I am descended from William H Cobb, b 1792 SC, I feel that he is descended from Henry the Elder, ONLY BECAUSE of the area and the names of male descendents. I find one Wm Cobb in Pendelton SC on the 1810 census in the right age group with a female , same age group, I am not sure if this is my Wm. My William is on the 1820 census, Lebonan, Wilson Co TN and his wife Catherine Jackson, they married abt a year before and she died about a year after. I am THINKING they may have had a daughter that was raised by Catherine's sister Phoebe and husband Hugh Curlin in TX. The spelling is Cob on the 1820 census and there is another Cob living a few doors down. Wm shows up again on the 1830 and 1840 census in Carroll Co Tn. aparently married again to Louisa LNU before 1830. The 1850 census finds him and family in Obion Tn. His son W H Cobb married Nancy J Edwards, daughter of Hugh Edwards and Judith (Hill Whitley) ??? W H and Nancy moved on to Dent Co Mo and other places in SE MO. Will!
iam and Nancy's son John was my great grandfather. The names of the male descendents were, William, Wiley, Jesse, John, Madison,Benjamin, Ruebin, George and Ozner. If this piece of info. fits into anyones puzzle please post...Thanks

I am looking for information on a Samuel Cobb (b. 1760-1770, probably in South Carolina). This Samuel lived in Tennessee at least in 1795 (when daughter Mary "Polly" Cobb was born). His other children born in Tennessee were: Rachael Cobb, b. 1797, Henry Cobb, 1799/1800, Sarah Cobb, b. 1801 and William Cobb, b. 1803. From there is appears he moved to Kentucky where daughter Rebecca Cobb was born in 1806, and then on to Orange County Indiana where son Asa Ara Cobb was b. 1809 and daughter Jemimah Cobb, b. 1811.
This Samuel has been a major brickwall for many of us researching this particular line (I have compared notes with descendants of Rachael, Henry, William and Jemima . . . we all have failed!) I know from my cousin's DNA testing, that we are descendants from the Henry the Elder of Barnstable line.
We believe this Samuel is possibly a great-great-grandson of Henry the Elder, great-grandson of Samuel Cobb (b. 1654 Barnstable), and grandson of Henry Cobb (b. 1687 Barnstable) and wife Jemima Morse. The latter Henry & Jemima Cobb migrated from Barnstable, MA to Caswell County, NC. Of their children (Elizabeth, Samuel, Henry, Noah, Mary, John and Asa ...the males were referred to as "the Cobb Brothers Five), one, Asa Cobb ended up in Tennessee and died in 1828 in Fentress, TN. We believe the naming pattern, and Asa's location in Tennessee may be our missing link.
If any of this sounds familiar or you have any leads for us, we would greatly appreciate!

I apologize for the long delay in responding to this thread- I have been watching it though, but I was away from home and unable to access my personal computer files--
I am the file manager for the Taunton Cobb line but I don't know why there have been problems contacting me.
I will be more than happy to include the missing Cobbs in the file- I can't believe the enormous amount of info on this thread alone! Please be assured that I will be updating my files with this, and the web manager will upload the appended file on his next update (not sure when that will be)
Until then, please feel free to contact me at ldbrud(a)gmail.com

I have (inherited from my father) true copies of the death certificates of Tisdale Cobb and Sally Pierce Cobb. Tisdale's is recorded at Records of Marriages, Births and Deaths. Vol. 1-A, page 40, Westminster, VT Town Clerk's Office:

Name and Surname of the Deceased: Tisdale Cobb

Place of Death: No. 9
Disease or cause of death: Heart Disease
Sex and Condition: Male
Occupation of Male over 15 years: Blacksmith
Place of Birth: Taunton, MASS
Name of Parents: Samuel & Sally Cobb
Sally
No. 10
Date of death: November 17,1868
Name and Surname of Deceased: Sally Cobb
Age: 87 years, 8 months
Place of Death: District No. 7
Disease or cause of death: Old Age

Place of Birth: (not given)
Names of Parents: John & Sally Pierce
This was issued on September 18, 1980 and attested to by Betty J Holton, C.M.C.
Town Clerk
Next in my line is Norman Cobb, Sr. ( no I will not go through all the death stuff again -short version)
Norman Cobb, Sr. b-9/27/1807 Son of Tisdale and
m-2/11/1830 Sally (Sarah)P. Cobb
d-1/15/1899
Mary Carr Cobb b-12/29/1809
d-1/17/1892
Samuel - father of Tisdale was the son of Richard Cobb. I kind of think of Richard in the context of the cobbler's son who had no shoes - as the Blacksmith whose gun was defective. Don't get me werong because there is no doubt that he was a true soldier.
Thank you
Cynthia

Hi,
We may have communicated some time ago regarding part of your line but I am unsure. I am file manager of the Barnstable & Boston lines for "Cobb & Cobbs" at <"http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cobb/> for the last few years. I actually started with the Taunton line on my own before knowing the website but it has had its own manager for Taunton. I have much of your direct line from the Taunton family from Samuel Cobb & Silence Barney but, if you send something (name(s) & date(s) of a prior ancestor after Samuel Cobb) of it here or off-list, separately, I can verify if it matches my own Taunton file.
Please check if your informaton is not there (start from http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cobb/nic/d0002/g0000075.html#I499).
If you can not contact File Manager Lyn Brudnicki you might check with Mike Cobb (mcbb1(a)swbell.net) who manages the site to have the manager reach you.
Thanks,
Paul Cobb

Alice I do not find any Uncle named Nathan and in the family information sent to Isaac cobb (1825-1890) who did an unpublished genealogy of Elder Henry Cobb's descendants, he shows Calvin as the son of Ebenezer.

WOW! I cannot believe the amount of info you have supplied in such a short time. Thank you all.
If my Calvin Dutton Cobb is the son of Ebenezer, his unclew Joshua married Hannah Edgerton and Hannah's sister Polly married Calvin Dutton.
Do you have any sources for listing Calvin as a son of Ebenezer?
The other contender for Calvin's father is Nathan, a name that is repeatedly used in this family, but not a son of my Calvin.
Alice

Hello, my name is Rick Miller and I recently posted my ydna results on the COBB dna website. Despite my surname being MILLER, I was quite surprised to have all my strongest matches with the surname of COBB. Okay, I can hear the snickering. Anyway, does anyone have any ancestors in the last couple (3-5) generations from Iowa? Especially, Hampton, Iowa in Franklin County?
Also, there is an anonymous dna poster on the Cobb website who I am a 30/30 match with. If you are reading this, could you please email me at rickolga(a)comcast.net ?
Thank you all very much.

Good point, Hubert.
The use of Ebenezer for their first son would be consistent with that.
I found only three children of Ebenezer and Elisabeth:
- Daughter Clarcy, b. 1778
- Son Darrah, b. 1780, supposedly died 1785
- Son Harry, supposedly b. 1782, d. 1782
Yet in the 1790 census Ebenezer reports two males over 16 (himself and someone else) and three under 16, along with 5 females (one presumably his wife). Since the two sons I know of are apparently dead by then, there seem to be several sons and daughters I don't have.

It looks like your Calvin Cobb may be the son of Ebenezer Cobb and Betsey Lathrop and Ebenezer was the son of Gideon Cobb. As Terry said this is a tough line to find information on. Ebenezer died in Sherburne,Rutland Co.,VT
