Private First Class John William Cobb of the United States Army and Evansville, Indiana, s/n 35728425, was killed March 9, 1944, while serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He is buried in the Manila American Cemetery in the Philippies.
Our goal is to find the families of John William Cobb and send them photographs of his grave here in the Philippines.
These references were found at the Indiana State Library website; World War II database. We do not have the information since the microfilms are not available to us here in the Philippines.

We welcome any information that would lead us to find the family of this Indiana hero.
Hello, I am a retired American residing in the Philippines with my Filipino wife. A year ago we visited the memorial as visitors but came home with a mission in our hearts. As we gazed over the beautifully manicured acres and the 17,202 American graves, it was obvious only a few families had ever visited their graves.
I stepped into the soft grass and focused my camera on one of the white crosses, a grave of an Ohio soldier. A strange calmness was in the air as I walked a few more steps and a cross of an Indiana soldier lay square in my path. The letters of the inscription on the marker was bolder than ever, here lay a soldier from my home state.
At that moment a quiet brainstorm aroused my humble thoughts. I wondered if I could locate any of the families of these men. My stride became more defined and within a few moments I had located and photographed eight more graves.
Since those gut-wrenching but touching moments we have energized our efforts in finding the families of these American men from Indiana. We have located well over 100 and have delivered the FREE photographs to them via email.
Please visit our website and see the men we have honored and the families we have assisted in finding a more genuine closure of a horrible tragedy.
http://fizkid.tripod.com/
Our success in finding the families was the result of journalists, amateur genealogists, historians, historical societies, librarians and lots of wonderful Hoosiers and those with Indiana ties across America.
During our search we have also reached families from other states as well and have filled special requests for photos from the Manila American Cemetery. We presently have photographed only the graves of the Indiana soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen; however we have photographed all of the names that are engraved on the "Tablets of the Missing". We offer them free of charge to anyone who asks.
We ask for your help in finding their families. We understand this is a genealogy board but we do not need immediate genealogy in that form, we need leads to find the families. Please become one of our special volunteers today and find the family of an Indiana serviceman from near your home. A list of the men from your Indiana county is available, free and all you must do is request it.

George was born Dec 24 1818 in Montgomery Co., MO. His first wife, Mary R. Wilson, was born Mar 3, 1828 and died in 1855. They were married Feb 15, 1844 and had five children: Delila, Eliza Jane, John Adam, William Franklin, and Sarah Ann. After Mary’s death, George married Talitha Chamberlain Mar 18, 1856 and they had one child, Laura. Talitha was born Nov 9, 1816 and died Jan 13, 1909. According to his obituary, George moved from Montgomery Co. to the area that became Andrew Co. in 1833 when he would have been fifteen years old, but it is more likely that he moved along with his uncle, Phillip, in 1836. George died Sep 13, 1909. George and Talitha are buried in the Savannah, MO Cemetery.
George is one of ten children of Adam and Delilah Cobb. Adam was born Dec 28, 1792 in Cheat River, VA. He married Delila Bodkin in Fleming Co., KY, around 1821 and they had ten children: George Watson, Margaret, Francis M., Mary (married John H. Boswell), James Richard, two females, and three males. Adam was a soldier in the War of 1812 and was a noted Fourth of July orator. Delila was born in 1795 and died Dec 7, 1873. Adam died Dec 7, 1871 in Callaway Co. or Montgomery Co., MO, at 78 years of age. Adam and Delila are buried in the New Providence Cemetery.
Please e-mail me directly if you would like to discuss this information in more depth.

I have some info on some of the Cobbs in Missouri( Cape Guirado). Two of
my 4-great Aunts were Cobbs and married Abernathy brothers and moved there.
Most of their off-springs stayed in that area, while some of them moved back
to the East Tennessee or Texas areas.
As this will go through the COBB-L@rootsweb.com.....you could contact me
through an e-mail......at TennesseeSilver(a)aol.com.
