Hello All,
I hope you will take advantage of the three-day free access to the 1930 US
Census provided by Ancestry.com. Almost everyone will have a particular
interest in searching this census year -- whether it is for parents and
grandparents, or possibly the first available census which lists yourself!
Sorry I can't include a link to access the 1930 census, but go to the
Ancestry.com page and then follow the instructions given below from the Ancestry
Newsletter and you'll be on your way to locating your family records!
This is the exact path I followed to access the records:
ancestry.com - 'dive in' - 'continue' - 'search now' - fill in name /
'search' - click on correct person - 'view original record' - wait for 'your
census
image is loaded' / 'skip tour' - to email page / 'share this image'
Best of luck,
Eireann, COBB listmgr.
btw....
Rootsweb has a new Archives Search Engine

Free Three-Day Access to the 1930 US Federal Census
The launch of the every-name index marks the completion of the US Federal
Census Collection at Ancestry.com. The massive project took over 6.6 million
hours of labor and 21.9 billion keystrokes to manually enter the census names
into the database. 15,000 rolls of microfilm–thirteen million original census
images–were scanned and transcribed to complete the project.
To celebrate this milestone, Ancestry.com is offering free access to the
1930 US Federal Census for three days. Just visit Ancestry.com and click through
the census tour or click on one of the Census is Complete banners on the
site.
*Act fast. Free access to the 1930 US Census will expire soon. [through July]
The free period starts when you first access it. If you go to the
Ancestry.com homepage, you should see a window open up announcing the free three-day
access and allows you to Start Here. If you bypassed the page and went straight
to Ancestry.com, you can still access the free 1930 census through the
homepage.
In the upper right corner of the homepage, you should see a brown and orange
ad with a green button that says “Dive In.” Click on that and it will take
you through a presentation that you can click through by hitting “Continue.”
On that next page there is a green link to “Search Now.” That will open a
search box where you can search. When you find someone, click on that name
and on the next screen you will see include the index entry and an option (to
the right) to view the actual image.

My great-grandmother was a daughter of Messiah and Ellen Pitts Cobb. Her name was Virginia Louise Cobb and she married Berry Hunter Blackwell. They had 10 children, and 9 lived to adulthood. My grandmother, Bertie, was the baby of the family. Louise and Hunter both died in 1928. My grandmother was only 14. We aren't sure what they died of. All Bertie remembered was that they "had the dysentery". My grandmother and the next sister, Elsie, went to live with their oldest sister, Ellen Blackwell Wilbanks until they married. Louise and Hunter are buried at Holly Springs Baptist Church. Elsie and Bertie still kept in contact with "Granny Cobb", Aunt Addie, Aunt Belle, and the others. I remember when Aunt Belle died in the 1970's. We went to her funeral home. I think she was the last one to die.
I am most interested in Addie the wife of Wade. I would like to find out more about her parents - Messiah and Louellen Pitts Cobb. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you. Gail - Bel Air, MD.

My great grandmother's name was Flora Mae Cobb (married name Verrett then Garret) and she was deaf. She also had a younger brother who was deaf but died while he was a teenager.
Her parents were Joseph Allen Cobb (B: May 30, 1879 / D: May 14, 1946, Dothan, AL) and Mary Elizabeth Carr (B: October 4, 1886 / D: July 1, 1957).

If anyone has ANY information on the people above it would be greatly appreciated if you could let me know. I would especially appreciate info on the female sides and on Samuel E. Cobb.
Also I do have more info on Mary Elizabeth Carr: Her father was James Wiley Carr (B: December 3, 1855 / D: July 26, 1927) and her mother was Sarah Rebecca Maranda McAllister (B: April 17, 1858 / D: 1934). AND I would be grateful if anyone has more info on the Carr family. (I have heard that one of these two Carr women, Mary Elizabeth or Sarah Rebecca Maranda, was a doctor, anyone have confirmation on this????

Currently the project has no funding for routinely providing free Y-chromosome analysis. The project expands faster and works better for everyone when we do. We still scrounge to make sure that Cobbs outside the U.S. can participate, as this often is helpful to our understanding about centuries old family connections before the various Cobb emigrant ancestors embarked for America. For more information about the ongoing project, that currently has about 75 Cobb surname male participants and is open to Cobbs around the world, please contact me off list at rstrickl(a)oregonvos.net.
