Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
you would probley be better doing just a Y DNA although the autosomal
DNA give you a larger possable spectrum of candidates and even
narrow down several lines the only way you will be able to get a
decent idea is run both a Y and M DNA sample if you can afford them

THere is also a site a www.rootsweb.com/~tnmcmin2
We've worked hard to make it an excellent site. Racism was not as
predominant as you might think. There were many mixed marriages. It's not
at all unusual to see most of the families in this area with Cherokee
heritage. The land was a different matter.

You could try the McMinn county section of US Gen Web:

I doubt there is any Cherokee in the family as racism was rampant at
that time (not to mention the Indian wars), but if you know of a
living descendant you could get an autosomal DNA test:

Just a heads-up that Ancestry is now promoting their autosomal DNA
test for both men and women on their main DNA web page
(http://ldna.ancestry.com/), but the COBB DNA project at both Ancestry
and FT DNA use strictly Y chromosomal DNA.
If you're ordering a test, please use the following link, as the tests
are not compatible whatsoever:

We are searching for a possible marriage between Dison Isiah Raper and Adaline unknown ...probably either Cobb or Standridge. Marriage would have taken place likely in Pickins SC in the vicinity of 1840-1850. Possibly in Cherokee Co., NC

Gary, are you still in the UK? If so, please consider participating in
the Cobb DNA project, if you have not done so already. We really need
folks from ye Olde Country!
