
Moved to Butler Co., KY around 1850
Children:
Mary A. b1840/1 TN
John L. b. 1845 TN m. 21 May 1872, Butler Co., KY, Nancy E. Hunter
[the son of interest to me; their son, Harvey C. Cobbs moved to Wood Co.,
TX between 1910 and 1914.]
William Meredith b. 1847/8 TN married Jennie V. ----. Their son
Fountain Cobbs ii (b. 1873) married 28 Jan 1898 in Butler Co., KY, Martha
Susan Dockery and had son Meredith (b. 1899)
Thomas b. 1849/50 TN
-----------------------> moved to KY
Samuel b. 1852/3 KY
James F. b. 1856/7 KY
2d Marragee: Mrs. Martha (----) Kirtley; b. 1837/8 VA; they married after
1860. She had a daughter Martha Kirtley.
I cannot find anything in an 1850 census resembling the family of Fountain
H. and Sarah nor anything regarding his parents. Only Cobb in Wilson Co., TN
was a William Cobb (born 1822/3, VA) - perhaps a brother of Fountain b.
1815.
There are two other Fountain Cobbs/Cobb mentioned on Internet pages with no
known relation to each other or to the above. These are:
I. Of Bedford Co., VA
1. John Cobb [abt. 1800] m. Nancy Haynes
2. Henry C. Cobb [abt. 1830] m. Matilda J. HAWKINS. The HAWKINS of
Bedford, Culpeper, Craig, and Orange Cos., VA are well traced.
3. Fountain H. Cobb, c. 1865, VA
II. Of Halifax Co., VA; NC; Jessamine Co., KY
1. Addison Cobb b. 1711
2. Vintor Cobb b. 1751
3. John Addison Cobb b. 1773
4. John W. Cobb b. abt. 1818 m. Sallie Hunter. Of Jessamine Co., KY
5. Fountain Cobb b. 1858/9 married (1) Mary T. English and
(2) Bertha Cheney
Regards to all,
Theron Smith
