I want to thank all of you who have responded, the line I am following is indeed the line of Allenson. I have the migration into Michigan of Murray Baxter Cobb and I believe his brother. I will post to this site on a less hectic day!
This is not my line but the line of my deceased cousins maternal line. Her daughter wanted to know more of her maternal grandparent and ggrandparents. She did not know them and her only remaining relative had virtually no info. I did not know them either and had to start with the City Directory at the library just to find the first names of the ggrandparents. As I find additional info I will add it to this site.

Thanyou, Alanson's brother Leonard b.1807, also went to Wisconsin around 1850, a few years before Alanson's sons migrated. Leonard also states he was born in Canada, Which suggests that Silvester and Mercy Cobb were in Canada before 1807. I have Sylvester's death in Albany, NY., in 1839. I'll try to post more often on the Tauton Cobb migration to New York Illinios, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Cliff Cobb

Message Board Post:
Thankyou, I probably should post more of my gleanings on the Taunton Cobbs and their migration out of Massachusetts, but job and time constraints often get in the way. I started a couple of years ago trying to follow the path of my line descended from Augustine, through Eastern, Central, and in my case, here in Western New York. Then on to Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin. The fun begins with trying to separate them from the "Barnstables" as they followed some of the same paths and as the case in Central and Western New York often lived in the same towns and Counties. I didn't bring it up on the previous post, but Leonard b. 1807, the 7th known child of Sylvester and Mercy Hodges Cobb also Migrated from Canada To Wisconsin around 1850 which would put him six to nine yrs. ahead of his brother's sons. Leonard also states in the Census' that he was born in Canada. Which begs the question that apparently Sylvester and Mercy were in Canada by at least 1807. I have it that Sylvest!
er died in Albany, New York Sept.4,1839. Except for the period of the War of 1812, back and forth settlement was quite common for Western NY and Ontario, as many Loyalists found it rather expedient to leave the States after the Revolution. However, there family was still on this side of the Niagara and St.Lawrence Rivers, and they really didn't share a lot of common heritage or customs with the French-speaking Quebecois, and though they did share some descendant lineage with English-speaking Ontario, the aftermath of the War of 1812, opened vast opportunities in the western lands no-longer under British harassment or control. I'll try to post more often on this migration in the future. Cliff Cobb

In the district of Greenville, Dr. James M. Cooper sold land to Wilson Cobb on Nov 9, 1821. Part of the land belonged to James Seaborn (deceased). Witnessed by Nehemiah Tankersley and Ransom Cobb. Judith G. Cooper was interviewed privately to release her land. Another land deed..date of execution 1824...date recorded 1825..Jas. M. Cooper (grantee) from Geo. Seaborn, Mary Seaborn, Sarah Black, W. Cobb, L. Cobb, and R. Cobb (grantors). Description of land: Jas. Seaborn deceased. I believe that Judith G Cooper's maiden name was Seaborn. I am looking on information on her parents..which I believe her father was the above listed deceased James Seaborn, any siblings she had etc. I am also really interested in where these four families were joined. Names were passed down generation to generation in the Cooper line that were from the other three families. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks

As to Allen Cobb, He is probably one of the sons of Alanson Cobb b. April 12, 1790, Taunton, Ma., d.April 29,1855, Taunton (probably incorrect, more likely he died in Canada) and Electa Bangs b.Feb.28,1796, in Ma. d.July 4,1862, West Hawksbury, Prescott, Ontario. They were m. Dec.31,1812. They had at least three sons who moved to Wisconsin between 1856-59. They were Eliphelet b.abt 1817,Canada; Allen b. abt 1820 Canada; and Baxter Bowman Cobb b.abt 1832. Electa was living with son Baxter in the 1860 Bristol, Dane, Wisconsin Census. the Line back would probably be Alanson son of Sylvester Cobb b.June 1,1762, Taunton,Ma. d.Sept.4,1839, Albany, NY, and Mercy Hodges, Sylvester was the son of Richard Cobb b.1717, Taunton, d.Nov 8,1772, Taunton and Constant Burt. Richard was the son of Samuel Cobb b. abt 1682, Taunton d.1726, Taunton and Tabitha Tisdale, thus the Taunton connection through John Cobb. ge b.1852, Baxter b.1854, Charles b.1857, all being born in Canada, and living in Fort Atkinson,Jefferson, Wisc. The 1870 Census shows Allen Cobb, wife Caroline A., children; Alfred b.1849, Can. Baxter also served in the 47th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry during the Civil War. I would agree with Hubert that you have one of your surnamed Cobb male members take a DNA test. Although your Taunton Line descends from John Cobb, my Line from Augustine (John's nephew also had descendants in Walworth, Sun Praire, Dane Co., Wisconsin. I hope the info helps, good luck. If you're still around, it looks like we're searching for the same thing - whatever happened to Jerry Cobb! Do you have any proof that he was the son of William & Barsheba? I have not been able to dig up anything substantial on Jerry - other than he is listed on the roster for King's Mountain. I'm a descendant of Alexander Cobb and am trying to track down his parents, etc.
Any help is appreciated and I'm glad to share what I have.
Michelle

I am quite sure his is the right line. There is a Cobb DNA project for the Taunton, MA line if you are interested. This is not my line but I do know some of the people in That project.

Gail,
Regarding your inquiry about Pinckney Cobb of Walhalla, SC, I don't know if
you have looked, but Mike Cobb's "Cobb-and-Cobbs" website
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~cobb/amb/d0000/g0000100.html#I1600
shows Pinckney Cobb (b.1856 - ) as s/o Leander Morgan Cobb (1828 - 1880)
and Minerva Walraven (1828 - 1885). Leander Morgan Cobb is s/o Andrew
Ambrose Cobb (1804 - 1844) and Lavenia Eduards (1808 - ). Andrew Ambrose
Cobb is s/o John S. Cobb and Frankey Smith of Pickens/Oconee Co.
Also, Robert Cobb, Sr. probably was born in 1787 because he was the first
son of John S. Cobb and Frankey Smith who, themselves, were married August
27, 1786. Moreover, Robert apparently married Eleanor Greer (b.1787 - )
around 1810 because their first child, Mary Polly Cobb was born March 8,
1811. If Robert had been born as late as 1796, he would only have been 14
years old in 1810 marrying a woman who already was 23. This seems highly
unlikely. Also, if you look at the birthdates of other children of John S.
and Frankey, you will find births in 1790,1792, 1793, 1796, 1798, and
1799, so there seems to be little room for another birth in that
decade. Robert's brother Rowland B. Cobb, was born June 25, 1796, so this
certainly rules out 1796 for Robert's birth.
So, if Robert is truly John and Frankey's first child, and assuming that he
was born after wedlock, then 1787 - 1789 seems the only possibility. I am
inclined to accept 1787 because that would make Robert the same age as his
first wife, Eleanor Greer.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I did not get a response notice and was just re-checking. I will check out the
Taunton line. I think you must be right because just looking at the names they follow the naming pattern I have found in this family that being Richard, Allen, Baxter.
Thank you again. My cousins family will be excited to find the string.

I am not quite satisfied with what I have on that, but I think I will have to go with what I do have. The entire website is due for updating. Look for it sometime between now and December.
