I am looking for information on two Cobb sisters named Gertrude and Rebecca who were born in the 1840's possibly in Georgia or North Carolina. I know they did live in Georgia during the late 1800's and into the 1900's. One family story says they had Indian ancestry.

The James Cobb who was a son of Isaac and Harriet (Avery) Cobb (of the Barnstable line) was born 24 Feb 1812 in Cape Elizabeth, ME and died there 19 Oct 1874. He had a marriage 12 Oct 1848 and children after 1848. Therefore there was a different James Cobb who had these children. One who has the same timeline (born 3/30/1804, married Betsey (LNU) and died 6 Sep 1864 in Chautauqua Co., NY) was a son of David Cobb (of the Taunton line) and Phebe Haskins. James Cobb's wife Betsey died in 1840.
James appears to have remarried to have a wife Mary Hale in 1850 but children before 1840 would be by his first wife.

Larry,
DNA analysis has established that Samuel Savage Cobb shared a common ancestor with the Ambrose Cobb(s) who arrived in Virginia in 1635.
The ancestry of Ambrose Cobb has been well documented as a family group from County Kent, England. Thus, the first thing we do is eliminate the oral tradition of a Wales connection.
Since Ambrose was the only known member of his group to immigrate to the US, it is likely Samuel Savage is actually descended from Ambrose himself. It is firmly established that Ambrose descendants had moved from Virginia to the region along the Georgia-South Carolina border by the 1780's. And it is there we must look for the link between SS and known Ambrose descendants.
I have a theory which literally ignores developed pedigrees that have been long accepted as gospel. But due to the fact I have become so accustomed to the surprises produced by DNA testing, I have overcome all reluctance to challenge old outdated research.
Email me direct and we'll exchange ideas.
