Catherine Mae Cook was my grandmother. Although I have a pretty extensive amount of information about our family (Bonfield), I don't have much info about the Cooks. Just a possible father (Charlie W.) and grandfather (Charles H.) Also a little about Cobb, Hemstreet and Hannah.
It sounds like we may be related. My uncle Wes had a son named Charles..

Message Board Post:
Cliff,
I too believe they are all in the same family except Simeon Cobb Sr.(in the same family) did not die there. Much to examine for this issue regarding Simeon Cobb of Taunton.
Simeon Cobb (Sr.) had 6 sons; he died bef 14 Jan 1763 as his son Simeon was apptd. adm. of his estate on that date. He was living bet. 1760 - 1761 as he bought land in Norton, MA purchased from his siblings (also land in Block Island (RI) was purchased about same time (?) or before 1762 (?)). His last child with Zipporah Allen was in 1752 in Berkley, Bristol Co., MA (she was the youngest daughter and named in her father's estate of 22 Oct. 1765 as third daughter).
His son Simeon Cobb (aka Simeon Cobb of Norton) was mentioned in his father's estate of 22 Oct. 1765 as his first son (eldest living, Ephraim being deceased). He died in Westmoreland, NH either Oct. 10 or 20, 1815 and is buried there. Thus he was not one to die in that war. Further, he married and had 6 children (known) between 1765 and 1782.
Sherebiah Cobb married Charity Hall, dau. of Jacob & Hannah ( ) Hall; (probably married 1762-1763) and had four children as found recorded; may have been more (7 year gap between second and third child found). He died 3 Jul 1811 in Hardwick, Worcester Co., MA. Note Rev. Wood's book of records of deaths in Middleboro, MA families has his death listed among Gershom Cobb & others of Barnstable families in Hardwick. A deed dated 5 Apr. 1777 places Sherebiah Cobb and his wife Charity and family in Attleboro, Bristol Co., MA for farm and 93.5 acres sold to Nathaniel Round of Rehoboth. Afterward they are in Hardwick, MA. He He was mentioned in his father's estate of 22 Oct. 1765 as his second son (Ephraim being deceased).
Ephraim Cobb, the first son, was deceased and not mentioned in his father's estate of 22 Oct. 1765, moving his brothers up in the order of those sons living at the time of the will.
Their brother Samuel Cobb died bef 16 Feb 1763 as his brother Simeon Cobb was apptd. adm. of the estate on that date. He was also not mentioned in his father's estate of 22 Oct. 1765, being deceased.
Their brother Daniel Cobb who married Hannah Hodges has been previously docu, mented here.
Their brother David Cobb, b. 5 Mar 1745/46 in Berkley, Bristol Co., MA, was known living in 1790 in Windham, Windham Co., VT but nothing known later.

Paul Cobb,

While doing so research on Sherebiah Cobb's Line, I came across the fact that he served the Mass Militia in the Lake George Campaign during the French-Indian War. Further checking found him participating in the "Bloody Scout Morning" Sep.8,1755, under the comand of LT. Burt, Major James House and Col.Ephraim Williams. Col.Williams marched 800 Militia and 200 Mohawks under the leadership of King Hendrick in to an ambush by the French, Canadians and their allied Indians. Sherebiah Cobb survived, Col.Williams, King Hendrick didn't as well as 200 others. When checking the list of dead, wounded and missing. I came across the names of LT.Simeon Cobb, his "son" Ephraim Cobb and LT.Burt. The red flag came up, so I did some more research and found a document filed after the battle by Lt.Col.Seth Pomeroy, who with Col. Whiting assumed command after Col. William's death (Shot in the Head). Pomeroy with abt. a hundred or so Militia fought a rear guard action that allowed the the rest t!
o escape back to Gen. Johnson. So, Pomeroy's summary of the dead and wounded would probably be one of the more accurate accounts. Now comes my problem. According to my records, Sherebiah b.1739, was the 3rd.born son of Simeon Cobb and Zipporah Allen, the 1st. b.Mar.21,1734 was an Ephraim, 2nd.b.1736, was Simeon Jr.. I had some success following the children of Simeon and Zipporah but had always come up blank on Ephraim. This research looked like a breakthrough in finding out what happened to Ephraim. But.. I also had Simeon Sr. in my files as dying 1763 in Taunton, not Lake George,NY. Could it be that there was another Simeon Cobb with a son Ephraim who served with the same Company as Sherebiah. I kinda, sorta doubt it. So was Simeon's(Mar. to Zipporah) death Sep.8,1755 or 1763? Was Pomeroy and at least 2 others who reported casualties wrong? The next problem I ran into was that there are a whole bunch of Tree postings on-line that atribute Ephraim Cobb, rightly as being ki!
lled at Lake George but they state he was the son of John Cobb and Mar
y Conant of The "Barnstable Cobbs". I can't ignore their research but,#1. According to the records leading up to the mustering of a Militia for the Crown Point, Lake George Campaign, no-one was to be enlisted under the age of 18yrs. John and Mary Conant Cobb did indeed have a son Ephraim. He was born in 1841, which would have made him around 14yrs.old at the time of the Expediton, always possible that he lied about his age. But, Simeon's son Ephraim would have been 21yrs.old. Seem more likely? #2. The casualty report didn't give the hometowns of the killed, wounded, but by name inference, it seems that those with Simeon, Ephraim, and Sherebiah, i.e. LT. Burt, Drake, Williams, etc., Taunton Familiar names? Another interesting find was in another company, commanded by Richard Godfrey was a Benjamin Cobb. Does anyone have some insight on this that may resolve the conflicting research. Corrections, Input, or Comments would be appreciated. Cliff Cobb

Cliff, if these were ancestors of yours, I would strongly recommend
that you participate in the Cobb DNA project. More information can be
found at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~cobb/
The name Benjamin was commonly used in the line of Joseph Cobb of Isle
of Wight, Virginia and his descendants. The thing is that DNA can
quickly establish relationships and heritage where there is no paper
trail.
Here is a record that I have found that I believe is Joseph baptizing
his son Benjamin back in London:

Angie, with all the Cobb postings out there this one just came to me. I am trying to fit time frame to match my dates. My grandmother and brother were given up and adopted. At time they were given up no mention of another sibling was made known. My grandmother was born Elizabeth Angela Cobb, born Sept 19 1886. Brother Judson Lee Cobb born Aug 4 1888 and is said he died at the age of 2 year old in the orphanage in Chattanooga where the were placed. Thanks for the reply. I have one correction that I can do nothing at the census about, but the name of one of the children instead of Irma is Ima Evelyn Cobb, married to L> H> Walker. Seeing as the family did not talk much about the family, it causes a lot of confusion at times. Thanks again for quick reply.

Actually, you have the wrong middle initial. His full name was George Acton Cobb. He and wife Martha Annie are buried in the New Hope Cemetery at Hampton in Calhoun County, Arkansas. His dates are born 08 Sep 1882, died 29 March 1934. Her dates are born 12 October 1889, and died 21 October 1958. There are a number of Cobbs buried in this cemetery, but these are the only ones I could identify.
One source claims his father was Peter Acton Cobb, but I cannot confirm this. It would be worth your while to order a copy of his death certificate to settle the question. See below ---

Jesse Cobb descends from the immigrant Ambrose Cobb/s to his son Robert, to his son Ambrose, to his son Thomas and 3 more generations of Thomas Cobbs. Nancy Ann Reese/Reece/Rice
did not have "Mandy" as part of her name. Her son Marion
Rice Cobb's death cert lists her as Mandy Reese but Marion's family Bible records show she was Nancy Reese and nowhere lists her as Mandy. The name originally came from Marion's death cert but after locating his direct descendants I was able to correct this.

And, as you said, much of it has been disproved since. I was only trying to correct the part that appeared to say that the quote came from Philip Cobb's book, which it could not have.
Regarding the statement that "Henry was born in 1596 in the southeast part of the County of Kent, England," much has been written about Henry's origins that is unproven, and some of it demonstrably false. Making assertions as if they were proven when they are not does not help clear up the confusion.

I do not have any physical evidence to show where Henry was born...but from a list of the Mayflower passengers there was no Cobb listed on that boat..
