Perhaps they are taking the Benjamin name from Rachel Cobbs death cert which does say father B. Black. Also her possible sister Esther or Hester Black Thompson had descendents who filled out Eastern Cherokee Applications saying they were descended from a Cherokee Indian person.

You can check what I have on my family tree "Bonfield, Cook et al". The common ancester for our generation Bonfield/ Hemstreet is Thomas P. Bonfield, 1827 - 1913. John Hemstreet, DOB 1837, is the Hemstreet of the same generation as Thomas P. Bonfield. These men were in Ohio at that time.

Cliff,
Thanks for the data on this family, it fills gaps that I had and connects Reuben Cobb to the family line. Now to continue whether his grandfather Stephen Cobb was one and same as one being in a Taunton line and if had a second life. Haven't heard more from Robert Cobb on that line.
One note of interest regards the last child Alvin Cobb.
You have him marrying the same woman that married his brother Stephen Cobb. Alvin Cobb's marriage has her 20 years older than him. Also his mother Rebecca may have been born no later than 1753-1756 since first child born in 1774. If Alvin Cobb was born 1809 (14 years after previous child) his mother would have been over 50 years old (not likely). Was his birth actually before 1800 and marriage to a different Robbins.
I will look at verifying this marriage separately but I hope it was a slip in your records and there is more to add.
Thanks,
Paul Cobb
