John Cobb invests from Cumberland Co., VA, in Wilkes Co., GA, land.
Does he move there too?
Joshua Cobb appears as witness to a deed between Tindell and Doherty
1787 Wilkes/Richmond Co., GA.
Does anyone have other documents with these names together? What is
the connection?

Robert Cobb Jr.
Born - April 22, 1838 Died - October 2, 1921
GOOD MAN GONE TO HIS REST
Rev. Robert Cobb Passed Away in Eighty-third Year
A good man was called to his reward when Rev. Robert Cobb passed from this
life recently. He was born in 1838 and he served throughout the War Between the
States as a gallant soldier of the Confederacy. He was wounded on the field
of battle while rescuing wounded soldiers. At the close of the war he
returned to his home and entered the ministry of the Baptist church, and for over
fifty years served his denomination and his Lord as a faithful minister of the
Gospel of Christ. He assisted in the organization and constitution of nine
churches and was an able minister, consecrated Christian, a wise counselor and a
great peacemaker. He was well known in both North and South Carolina, and his
labors also extended into Georgia. Rev. Cobb leaves a wife and seven
children, besides a host of friends to mourn his death. He was a great factor in the
advancement, civilization and uplift of the upper section of Oconee, to which
his labors were largely confined. His life was open, his every act and word
denoting the trueness of the Christianity which he professed. It can truly be
said of this good man that "to know him was to love him". He was a kind and
affectionate husband and father, a good citizen and an ideal neighbor. His
remains were laid to rest in the Mountain Grove Cemetery near Long Creek Academy
in the presence of a large assemblage of sorrowing relatives and friends. The
services were conducted by Rev. F.T. Burton and S.R. Cobb. The text "The Lord
is my Shepherd; I shall not want." was used as the basis of the remarks
concerning the deceased and it was a most appropriate and fitting service.
The bereaved wife and children of the deceased have the sympathy of many in
their sorrow. May our Heavenly Father, whom the deceased served so long and so
well keep and guide and protect the sorrowing ones.
"Servant of God, well done. Enter into the joys of eternal rest."

A very good idea. With many results of the COBB DNA PROJECT coming in, a forum specific to how and where the families fit in and a method to share research is needed. I am a decendant of Augustine Cobb of the "Taunton Cobbs", and already there have been exact (26 marker) matches to decendants of Augustine's brother Edward and uncle John Cobb's decendants. This leaves us with the problem of fitting them in as we find them scattered across the continent. For those researching their "Taunton Cobb" Match, I do have some pretty extensive data on the decendants of David Cobb (William1, Morgan2, Augustine3, William4, Morgan5), and am willing to share this Information. Again a good idea, let's hope we can make it work for the benefit of all. Cliff Cobb
Patti,
Andrew J. Cobb (1844 Pickens SC - 1913 Jackson GA) was my ggf, and I would
be very interested to share the information I have on his family with
you. Please contact me directly via email: tcobb(a)bgnet.bgsu.edu.
For the record, in the 1900 census Andrew says that he and Elizabeth had 11
children. I have only been able to identify nine as follows:
Children of ANDREW COBB and SARAH TODD are:
i. ROBERT L.19 COBB, b. Abt. 1866, Pickens Dist. SC; d.
January 5, 1900, Franklin Co., GA.
ii. JOHN C./H. COBB, b. April 1867, Pickens, SC; d. Bef. 1910,
Franklin Co. GA.
iii. FOSTER H. COBB, b. March 1870, Oconee Co. SC; d. 23 April
1920, Clarke Co. GA.
iv. NAOMI "NAY" COBB, b. 1874.
v. EVALINA (EVIE) L. COBB, b. 05 October 1877, SC; d. 17
January 1965, Rock Springs (Banks Co.) GA.
vi. BEAD E. (BEADIE) COBB, b. 1878.
vii. VESTER (VESTA) J. COBB, b. 05 August 1883, Pickens, SC; d.
December 1969, Thomasville (Davidson) NC.
viii. LULA R. COBB, b. 01 September 1886, Franklin Co. GA; d. 15
September 1972, Atlanta (Fulton Co.) GA.
ix. ELIZA (LIZA) EMILY COBB, b. May 1890, GA.
In addition to the above, the 1900 census lists a grandson, Arthur (b.
1899). I have been unable to assign him to any of the above children.
I have never heard of a daughter named Zora, but from the date you give,
this seems to be the same person as Bead.
I have been told that Bead married three times, first to a Mr.
Nally/Nalley, then to Mr. Holmes, then a third time to (---?unknown), and
that she had children only from the first marriage. I have been unable to
verify this. If you have additional information about Bead/Zora, I would
be very interested to know.
Max White, a descendant of Evie Cobb White, lives in Demorest, GA and has
shared some pictures of several of Andrew's children, including one of
Bead. I'm sure he would be willing to share if you are interested.
I am descended from Andrew's first son, Robert Lee Cobb who married Clarkie
Elizabeth Burgess in Franklin County GA in 1887.
Thanks,
Tom Cobb

Robert Cobb born: 7/16/1891 died 7/6/1931
I was going through my old newspaper clippings and entering obituary
information and I ran across a Robert Cobb that had committed suicide. I have the
newspaper clipping and death certificate if anyone would like a copy please email
me off the list.
According to the death certificate his parents were Balus Cobb (you may have
seen it spelled Baylus or Baylis elsewhere) and Rebecca Conway (at least that
is what it looks like). The informant is Bry Cobb. Robert is buried at Mtn.
Grove Church in Mtn. Rest, Oconee Co., SC
In my notes I have Baylus Cobb b. 3/3//1844 married to Rebecca. Baylus being
the son of Ephraim and Louise Turner Cobb. I have their children listed as
Bry, Steve, Joel, and Dovie. I don't have a Robert listed. This doesn't mean
that he isn't the son of this Baylus and Rebecca. I'm just not sure enough at
this point.
The news article is from the Keowee Courier July 1931. The headlines are
"Robert Cobb kills self with shotgun". It continues to say that he was married
to a young woman by the name of Holbroooks. The family lived on Tugaloo Street
in the old rookery.
Please let me know if anyone would like a copy and if they can add anything
to Robert's history. Gail
Messiah/Masiah Cobb b. 1/15/1859 d. 4/18/1918
The following two obituaries differ a bit and you would have to know the
families in order to pick out the problems.
The first one states that Cy outlived his mother by many years. This is true
- his mother being Susan Long. Oral family history states that she died in
childbirth. The obituary continues to name six brothers - these were actually
half-brothers. They all shared the same father Robert Cobb but these brothers
were the sons of Nancy Long, Susan's sister. It is strange that the
newspaper listed Betty Burton as half-sister - this is true - but why not the
brothers.
The second one states that Cy's parents are still living at the time of his d
eath. It is true that Robert and Nancy were still living - however, Nancy was
not his birth mother, but most likely was considered his Mother being the
only one he knew.
Death of Rev. M. Cobb
On April 18, at 11:35 p.m. Rev. M. Cobb breathed his last. He was a good
man, having been a servant of the Lord Jesus Christ for about 30 years, during
which time he served many churches and was a good shepherd. He professed,
Christ when a young man and joined the Baptist church, which faith he held until
his death. He is survived by his wife, five daughters and three sons as
follows: Mrs. Anna Moore of Eastanolle, Ga; Mrs. Lou Blackwell of Walhalla; Mrs.
Bell Watkins of West Union; Mrs. Addie Chambers of the Holly Springs section;
Mrs. Ollie McCall of Newry; Clifton Cobb, Luther Cobb, Alfred Cobb of Walhalla.
His father, Rev. Robert Cobb, who is about 80 years old, is now living in the
Long Creek section. His mother preceded him to the grave many years. There
are six brothers of the deceased living, as follows: G.W. and W.H. Cobb, who
live in the Long Creek section; Rev. Sam and John Cobb, of Lavonia, Ga.;
Jefferson Cobb, of the Oakway section, and Silas Cobb of the Fair Play section. A
half-sister Mrs. Bettie Burton, of Holly Springs also survive him. At the time
of his death he was pastor of Holly Springs and South Side Baptist churches,
and the members of these churches sincerely mourn his death. A good man has
gone to reap his reward.
Rev. Masiah Cobb died at his home in the Hetrick Hosiery Mill Village, just
out of Walhalla, last Wednesday night. He had long been suffering from Bright’
s disease, though he had never given up, and until within a few weeks of his
death had retained active charge of pastoral work as pastor of the South Side
Baptist church. He was born in January, 1853, and was a native of the Mountain
Grove section of Oconee. His parents, Rev. and Mrs. Robert Cobb, are still
living. He was a good man and had lived an active and useful life, devoting
his time to physical labors as well as serving weak churches in his
denomination. Funeral services were held Friday, and the interment was made at Mountain
Grove cemetery, the services being conducted by Rev. L.H. Raines. The Courier
joins with other friends of the family in extending sympathy to them in their
sorrow.
