King. This may get you started on your Cobb research. I'm very interested in the descendants of John Cobb and Nancy Briggs as we are descendants of Augustine Cobb and I have been working on that line for years and it is a tough nut. Any info you can share would be appreciated. I also have info on Nancy Briggs' Ancestors if you're interested. Cliff Cobb

Wonderful! I found the email addresses of David and Candy on another post and have sent messages to them. I remember them very well from when we were children, but have had no contact with them in many years. I want to look over all my new information and then I would very much like to call you.
This is exciting!

Hi Linda!
Of course I will add you to my tree. After all you are family. I am so glad to hear from you. I have also been in contact with Viola's kids, David Leinfelder and Candy Gilman's son Michael. Not sure if you have contact with them. But they are surprised just as you. You may call me anytime at (956) 961-0420 to chat about the tree and some family history.

Hello, Johann!
How many s.f. did you want, and were you interested in the front or the back suite?
We have not yet received word back from the banker, but I showed the property to another broker today who also has an investor debating putting in an offer.
I will let you know as soon as I get word.
Thanks, and have a good afternoon!
Lou

Wow! How exciting to find your post on Ancestry.com! My name is Linda Saenz Macdonald and my grandmother was Anna Cobb who was married to Michael W. Saenz. They had 8 children but one died in infancy. Michael left my grandmother when my father, the youngest of the children, was a young boy. My dad, George, was placed in an orphanage. Anna is actually listed as Cipriana on a US Census way back...I would have to check the year. She was born in Brownsville on September 16, 1887. Her parents were Samuel and Dolores Cobb. Sam was in law enforcement and was shot and killed while trying to arrest a man. His brother was also killed in the same shootout. At the time of the shooting the newspaper said Sam had 7 children. In my records I have Juana (1885), Cipriana (1887), Sam (1889), Dolores (1890), Carmel (1892) and two unknown names. I have been seeking information on Michael for some time. As he left my grandmother, my dad and his sibilings would not talk about him. I have one phot!
o somewhere that is supposed to be of him...it is a snapshot taken somewhere with another person. I will try to find it. I never knew that Michael remarried 3 times. Do you have any photos of him? I guess I haven't helped with information on Michael, but it is wonderful to know that we share an ancestor. Linda Macdonald linlorm(a)aol.com

My great great grandfather was also William Speight from Greene County, I don't know his dates but I was told he died in the Civil War so he is probably not the same one but maybe a descendant. Do you have any other information on William Speight or his descendants?

About 20 years ago, my uncle gave me a will from the 1800's that belonged to William Speight, in it he discussed his plantation and slaves. This was found in an old house in Snow Hill. If I can find this, I will share it with you. I never could find any connection to anyone in the will with my family.

A man could farm for himself without owning land. If he was a share cropper I don't believe I've ever seen that listed as an occupation.. Also, any family that moved every 10 yrs and the head of family was a farmer most likely did NOT own land...

mcobb472,
That is awesome!
Thanks for the info!
So - it is a possiblity that after 1907 and prior to 1917 that Sam Cobb owned property..
I sure wish Oklahoma's vital records for the early years were available online or without having to go through hoops.. I'd order the birth/death certs for all my people but, alas, I can't do that..
I just hope to come across someone researching the same family ties as me with info that I've not found yet.. not to mention someone willing to share their's.
Thank you again,
Sara

I am in a unique position to offer some help here. (1) The National Archives Depository for all records relating to the old Indian Territory (Oklahoma) is just across town. I spent 15 years in that study room and was on an almost first-name basis with the staff. (2) My wife's family is from Sallisaw, Oklahoma.
So here goes ---
Prior to statehood in 1907, all land located in the various tribal nations belonged to the tribe. Even an individual indian could not own land. Non-indians rented their land from the tribal government.
In this case, Sallisaw was located in the old Cherokee Nation. After statehood, it became the seat of Sequoyah County.
After 1907 statehood, of course, land could be owned. Indian and non-Indian could either own or rent their land.

Does anyone know how to find property records for Oklahoma?
If Sam Cobb was a Farmer for Himself then that'd mean he would have owned land, right?
Sallisaw is only 65 miles from Winslow, AR - Winslow is in Washington County.. Which borders Crawford County.
Might be an interesting avenue to explore?!
