Yes, check this site. It shows that Rachel was the daughter of Thomas and
Elizabeth Black .. that Thomas died about 1779 ... that Elizabeth remarried
to Morris Cox on 21 May 1798, and who himself died in 1804.
This complies with Lincoln County court records that show on the very day
Elizabeth married Cox, she signed a Deed of Gift to Ambrose Cobb (husband of
daughter Rachel) consisting of animals, farm implements, household items and
the rights to possess and occupy ... "the house where Thomas Black lived and
died". this Deed was recorded in the minutes of the October 1799 session of
the Lincoln County Court of Pleas.

V.C. I dont have any proof at all nor do I claim that the lady was of
indian ancestry. This claim or allegation has been going on for a long time, and if
there is some proof we'd all like to see it. The most knowledgeable
researcher I know of in the Cobb line believes it to be inaccurate info. and he's been
working on this for about forty years, on all branches of the Cobb family. If
he EVER writes a book, it will be amazin'. I'll certainly buy a copy.
There's just no help to be had for someone trying to connect the Cobb's
with an amerind bloodline insofar as proof goes. Lots of rumor, old tales,
ect. but NO PROOF.

I'm not going to get into this native-American debate (again). But I will address the claim that Rachel Black was the daughter of a Benjamin Black. Just in case the link does not display, go to the Black GenForum and go to Message 8260 which was posted only recently by a Black researcher.

Message Board Post:
What proof do you have that Ambrose, 1784, Cobb/s mother was Native American? I have been searching for proof for years.
STRANGE! The George Washington Cobb who was my father was born in 1888
(in Chilton Co., AL); son of Orleana Beasley Cobb (wife of David
*Wash*ington Cobb), daughter of Henry Beasley, son of Noah Beasley&
Elizabeth Campbell Beasley; Elizabeth being the daughter of David Campbell
and (Creek? wife) Charity Yoholo. Charity Yoholo was the sister of
(Chieftan?) Menawa Yoholo, who fought Andrew Jackson at the "Battle of
Horseshoe Bend", lost, terrribly wounded; but survived to attempt
negotiating with the (White?) Gov't to retain some of the (Creek?) homelands
for his people. Failing in that , he (Menawa) eventually died on the way to
the "Cherokee Strip" reservation in Oklahoma; and was buried in an un-marked
grave, but his portrait is hung in the National Gallery at Washington, D.C.
SO! How's that for a George Washington Cobb (Indian) ascendency? I,
personally, knew and loved my grandparents; "Orleany" and "Wash", in their
senior years; along with my Dad's younger (surviving) brothers, all of whom
still had a slightly darker skin, pointed chin and slightly more "beaked"
nose than the Irish on my Mother's (Robinson) side.
I wonder if there might not have been other descendants of Menawa
Yoholo, himself, that inter-married with
"southward-expanding-European-origin" settlers, eventually acquiring "Cobb"
surnames?
There were stories told in my childhood of Cobbs with Indian ancestry,
both Cherokee and Creek; which I found very believable, in view of the many
young men of that time(1700's+) who were venturing South and West from
Virginia and Carolina, seeking land and fortune, but finding only "Indian
Maidens" with whom they could establish families and estates. I wish that I
could establish (with certainty) the agnate ascendancy of Alexander Cobb
("Wash's" G-father), who came to Bibb County, Alabama, from South Carolina,
about 1818; and whose mother, Rebecca (or "Becky"), is reputed to have been
(part?) Indian. Alexander's brother was Jeremiah, hence the (possibility?)
that he was the son of a Jeremiah, Sr., or the son of the "Jerry" (Nephew?
of William Cobb of Rocky Mount, TN), who departed Rocky Mount (with
William's sons) to join the "Battle of "Kings Mountain" about 1778. (Did he
part with his "cousins?", the "Revolution" won, and go South?)
I hope that this line of research and the Cobb DNA Project will produce
histories of the two "Worlds Apart" (Ethnicities?) coming together
(finally!) in peace and prosperity.
Any Family History verifying the theoretical linkage will be
appreciated.
Wm. T. Cobb, Pensacola, FL

Did you get my outline descendant tree? Would love to find out what
happened to Mary Susan Bridges Cobb. I think she is in Conway, AR, in the
1870 census...but not sure.

Angel, two of the brothers of my gg grandfather took their families to Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas. The name George Washington was used repeatedly in the time period you are talking about. You might try looking for them on an earlier census in LA or even Miss. If you would care to send me some dates and states of birth listed on the census records you have, I will check them against our line, the descendants of Alexander "Sanders" Cobb of AC and then Bibb County, AL.
Hello,
I am of Cherokee desent on both parents sides. HOWELL on my father's
side. A WILLIAM was my Great-grand father ( He had several other names). We may
be kin?
Get back with me on what info you have and I will do the same. O.K.?
