The paper is about Ambrose Cobbs who was a brother of Joseph Cobbs and came on the "Treasurer". His wife and 2 children, Benjamin and Joseph, came in 1624. It discusses Robert Cobbs (who appeared in 1651 as a resident of York) and his son Edmund. Edmund died in 1692 and one of his brothers, Robert, carried on the line. Robert had 3 sons, Thomas, John, and Robert, and these are the heads of 3 distinct lines. The paper discusses the descendants of the first two mainly, in VA & in GA. He says of Robert's line that "This branch of the Cobb family (Robert's) has not been traced, but Chancellor Cobbs, of Alabama, comes of this line, and is a descendant of Robert Cobbs, of Henrico, a brother of John and Thomas Cobbs of Goochland. Bishop Cobbs, though like the Chancellor retained the final "s", was a descendant of John of Goochland, brother of Robert."
There is a John who was a son of Thomas Cobbs. He dropped the "s" on the end. He became the father of Thomas Willis Cobb, of GA. John, one of the three mentioned as heads of distinct lines above, had a son John who came to GA and had Edmund, Samuel and John. I'm not sure about a Charles. I looked through it quickly and did not see one, but I may have missed it. I'll be glad to send scans to anyone who is interested in this paper. I don't know who wrote it right now.
