After you get started, we can help find you some male-line descendants to participate in the Cobb DNA project. That can get you back many, many generations in one fell swoop.

I took a quick look at ancestry.com and saw the following men in the US Federal Census:
1900 Franklin, GA; born ?
1930 Jessamine, KY; born 1916
Do either (or both) look right?
Also, have you seen the Cobb & Cobbs website yet?
freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cobb/
Lots of good stuff there to browse.

My great grandfather died in the early 70's maybe 1972. My great aunt said he had no brothers or sisters. He never communicated with any of his family. And there is no history that was spoke of to my knowledge.I just started researching today and your post got my attention when you said he had a brother named Emanuel because he named one of his sons Emanuel.

Please check on Asa Cobb b. 1701 possibly in Cornwall.
He is known as Asa I, had sons Asa II, Howell b. 1725, Lovell b. 1727, Ebenezer b. 1729. No name of wife.
Asa II married Mary Finch- had sons Zipron b. 1748, Asa III b. 1750, Mary b. 1751, Joseph b. 1754, Miriam b. 1764 and probably others.
I am interested in Joseph who married Abigail Holloway Stevens (Stephens) and his son Usual b.1794 who married Sarah Jane (Sally) Phelps.
Thanks, Dorothy
I find another set of Asa Cobbs reported in another family history. Need to check out if there were two sets of Asa families or someone made some big mistakes.

Thanks for the coordinates. My husband Don has been busy locating the places on Google Earth and comparing them to where we were when we were there. So close. Only makes us want to come more. We will watch the weather and the obligations we have. Family dictates to to be near Milwaukee, WI April 7-10 and in Norman, OK May 5-11.
I would appreciate anything you could send ddhyde(a)mwt.net.

Dorothy,
Eliphalet Stephens could not write his signed his name in the rev. war pension records with an X. The records have the spelling Stephens not Stevens and from that point forward all his children spelled the name Stephens. There is another Stevens family in this area and I tracked that line back over 200 years but have not been able to make the connection on that line. There is a lot of Holloway Stephens's that carries Elsie surer name so it would not be lost. The first surveyor of Wayne County was Elsie's Grandson Holloway Stephens III he was also the captain of the PA 179th Co. D in the Civil War and the representative from Wayne County.
