Dear friends and family:
Thom and I (Susy) have been hit with several bad virus programs. One of
which has invaded our address list (hence the large mailing). We have taken steps
to quaranteen all of the bad bugs and thought to warn you. I'll ramble here,
but this is important.
I received (and opened one) message from Thom. Off and running. A second
came in...I deleted it. You all probably got the same Emails, one entitled:
DELEVERY SERVICE MAIL...the other: IS DELIVERED MAIL. If you opened either
one...you've got the virus, plus..
My current boss and his computer guru have given me two programs to download
(a 30 day trial). Did so and picked up two Trojan Horses, and about 20 other
little gems. Our current virus program, Norton, did NOT find these goodies.
The first one is: 'a-squared'. Go to the site and download the free 30 day
trial. It's good. The second is: AVG (no adware, which for those of you who
don't know, is the spy ware sent by many sites). Strongly suggest you do the
above...takes a while to scan...but the results are worthwhile. I did encounter
one mell of a hess.
Sorry for invading your computers, but it does happen.

Oops! My memory is not as good as my forgettery.
It was Araminta Damon Cobb who married Jessee A. Phillips in Franklin Co
TN on 27 Aug 1845. Within a year he filed for divorce on grounds of adultry,
but dropped the case due to lack of funds and left the area. Before he left
however, he filed a deed to be held in trust for two minor children of his.
Don't know if they were Araminta's kids or not. I will have to go back through
the records I have to see if the children were named.
Araminta married P.B. Darwin on 22 Aug 1868 and was also married to
Solomon Cox. I was told that Solomon was her third husband but that is
prob. wrong since she is on the 1860 Bedford Co census as a Cox. I have
not found a marriage date for her to Solomon Cox.
The info I have from a court case (1870-1878) states that she was
deceased and had minor children living in KY, names unknown. I have not found
her in KY but I was looking for her as Araminta Cox since I thought Solomon was her
3rd husb. I need to go back and check for her as Araminta Darwin in KY in 1870 or
P.B. Darwin with minor Cox or Darwin children in the household.
The 1860 census shows her as 29 yrs old. I think this is wrong. I have that she
was born about 1824 and died before 1878. If she were 29 in 1860 that would have
made her about 14 yrs old when she married which is possible.
Sorry about giving her sister Mary's name instead of Araminta - must have been
a senior moment.

Susan Lovelace married to Joshua Butler was the daughter of Zachariah Rhodam and Lucy Lovelace. The James you are mentioning is probably the son of Zachariah and Lucy.
There is the possibility that Lucy was the daughter of JamesWebster. So far, the only reference that I have found for a Violet Webster was in a letter written by a descendant of Susan and Joshua. However, she also thought that Susan's father was James. Susan is mentioned in her brother's will as his sister. Carter is documented as a son of Zachariah in a deed listing heirs.
There is a very active Lovelace list and a dna study is in progress. So far, Zachariah is the oldest ancestor of Susan that is documented. You might want to join the Lovelace list if you are a descendant. At the moment we are looking for a male Lovelace descendant of Pryor, Elias or John who might be willing to participate.
I would be happy to exchange information with you.

Okay folks, I need some help. The 1850 census of Pike County, Missouri, shows a Noah Cobb - widower - with five children: Andalusia b.1831 - Sarah J. b.1834 - Wm Benjamin b.1835 - Permelia b.1838 - and Henry b.1841 --- the first two born in NC and the rest in Missouri.
From what I can gather, most folks seem to agree this was the Noah Cobb who married Phoebe Lovelace in Caswell Co, NC in 1820. However, most also seem to agree this man was born about 1781 - whereas the man in Pike Co gave a birth year of about 1801. In 1860, the Pike County Noah repeated a birth year of about 1801.
So --- was he or wasn't he the man who married Phoebe Lovelace? If not, then who was he and who did he marry? His wife was deceased before 1850.
In the 1840's Jessee A. Philllips married Mary Cobb in Franklin Co TN
(southern middle TN). The family left the area and eventually moved
to KY. Mary is of my line of Cobbs. Unfortunately, I have not been
able to locate this family after they left Franklin Co.

Virginia,
You say Mary md a Jesse Phillips, I have Arminta D. Cobb md Jesse Phillipps
and it was 1845 in Franklin Co, Tenn.
Did you mean Araminta instead of Mary?
Where did you find them in Ky?

Lee,
Araminta is found in 1860 Bedford Co, Tenn under Araminta Cox.
I was told that she had 3 marriages one being Jesse Phillips which is a
marriage record for her in Franklin Co, Tenn for Aug 27, 1845 to Jesse.
I was told that she md Powell Darwin, but there is a Powell Darwin in 1860
Franklin Co, Tenn with a wife Nicy, this Powell was 57 yrs old.
Then I was told she md Soloman Cox.
Seems her first marriage was to Jesse.
Here is what I find for her which list no Phillips children in her household.
Page 251 Shelbyville, Western Dist Aug 14th.
1303/1256 Araminta Cox 29 Tenn (1831)
Lucinda J. 13 Tenn (1847) so if she md Jesse first there would be probably
be time for one child, so my guess is probably she had no children with Jesse.
The other children she had was J.H. Cox age 8
and A.B. Cox age 7 all born in Tenn.
So wonder if she md Powell Darwin after 1860.
Virginia, do you know the marriages of Araminta Cobb when she md Darwin and Cox?
>Gay - Do you know if this Jesse A. Phillips and Areyminty D. Cobb had any
children? Thanks, Lee

I saw the several posts regarding the German Cobbs in and around Robertson
Co TN. I have a book on this line called Our Cobb Family by Herschel Neill Cobb
and his brother Rodney Dale Cobb. It was published in 1975 and details the
family of Friederic KOP (b. Germany), his son Wilhelm M. KOPP (b. NC),
his son Frederick Felix KOBB who married Barbara Louis (both b. NC, and his
son Solomon COBB.
A descendant, Wllliam Dawson Cobb, wrote the following of the early history of
his family:
"Fredrec Cobb left Berlin Germany 1740 and settled in North Carolina. His son
William M. Cobb came to Fort Nashborough with his family on a flat boat with
James Robertson and settled what is Nashville. They built a fort against the
Indians 1780 and William M. furnished the lock to lock the main gate and I, W.
D. Cobb have the lock. It has a German crown stamped on it date 1740.
William M. Cobb had a son Felix Fredric Cobb married a Louis. He settled 3 miles
west of Springfield 1805." The book goes on to suggest that since NC had no
major seaport, they must have arrived elsewhere and migrated by a land route.
The document Chronicles of TN refers to the Flewellyn area of Robertson Co
and says "...Still eastward, but half a mile ... was a place known as Flewellyn.
Up the road about a mile Solomon Cobb lived and died. Old Mr. Jacob Fiser
lived a short distance up from the ford on Carr's Creek. Down the creek lived
Mike Fiser. Just south of him over Carr's Creek was old Mr. Cobb (Frederick
Felix Cobb) father of Solomon Cobb. The Cobbs came from PA with some early
settlers and formed a fine neighborhood, being good farmers and excellent
citizens."
Hope this info is of help to those of you looking for German Cobbs in TN.
