Artemisia Cook and Drury Hawkins are my 3rd great grandparents through their
daughter, Susan Hawkins who married Calvin Clemmons Cobb (I have him listed
as Clemmons Calvin, need to recheck my source) their daughter Josephine
Artemisia Cook who married Henry Clay Holton. Their son, Alfred Harrison
Holton is my grandfather, my mother Agnes Holton. I have 12 children listed
for Drury and Artemisia (Cook) Hawkins but no Caroline. I do have a
Catherine listed, born Oct 1846, Is this the same person? I have some
information passed on to me from a Hawkins researcher back to a William
Hawkins (1587 - Tavistock, Devon, England, but I have not verified it. My
Cobb information only goes to C C Cobbs' father, James W. Cobb but I do have
a good bit of Cobb information descending from Calvin and Susan Hawkins. I
would appreciate any help you can give me on this family and I am happy to
share what I have.

I was posting a reply and apparently hit enter by mistake -- my apologies if this is a duplicate.
Thanks for your reply and information -- I do not think that Amasa Cobb and George W. Cobb were brothers.
The following is from "The History of Iowa County, WI, 1881"
now available, thanks to the WI Historical Society, at http://content.wisconsinhistory.org/u?/wch,10512:
GEORGE W. COBB General Manager of the Mineral Point R. R.; is a native of Cazenovia, Madison Co., N. Y., and is a son of Whitman and Eunice Cobb ; his parents came West to Indiana in 1833 and located near La Porte; when 13 years of age, George entered a store in La Porte, and remained there until 1840, when he was offered a position in Chicago, in the store of Paine & Norton, then prominent merchants in that city; in 1842, he brought a large stock of goods to Galena, and, in the fall of 1843, he was induced to come to Mineral Point, and located here and engaged iu mercantile business; he afterward was engaged in the grocery and provision trade, and, for many years, transacted a large and extensive business; he was familiar with almost everyone in this and adjoining counties, and traded in everything; he used to ship wheat to Galena by wagons, before the railroads were built. In 1855, he was induced to become connected with the management of the Mineral Point R. R., which was!
then building, but was not completed; for over a quarter of a century he has had the management of this road; there are very few men in this Scate or in the Northwest, who are so familiar with the railroad and commercial interests of this Western country , as Mr. Cobb. He has been engaged in active business life over forty-five years; when he began life he had nothing, and his success is owing to his own individuality and attention to business. Mr. Cobb is prominently identified with the Masonic fraternity, and has been connected with the order since boyhood; is a member of the Chapter, Royal Arch Masons and Commandery. Mr. Cobb was united in marriage, March 18, 1845, to Miss Laura A. Pulford, a native of Onondaga Co., N. Y., and daughter of Dr. Schuyler Pulford ; they have six children-Clara (now Mrs. C. Spensley), Hattie (now Mrs. Wilcox), Albert W. (connected with the railroad), Eunice, John P. and Guy P.
I will give you access to the Philadelphia Stone Moffett Suddeth Cobb family tree I have on Ancestry and you can see the information I have on Amasa Cobb. Unfortunately, the info about his ancestors is pretty skimpy.
Early on in my research, I came across a reference that when Amasa originally came to the Lead Region (he walked from Terre Haute, IN to southwest WI -- the WI Hist. Soc. has his pencil written diary of the journey) he was headed for his brother, Thomas, in Fairplay, WI -- I haven't been able to find my way back to the reference, and am searching.
FYI -- George W. Cobb's home in Mineral Point, WI is still standing. If you are particularly interested in this branch of the family, I might be able to point you to more resources, not available online.

Thanks Paul for the info. That is probably her from Leicester, MA, but not
sure. The only thing I can find about her in Maine is her signature on a
couple of deeds with husband, Reuben Hussey, Jr. She signed as
relinquishment of her right of dower on land they were selling and she
signed it Assenath, but it could be either way. I have two deeds with her
signature this way; one in 1830 and one in 1836. I know that they had two
children, at least.
Betty,
Her name as given appears to be an alternate spelling of Asenath Cobb, as I
have a number by this name in the Barnstable line. However, only one fits
the time period but I have no verification of a marriage but here is a
likely spouse of the Reuben Hussey in your posting.
I have an Asenath Cobb, born 28 Mar 1793 in Leicester, Worcester Co., MA as
a daughter of Nathaniel Cobb and 2nd spouse Anna Knapp. This family is from
the Taunton (MA) line of the Cobb tree; through Richard Cobb, Samuel Cobb
and John Cobb of Swanage, Dorset, England and Taunton, Mass. (who had
married widow Jane (Godfrey) Woodward).
There may be another candidate for Reuben Hussey's spouse Asenath Cobb from
other parents, not known, but this is one possible person. Was there any
other record in Maine?
There was a Peter Cobb, b. 25 May 1780 in Falmouth, Cumberland Co., ME (of
the Barnstable line from Elder Henry Cobb) who married a Sally Hussey, b. in
Maine; however, no other details for her. No direct connection between that
Peter Cobb and an Asenath Cobb (of the Barnstable line) who was b. 7 Nov
1803 in Woodstock, Windsor Co., VT, who married a Rufus Kidder. No details
of a death for him but, even so, unlikely she would have married (secondly)
in Maine.
Perhaps another person can verify more on Asenath Cobb, born 28 Mar 1793 and
a marriage or other details to confirm this connection.
Regards,
Paul Cobb,

Does anyone on this list have any information on an Assenath Cobb? I do not
know who her parents are or any dates for her. I know that she married
Reuben Hussey, born 1796, in Waterville, Maine. His parents are Reuben
Hussey and Lydia Rowe. I have her signature on a deed with husband, Reuben.
Deed is dated November 11, 1836 in Kennebec County, Maine. They also lived
in Athens, Maine. I would like to find out who her parents are and when and
where she and Reuben died and are buried.
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Subject: William Cobb 1806-1869
I'm going to give some speculative thoughts on this William Cobb and some data that I have found. Please separate the two and maybe give a direction to go in this family's ancestry. I am quite sure this William is a descendant of The Taunton Line of Cobbs (Probably John). He does have living male descendants living in Indiana which could take a "Y" DNA test which would verify that they are indeed "Tauntons". But, as we have seen with past DNA results, they only confirm which Cobb Line they come from, not how they got there. It has been established that this William Cobb was born July 27,1806, Windham, VT. the son of William and Betsey Cobb. I found a Betsey Gage b. Feb.24, 1786, Hubbardstown, Ma., d.Feb.12,1850, Hanover, Chautauqua,NY., the dau. of Asa Gage and Mary Polly Bolton who also died in Hanover,NY.. In 1805, Betsey married a William Cobb b.Mar.29,1777, apparently, they had two children, a boy and a girl. William Cobb d.Jan.5,1813, (Prob. Jamaica, Windham,Vt.). Betsey then married a Nathan Howard b.Feb.4,1771. she had two more children, Jane Howard b.1819 and Subbinus Howard b.May 10,1824. Around 1835, A bunch of families from Windham County Vt. took a canal boat thence overland from Buffalo and settled in and around Smith Mills,Twn. Of Hanover, Chautauqua Co.,NY. In the mix of those Vermonters, most living next to each other, I found William Cobb and Mary Ann Botsford. By the 1850 Census Asa Gage had died (Jan.26,1837) and his widow Mary was living with William and Mary Ann Cobb, next door to Nathan and Betsey Howard. I don't believe it is too much of a stretch to speculate that This William Cobb was the grandson of Asa and Mary Gage, and the son of Betsey Cobb-Howard. Also in that neighborhood was an Asa Livermore b.Dec.7.1802, Jamaica, Son of Ezra and Milley Gage Livermore, and his wife, Eliza Cobb b.June 26,1808, Windham Co.,Vt. The 1850 Census shows Asa and Eliza Livermore have a 16 yr. old male "Works on Farm", J. Cobb, living with them. William and Betsey Cobb had a son Josiah, who was b.1834. William and Betsey Cobb and Asa and Eliza Livermore lived abt. 1/2 to 3/4 mile apart with Nathan and Betsey Cobb-Howard between them. I would guess that this Eliza Cobb-Livermore was William's sister, dau. of William and Betsey Gage-Cobb-Howard. Asa Livermore taught school for 3yrs. in Jamaica, married Eliza on Nov.2,1829, Jamaica. in 1869, they left Smith Mills for Westerville, Ohio where he was Justice of the Peace for many years. Add to the mix an Aurelius Chapin Howard b.Mar.27,1812, Townshend,Windham,Vt., who married a Hannah Eunice Cobb b.Oct.20,1819, Windham Co.,Vt. Hannah was a dau. of Daniel Cobb (1776-1842) and Lucy Stevens. Roswell Lyman Cobb b.Apr.8,1817, brother of Hannah, married Ellen Sophia Howard, sister of Aurelius. Roswell's name is also intriguing, it is a rather rarely used name in the Cobb Line, but Nathan Howard's brother was named Roswell. In a previous post I mentioned that Betsey Gage's next in line brother named a son Simeon Cobb Gage. Now A Daniel Cobb (1743-1825) and Hannah Hodges, father of Daniel Jr., also had sons Simeon b. 1778, and a William b.?. Could this William be the husband of Betsey Gage? If so his birth date of 1777, would place him between Daniel Jr. and Simeon. Thus one could surmise that this William is a descendant of the John Cobb Line of the "Taunton Cobbs". But no proof yet. Other hints or blind alleys, are that William and Mary Ann Botsford Cobb named their second born son Asa. Could this be after his grandfather Asa Gage, as Asa is not a common first name used in the "Taunton Cobbs". Also, they named another son Lyman. Could this be after William's possible Uncle Lyman, a son of Daniel and Hannah Cobb ? Could there be any death or burial records for a William Cobb (1777-1813) in Jamaica or Windham Co.,Vt.?
