Hello Fellow Researchers. Here are some links regarding the vestrymen at Bruton Church and it's members. Our Ancestors (COBBS, COBB, WHITE, THORPE, BEALE, PINKETT/PINKETHMAN, AND BRADSHAW) and their collateral families were also vestrymen at Bruton Church. I hope that these links for Bruton Church might be of some help. I'll post others as I find them.
I hope these help.
I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Happy Researching.
Peace and blessings.

Hello Sharon. I am sorry that I am a bit slow in relying back. Dad has
been in the hospital since last Friday with pneumonia and I just got back
from helping him get relocated and resituated back in the nursing home. The
first few days were a bit scary, but he is much stronger today. I've been
with him all day today and was there most of yesterday... back and forth.
Again Sharon, I am not directly related to Fleming COBBS, but we are
related. I am providing for your convenience, the referenced link and
information that we found through our research on Fleming COBBS and his
mother - Parthenia Ann "Threna" CARTER. Do you know anything about your
Leroy Carter and his wife Ellen BRADSHAW? I'll be glad to check our
research. If you can't, please consider sending us your direct surnames
separated between your grandparents and also list separately any collateral
surnames that you may have. This will help give us a clue to who married
who in your family and see how it may connect with what we have. We are
working together with several wonderful BEACH, BRADSHAW, ROBINSON, WEST,
and COBBS-COBB researchers who are also trying to organize and make sense of
everything that we have.
We came across America (BEACH) COBBS while researching James and Sarah and
their family. I was fascinated by her name - America. Fran remembered
seeing her in her Beach research and I remembered her from my COBBS-COBB
research. It was a wonderful surprise to see that it was the same person.
Wow... what a find, even though we weren't directly related, it was still
neat. And, that is why we posted our find... because we remembered seeing
queries about Fleming COBBS and queries about America BEACH. We knew that
the BEACH and the COBBS-COBB researchers needed to meet each other and learn
about the other side of the family. Isn't this why we all come to these
message boards? I come to share what I have, in hopes that some one will
share what they have that will fill in my gaps and hopefully what I have
will fill in theirs. It is these very clues that help us to focus better in
our research and help give us direction. My great-grandparents were great
friends, so much so, that all 4 of them dated each other a while before they
became the married couples that we know them as today. I had found an old
family note saying that Robert Lee COBB used to pick up Mary M. WEIR for
dates at the boarding school... that had puzzled me because Mary M. WEIR had
married John M. SMITH and Robert Lee COBB had married Rose Etta JACOBS. It
wasn't until many years later when I met some cousins on a trip out to
Little Rock AR, that I learned the whole story. Before then, all that I had
known was that all 4 great-grandparents had been really great friends from
before the time that they had married. They even named some of the kids the
same. So, now I understand why Robert Lee and Mary dated a few times.
(smile) The reason why I mention this is to give you a background to why I
am looking for my ancestors and even more so, my living cousins. Before dad
shipped off to war... my great-grandmothers had asked my dad to promise them
to help put the family back together again... it saddened them because
everybody was so spread a part. They did not want another generation to go
by without knowing their family and their family history. Dad promised as
he went off to war in the Navy. And, back in 1988, dad had asked me to
promise him that I would continue to do the same. So, I promised and I have
been working on it ever since. And, I am truly blessed by having my
brothers and sisters help... it's a family affair. I love getting to meet
the cousins... even if it is only on the web. My nephews love hearing what
we find out because it gives them a connection when they come to whatever in
their school studies. As a kid in school, I can remember being fascinated
when we were learning about the Jamestown VA settlement, the Plymouth Bay
Colony and Thanksgiving Story, and on mom's side about her English ties to
the Lords of England, Maryland's history and her German and French ties. We
are even related to The Late Cardinal Dennis DOUGHERTY... I have Dennis
cousins everywhere. We even have some Native American (tribe unknown) and
Cherokee ancestors and some who grew cotton and some grew who tobacco for
one of the big tobacco companies. Now today, that isn't so cool... but back
the it was. It was neat to see the actual wagon wheel making thing-a-ma-jig
that was used to fix the wagon wheels of the wagon trains heading out West
passing through Brinkley AR... cousin Charley sent dad some of his dad's and
grandpa's blacksmithing stuff. And what a thrill to see the original pic
of Uncle Rufe (Rufus COBB), the Sheriff out in AR. And then, we have our
own version of the "FRENCH Connection". Mom's out of a Sarah Ann FRENCH and
her half-brother Thomas Henry FRENCH was one of the very few 7th Calvary
guys who survived Custer's Last Stand. These were some of the bits and
pieces that were written on old family notes. And, I can't forget about
that French-Canadian connection too. I am finding truth in all of our old
family stories and in what had been written on old notes stuck in boxes or
in an old book. It is such a neat feeling to have these little bits of
stories and little slips of paper come to life as we find our ancestors and
find them amongst the historical records strewn across the centuries. This
is my prayer for me and for you... that you find your family as well. Since
we each have a few pieces of that big family puzzle, we all need to get
together and work together and help each other put the entire family puzzle
together so that we all can all enjoy the completed masterpiece together.
Sorry, if you can't tell already... I'm the big sis.
Any way... so, getting back to the BEACH-BRADSHAW-ROBINSON-SCRUGGS and WEST
lines... my interest in this wonderful BEACH-BRADSHAW-ROBINSON-SCRUGGS and
WEST lines is because Sarah (BEACH) COBB WEST (1st husband is James COBB and
2nd husband is William WEST) is my - gr,gr,gr,gr-grandmother and my Sarah
appears to tie into this same family. It's a wonderful feeling to finally
connect to that part of the family that you were once missing.

Hi Subscribers,
Starting at 8 a.m. PST Friday, February 23, RootsWeb will begin a
planned
temporary downtime for maintenance of its servers and hosting process.
It
will limit this downtime as much as possible, and will return with
increased
performance and reliability for future growth.
In the meantime, please take time to visit RootsWeb.com's sister
sites --
Ancestry.com and FamilyHistory.com -- where you will find additional
tools
such as message boards, communities, and databases to help you in the
search
for your ancestors.
Thank you for your patience. Mike

Hi Everyone,
Thought this might be of interest and wanted to share it with you.
A Visual Expression of History. Produced for over a century, more than
660,000 Sanborn Maps chart the growth and development of more than 12,000
American towns and cities. Sanborn Maps are large-scale plans of a city or
town, drawn at a scale of 50 feet to an inch. They were created to assist
fire insurance companies as they assessed the risk associated with insuring
a particular property. The maps list street blocks and building numbers
including numbers in use at the time the map was made and previous numbers.
Also, if your public library or university library has subscribed, you may
be able to access these maps online. You can find out more about this
service by visiting Digital Sanborn Maps, 1867-1970
(http://sanborn.umi.com/).
Works well with Census Enumeration Maps. What the federal government has
called maps, is actually a misnomer. When we hear the word maps, we think
graphical images of the area of a town, county or state. In this case the
research aid is actually descriptions of the enumeration districts. The key
to working with any map and the enumeration district descriptions is to get
a map of the city that is as close to the time period as possible.
I hope this information helps. If you have problems or further questions
please let me know. :-) Thanks, Mike
