Hello, I have a Bathsheba Cobb in my line, born around 1750 in Taunton, Mass. I wonder if anyone has any info on her and could enlighten me to her origins in the colonies. She seems to have lived about 100 years according to census data. She married Rufus Leonard, also of Taunton, around 1770. The union produced many children. Their daughter Hannah married a Chatfield.

I am in search of a D.B. Cobb born 1813 Alabama married to a Mary Born Alabama also 1813. I found them in a 1860 Holly Springs, Dallas County, Arkansas census. I am hoping they are the parents of a William Cobb born 1842 Alabama that married a Sarah Caroline Bradshaw. In this census there is also a John Cobb born 1839 Alabama and then the rest of the children were born in Arkansas which were Edith born 1847, Sophronia born 1850, Susan born 1853 and Ben 1855. The research I am doing is on William and Sarah's line which ended up later in Madison County, Arkansas and then on to Wagoneer, Oklahoma.
Is anyone researching this line?

Thanks. Per an excellent researcher of many families in Buckingham Co., VA (and surrounding areas), Agnes had a daughter named Susan A. S. Slaughter (b. about 1830; died before 1870). That is about all that I can add concerning Agnes and her husband.

Thank you very much for the clarification and additional information regarding Ann Hamner Cobbs' marriage to Baker Davidson. Since I don't have a death date for Ann, the newspaper article made me wonder if she had died and her sister Agnes had married a second time to Baker Davidson, sister Ann's widower.
This is what I do have about Agnes Cobbs and her husband:
Agnes Cobbs married Dr John Poindexter Slaughter 11 March 1820 in Bedford County, VA. He was born 27 March 1784 and died in August 1837. I don't have a birth date for Agnes but she was his 3rd wife (1= Martha (Patsy) Armistead and 2= Vera Kirkpatrick) so there was probably a fair difference in their ages.
Anne

That newspaper article was very "flawed." Agnes Cobbs, daughter of John Lewis Cobbs and Susannah Hamner, married Dr. John Slaughter. "Sukey" Davidson was Susan Elizabeth "Sukey" Davidson, and she was a daughter of Baker W. Davidson and Ann Hamner Cobbs. "Sukey" married William Lackland, and they had Thomas Cobbs Lackland and Nannie Lackland. Thomas Nelson Cobbs was a half-brother of Agnes Cobbs and Ann Hamner Cobbs....and a full brother of Amanda Cobbs (who married John J. Lackland). I see nothing whatsoever to indicate that Baker W. Davidson was a minister/reverend. Comments/questions?

Thanks, I agree. I "got off track" since, for whatever reason, it was Edmond and Sarah (Lewis) Cobbs who had a son named Waddy Cobbs. I show:
1) Edmond Cobbs married Sarah Lewis and one of their sons was named Waddy Cobbs (I can only assume that the name "Waddy" was chosen because the widow Mrs. Mary (Lewis) Cobbs' second husband was Waddy Thompson...unless you are aware of a different reason). These Thompsons "trace back" to the Robert Thompson "I" who was in New Kent Co., VA in the 1600s.
2) Samuel Cobbs married Mary Lewis, daughter of Colonel Robert Lewis. Mary later married Waddy Cobbs
3) John Cobbs married Mildred Lewis
Baker W. Davidson definitely married Ann Hamner Cobbs in Bedford Co., VA. Baker died right AFTER the great courthouse fire in Buckingham Co., VA, so his will is one of the first/oldest available wills at the courthouse. Ann Hamner Cobbs' half-sister Amanda lived with Baker W. Davidson and his wife Ann, and Amanda married John Lackland.
I show Agnes as the last child of John Lewis Cobbs and his first wife Susannah Hamner (John later married Judith Shelton Price...the mother of the above-reference Amanda Cobbs). I have never attempted to see who Agnes married. The only "Rev. Baker Davidson" of whom I am aware was Reverend Andrew Baker Davidson who was an uncle of Baker W. Davidson and who lived and preached in Rockbridge Co., VA (Andrew died there in 1861). I know nothing about the Rev. Baker Davidson that you mentioned, but I will see what I can find and post again. Was a date given for this marriage? Thanks.

The Lewis that married Waddy Thompson was not Sarah Lewis but rather Mary Lewis b. about 1732. Mary was the daughter of Robert Lewis of "Belvoir" and Jane Meriwether. Her first husband was Samuel Cobbs who died in 1758.
Sarah Lewis was the daughter of John Lewis and Sarah Shelton. I believe that her only marriage was to Edmund Cobbs. They were my g-g-g-g-grandparents.
You mention your connection to the Davidson line. There is a curious reference in a 1907 article in the genealogy column of the Richmond Times-Dispatch that states,"Agnes Cobbs, eighth child of John Lewis and Susan (Hamner) Cobbs, married Rev. Baker Davidson. Issue: Sucky Davidson who married William Lackland and had issue Nannie Lackland and Thomas Cobbs Lackland."
You wrote that it was Ann Hamner Cobbs that married Baker W Davidson. Is the above statement about Agnes simply in error?
Thanks for your information. - Anne
