Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
How old was your mother when she married him? Was he a great deal older
than her or about the same age? This helps me figure out when he was
born so that I can check the census records and my files to see if I can
find more info and perhaps others in his family.

I am trying to connect with others who are related to the Asa Cobb line. Original Asa (there were several) was b. 1701 Landsend, Cornwall, England. Later immigrated to NY state and PA.I would like to see if anyone has any birth information on him other than a year.
To all interested in Quakers of Isle of Wight, Virginia. Evidently records
are not available for the earliest settlers there, but in 1672, George Fox,
the founder of the Society of Friends, sailed to Virginia to visit. In his
journal he spoke of a great meeting at [Nancemum] of friends and others
including the widow Wright, and Col. Dewes . Then he traveled on and
said," Another very good meeting we had at William Yarrow's, at Pagan Creek;
which was so large that we were fain to be abroad, the house not being big
enougn to contain the people. A great openness there was, the sound of
truth spread abroad, and had a good savour in the hearts of people. The
Lord have the glory forever"!
For North Carolina information, see Fox's Journal, Travels in Virginia and
North Carolina 1672.

Currently, I have stretched out to 7 generations from Josiah Cobb, but I am stumped as to just who Josiah was.He appeared to come to Monroe Co.,NY before 1817, and settled with other Cobbs(decendants of Gideon- John Cobb of Conn., Vt.. The NARA has put together a document to determine whether records in their
possession are important to keep. The document is online at URL
http://www.archives.gov/about_us/opportunities_for_comment/draft_appraisal_p
olicy.html and they are inviting comments .. by April 18, 2003. One area
that concerned me was they indicated that if the information could be found
on other records, that may be a reason to destroy the information. This
concerns me as we all know that not all records are completed and we need
multiple sources to get the correct information.
See what you think and comment. Feel free to send this to other lists ..
and I apologize if you have received duplicates of this email as I sent it

For those who descend from this family, you might find this of interest.
There is an article in the March/April issue of "South Carolina Wildlife"
magazine entitled "Life on a Sandy Knoll." www.scwildlife.com (When I
checked the site this morning it still featured last month's cover.)
The article is about archaeological digs at the site of Kolb's home. It
begins: "In the year 1732 on a knoll of sand deep in the Great Pee Dee River
swamp, frontiersman JOHANNES KOLB dug postholes for his house and
outbuildings, not realizing that he was digging backward in time."
The archaeological area is called the "Johannes Kolb Site" and is at the
2,800 acre S. C. Department of Natural Resources' Heritage Preserve.
Unfortunately, the article gives no clues to Kolb or his descendants.
If there any Cobbs out there who descend from this family, I'd love to know
more about his descendants.
