Hi Tara. Did you manage to get in contact with your father? I'm the Australian woman he was seeing way back when. My daughter (your half sister) is now 13. You also have another half-sister living in Vancouver who is 18 now. Your dad's brothers are Jerry and Gary. Jerry lives in Texas (I think the town is Diana) and Gary lives somewhere near DC. Your grandma is Frankie Lee (Frankie isn't short for anything that I know of). She has remarried and is living in Northern California. Her last name is now Dodd. Your great grandmother was Choctaw, not Cherokee, and you should be able to get registered on their roles if you can contact Frankie. I used to have her phone number but have lost it. I believe I have her email address, but would rather not post it publicly.

It´s a different line, but the strange thing is both David and James married a Janet Hastie. We still haven´t found the connection to your line.

I have no record of Janet Hastie of Innerwick or James Herkes of Gladsmuir.
My g-grandfather, James Herkes, did marry twice. After the death of Ernestine in 1912, he married Anne Isabella Johnston in 1914. She was born in 1885 in Mordington, Berwickshire, and died in 1974. No children from this marriage. James worked for the Postal Service in Edinburgh.
After my gg-grandfather, David Herkes, died in 1886, Janet married David Laidlaw in 1890. He was born in Dalkeith. The Herkes men from David backwards were slaters.
How are you related to David and James?

Hi Eileen
At one time I did think so, but seemingly there was a David Herkes who married a Janet Hastie, and there is a James Herkes married to a Janet Hastie too. James Herkes was born 1809 in Gladsmuir, Janet was born in Innerwick 1811. Siblings up to date were Robert, Joseph, James and Jane Herkes all born in Stenton. ELN. Do you think there is a connection?
The David Herkes married to a Janet Hastie I don´t have information on.

Eileen I have a Janet Hastie and a James Herkes. However they were born 1811 Innerwick and 1809 Gladsmuir respectively.
I have D registratin 1945 of James Herkes who was married twice Cobb and Johnston. Death registratin shows that Janet may have married a Laidlaw after the death of James Herkes, Slater.
If you wish a copy e mail me a nspacinsky(a)cogeco.ca.
