Hi Virginia,
Yes, I'm still working on that project. I will eventually upload it to the
website as a special report. Thus far, there has been no reason to suspect
your Cobbs were kin to any other group I've found in that region. If I come
across such a suspicion however, you'll be the first person to hear about
it.
Regards,
Mike

I have several questions concerning these two:
1. Is the names James Knox Cobb, Sr. or James W. (possibly William)?
2. Was Martha born in 1855 or 1866? I have 1855 which seems more in line with the other children and with her marriage to David Crum in 1872. I have the 2 siblings following Martha as John Wesley b 1857 and Howell M. b 1867. Howell M. was my grandfather.
3. Who was James' father?
Name of a COBB ancestor: William Pharoah Cobb b. July 16, 1798 and d. Oct.
14, 1827, Knox Co., TN. m. Martha (Patsy) Todd Dec. 19, 1817. She b. Dec.
19, 1803 Knox Co.
Name of his parents: William Cobb 1 of Rocky Mount, TN.
His birthdate & place: 1723, NC (acc. to DAR rcds.)
His deathdate & place: 1803 Knox Co., TN ( Will Info.)
Name of spouse & marriage date: 2nd wife Sally unknown (def. not Stancil)

Mike,
I think I remember seeing that you are working on the Cobbs who were in Northwest TN,
Obion Co., and into MO. Included in the ones in Obion Co. you will find Marion R. Cobb
and his nephew (my grandfather) James Claude Cobb. James' 2 brothers Isaac and
Hershell were very! briefly in Obion Co. They are not in any way related to
any of the other Cobbs in that county.
In the 1930's James Claude Cobb moved his family to southeast MO. For a very brief period
two of his brothers, Isaac and Hershel lived near him before moving back to Williamson Co.,
TN. I don't think they were in MO or Obion Co during census years. Neither did they marry,
nor did any of their children, in either MO or Obion Co.
This is just a heads-up so you don't accidently include my line with the other Cobbs. Marion
R. Cobb went to Obion Co for the good farming land; later lived in Izard Co AR before returning
to Obion Co. James Claude Cobb moved to Obion Co to live with his uncle Marion R. after
his father died in 1910. James married my grandmother in Obion Co.
Virginia
The Moore and Cobb names are closely associated in Edgecombe County,
NC, and the given name Howell was a popular Cobb name, but other than
that, I don't have any more information which would help.

Anne,
I don't know that I do. All I know is Henry M. Cobb was supposedly born in
SC 9 May 1815 (16). I am unable to find his parents and/or birth
information.
By DNA testing I know we tie into Henry the Elder (See Cobb and Cobbs web
page) but I can not find the thread. I can only prove up to 1830 or so.

My earliest documented ancestor is Nathan Cobb, b. Massachusetts, blacksmith. Death date and burial is unknown. He married Mary Ann Walker, Feb 26, 1795, St. Pau's Episcopal Church, Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of John Walker of England.
Nathan had a son David, b. Jun 4/5, 1810, Baltimore, MD. The family moved up and down the east coast because of his father's work but were based in the Camden, NJ and Philadelphia area. A Josiah Cobb is also in the family as is a William Butler Cobb. DNA testing has shown that we belong to the Taunton blacksmith Cobb line.
Family notes, without documentation, indicate that Nathan's father might have been a William.
Can someone please give me more information on Morgan4, William5, and David6 in case this might be my line? Thanks.

To find the connection of the southern cobbs, look in Historical Southern
Families, Vol. XII , Cobb of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, with related
families of Massengill, Coleman. This starts with Joseph Cobb the immigrant
and goes thru his lines. There are some mistakes, but you might find your
connections to Bertie and Northampton County. The lines kept changing in
those counties.

Cliff, I have been digging and found this much, I posted a query at the Niagara board too, the Niagara Genweb website has absolutely NOTHING to offer; Maybe the maillist will help;
I cannot figure where all these kids went, except ALL were of age to serve in Civil War , but the gals not married must have died too before 1870
