John was son of Ambrose Cobbs and Sarah unknown... they had 13 children. Anna was the daughter that married Jeremiah Whitmire..
I suggest you google CobbandCobbs and go to the website maintained by Michael R. Cobb.... and check your data... Mike is an exceptional researcher and this is his line.

Thanks! I don't believe them to be the same branch of the family but I have a feeling Frederick E. Cobb was somehow related to George Arthur Cobb and your family. Cousins perhaps? I have been unable to track down the parents of George and I don't know if spending the money on his Birth Certificate will do me any good.

My great uncle was Arthur Frederick Cobb who lived and worked as a Sheep Farmer in the Falklands. I looked for your gt grandfather Hubert V Cobb, to see if there was a connection, but only found Horace Victor Cobb or his brother Hubert William Cobb. Both born in Barham Suffolk - Horace abt 1892 and Hubert abt 1906. There were other siblings Harry b 1883 in Nettlestead Suffolk, Ernest Walter b 1901 and Ethel Agnes 1903 both born Barnam Suffolk. Their parents were Harry Cobb b Habrough Nofolk and Helen Augusta James b Hedenham Norfolk who married Q4 1881 Bosmere Suffolk. In both the 1901 and 1911 census the family were in Barham where both father Harry and son Harry are shown as "Horseman on farm", the others being at school. If this is your family, then I will see if I can find a link. The Managing Director of the Falkland Islands Company was Frederick Cobb (my Arthur's father)so it seems a bit too much of a coincidence for there not to be some family connection.

I'm looking for information on a William Cobb b.Mar.29,1777, maybe Windham Co.,VT.. About 1805, In Windham, he married Betsey Gage b.Feb.24,1786, Hubbardston,Worcester,MA., the daughter of Asa Gage and Mary Polly Bolton. On July 27,1806, William and Betsey had a son William Jr. born. I believe on Jun.26,1808, they had a daughter Eliza born, both Windham Co., probably Jamaica. On Jan.5,1818, William Sr. died. Betsey then married Nathan Howard b.Feb.24,1771. Betsey and Nathan had dau. Jane Howard b.1819, and son Subbinus Howard b.May 10,1824, both Jamaica. An 1820 Census shows Nathan with a wife, a boy and two girls that would fit William Jr., Eliza and Jane. On Nov. 2, 1829, in Jamaica, Eliza married Asa Livermore b.Dec.7,1802, Jamaica, the son of Ezra Livermore and Milley Gage. On Nov.5, 1831, in Windham Co., William Jr. married Mary Ann Botsford b.Sep.11,1811, in Sandgate, Bennington, VT., the daughter of Joseph Botsford and Anna Maria Hard. Around Sep. 1835 via the Erie C!
anal. Asa and Mary Polly Gage, Nathan and Betsey Howard, Asa and Eliza Livermore, William and Mary Ann Cobb resettled in Smith Mills the Town of Hanover, Chautauqua Co.,NY, possibly with some other Gages, Howards and Livermores. Asa Gage, a blacksmith, died Jan.26,1837, Hanover. By 1850 his Widow Mary Polly was living with William and Mary Ann Cobb next to Nathan and Betsey Howard and abt. a couple of farms away from Asa and Eliza Livermore. Of note in the 1850 Census is the fact that Asa and Eliza had a J. Cobb 16yrs. old staying with them. It just so happens that William and Mary Ann Cobb's oldest son, named Josiah B. was also 16yrs. at the time (b.Jan.1834). Apparently the Cobbs, Gages, Howards and Livermores were quite friendly in Vermont. Aurelius Chapin Howard married Hannah Eunice Cobb, daughter of Daniel and Lucy Stevens Cobb. A son Roswell Lyman of Daniel and Lucy Cobb married an Ellen Sophie Howard. Of note is that the name Roswell is not usually associated with !
The Cobb's, but Nathan Howard had a brother Roswell, married to Eunice
Bolton Gage, sister to Betsey, also living in Jamaica. Also of note, is that Betsey Gage-Cobb-Howard's brother, Jones Gage named one of his sons Simeon Cobb Gage. the afore mentioned Daniel Cobb had a brother Simeon Cobb. Daniel and Simeon's parents Daniel Cobb Sr. and Hannah Hodges according to records had 8 Children: Hannah b.abt.1764,Bristol,Ma., William b.abt.1766,Bristol, David b.abt.1768,Bristol, Pliny b.abt.1774, Bristol, Lyman b.abt 1774, Bristol, Daniel b.Apr.27,1776, Cheshire,NH, Simeon b.abt.1778, Taunton, Samuel b.abt 1780, NH. Could it be that the William I've been researching is the son of Daniel and Hannah Cobb and the birth date is wrong? Or is this William the son of another Cobb who was living in Windham county? Any help identifying this William (1777-1813) and who his parents were would be appreciated. It seems like I've hit the wall. There are living male descendants of this William who could submit a "Y"DNA sample, but all it would probably show is that!
they are indeed from "The Taunton Cobbs", not how they descended from them. Any ideas, Cliff Cobb

My husband is related to a Charlie Cobb born 1932. Charlie's brother Robert Olen Cobb is Charlie's brother. I know Charlie died in the mid 2000's but not sure of the date. Some other brothers and sisters of Charlie are Mary Jeannette, Alonzo T. and Clarence. If you think my Charlie is the same as your Charles Cobb I would definately like to hear more from you as I am at a standstill with the Cobb family tree.

I wish you luck.
Here is a suggestion. About 5 years ago, I decided to repost every query I
had on every possible site (state, county, surname, city) since it had been
about 5 years previous that I had posted my original query to my brick wall.
I decided that those questions had been pushed to the back of the line, by
that time, and that perhaps the many new genealogists wouldn't know how to
access older records.
It worked for one query. I immediately heard from a woman who saw my most
recent post, and was able to answer, breaking down another wall for me.
So try it; nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Best wishes and good hunting. Mildred

You would be in error on thinking Augustine was the son of a Henry Cobb. Dr. Robert Cobb has recently spent months in England with a professional English Genealogist, and has been able to establish lineage back to the early 1200's. But in deference to his right to publish his findings, I hesitate to ca!
rry the line back any farther at this point. I feel you might have become a victim to the "Old Hoax" that we Taunton or Blacksmith Cobbs descend or are somehow linked to Henry "The Elder" or Barnstable Cobbs. DNA has proved conclusively what the Taunton Cobb Researchers have said all along, that we are a separate family who happens to have the surname "Cobb". If the "Barnstable Cobbs" or the "Taunton Cobbs" ever did share a common ancestor he would have been born 75,000-100,000yrs. ago. Cliff Cobb
