I am a descendant of the Asa Cobb II family that went to PA. through his son Joseph and Abigail Holloway Stevens. Since I am female, I can't do a DNA for the Cobb's, but I have been in contact with a male Cobb who is a cousin.

Asa Cobb II married Mary Finch, a Quaker lady. They live for awhile at Quaker Hill, NY. Among his children were Asa III and Joseph who married Stevens sisters. Joseph's (and Abigail Holloway Stevens) son Usual was born about1792 at Beekman's Patent.

I also am decended from Asa I and down through 4 other Asa's. I also am in the DNA project. I have also sent requests in the past asking if anyone has an actual paper trail showing a link to the Mayflower through Stevens. If you have one, I would really like to have a copy. I would like to see anything on Asa II you got from Quaker Hill.
Thanks,

We are indeed related. Joseph Cobb (Son of Asa II) and Abigail Holloway Stevens (sister of Sarah) are my 4 gr grandparents. Their son Usual is my 3 gr grandparent. We were at Mt Cobb a couple of years ago, but did not find any graves of my ancestors even though some should be there. Do you have any info on Asa I or II. We did find some putting them in Quaker Hill, NY before PA.
Apparently the Cobb boys were early in the settlement of Mt Cobb area. Do you also live near there? The repeat names are really confusing- really need to use birth date with the name. That's why I can not find the real wife of Usual b. abt 1792 at Beekman Patent.
You may contact me at ddhyde(a)mwt.net if you wish. Dorothy

I too am looking for more info on Asa I,who was a whaling Captain). I have some info on Asa II and on his son Joseph who is an ancestor of mine. Joseph and his brother Asa III married Stevens sisters and thus connect back to the Mayflower. Found info on Asa II at Quaker Hill, NY. (We traveled to NY a couple of years ago. Think there is more there to find. Do you want info on these Cobbs? Who is/are your ancestor/s?
Please let me know if you find more on Asa I.

I, too, have been touched by this story. My mother was a registered nurse,
and the stories sound so similar. She, too, died at age 94, a good
Samaritan if ever there was one. She could tell you every person she ever
cared for. Louise Bryant Brady, 1907-2001.
Thanks for sharing all this.

Hi Katie: I was blown away by your e-mail and pictures.
It's me and my Gaga! No, it is not the front of my house. I am thinking maybe the hospital? My mom told me that I would cry for Gaga when she brought me home. It may be that my mom may have brought me back to the hospital for a visit because I do look older than 15 months. Thank you so
very much for finding me. I wish I could have corresponded with her and sent her updated pictures before her death. My husband Paul & I have been married 53 years with 4 child-
ren & 6 grandchildren. Thank you. You made my day! Nayon

It's so nice to hear from you. Every time I look through my grandmother's photo albums I see the pictures of you. My grandma's name was Eleanor MacGregor at the time she would have been caring for you. She was a pediatric nurse all of her life. My grandma had very illegible handwriting but there is a note on the back of one of the pictures. It states that the little girl in the picture is Nayon Cobb and that my grandma is perhaps going to your house??? Maybe I'm reading that wrong. I have attached scans of the 4 pictures she had of you. Let me know if you are unable to see them. How exciting to hear from you! My grandma would be so thrilled to know that I was able to find you. She died in 2006 at the age of 94. She absolutely loved children and loved to be a nurse.

Hi. My name is Nayon Cobb Clarke. When I was fifteen months old I had a burst appendix. I was in a hospital in New York. We lived in Mamaronek. I think the name of the hospital was Grasslands. In those days small children had to stay in the hospital for a long time. A nurse, whom I called "Gaga" became my surrogate nother. I have one picture of her and I together. I would love to hear from you and see some of those pictures. I am now 75 years old.

It could be a cousin, not last name of Cobb though. Most of the family ended up in Massachusetts at one time or another and this photo very well could be of my grandfather. He still has 3 living children, 2 in Massachusetts, the oldest being 101 years old. 2 others who lived in MA, my mother included, have subsequently died since your post. I would definitely be interested in it if Jon is not. I have 2 photos of Ben at different ages in a Military-type uniform. We also have limited photos though because my grandparents were divorced and there was not a lot of contact with my Grandfather for many years.
No hurry. Enjoy your vacation.

Hi, Bonnie,
What a coincidence! I just got a message a few days ago from Jon C. (Are you cousins?) Here's a copy of what I told him:
Hello, Jon,
I must admit I didn't remember this posting; it was so long ago. I'm on vacation right now, and I don't have access to all of my genealogy materials, so I'll see if the following makes sense.
One of my genealogy-related pastimes is reuniting lost treasures with living descendants. If this is the right case, I bought a photo on Ebay.com of a young man wearing what looked to be some sort of military uniform. It was supposed to be his high school graduation picture taken in Portland, ME. I think it was likely an ROTC (if that existed back then) or perhaps a band uniform. It seems to me it was taken about 1900 or so, plus or minus a decade. There is no insignia visible on the photo (which is black and white).
After doing some research, I located some living descendants in, I think, Massachusetts. I wrote a letter (perhaps two?) offering to give the photo to a living family member, but I never received a response.
I don't like to pester anyone, especially senior citizens, because I wouldn't want elderly folks to worry that they were being targeted for a scam. My letter would have asked only that a donation be made (covering just my costs) to the recipient's organization of choice, such as a local library, historical or genealogy society. Plus, I would never "check up" on this. It's my own little honor system.
If you have a way of checking out this story, let me know. Did any of Benjamin Cobb's children wind up in Massachusetts? Unfortunately, the details are on my computer at home. I'll be back in California about the second week of August.
If it turns out that this is a picture of your grandfather, I'd love for you to have it back in the family. I'd really HATE to see it wind up on Ebay again! It makes me sad to see old photos in antique stores and yard sales. Maybe it's because my own family has so few mementos and pictures.
Anyway, thanks for getting in touch.
