I found Thaddeus Cobb in the 1850 Michigan census (Branch Co, Gilead Township). He is the son of Gary (I think the name starts with a G but is unreadable and does not look like Gary) and Patty. They are living next to my gr grandfather Luman and wife Cordelia with a son Frederick. Frederick must have died before 1860 when they are in WI. (Grant Co.) Gary and Luman both enlisted in the Civil War from WI. Luman was with Co D,. 33rd volunteers. Gary was a wagoneer in the war. Luman moved to Iowa in 1880. I found the pension record for the widows of both Luman and Gary in Correctionville. Iowa. I do not remember the name of Gary's wife. My mother was born in Iowa in 1894 and remembed Grandpa "Lu". She and her parents moved back to WI about 1900. Luman's sons were James Usual, Cornel and Lee Homer (my grandfather). I have names of all "Uncle Jim's" 13 children and also Cornels 4. My moher Gladys had a brother Ariel who died as a child and is buried at Correctionvil!

I believe that Usual Cobb was the father of my gr grandfather Luman Cobb born 1824 in NY. I found him in the Michigan census (Branch Co. Gilead Township) in 1850 Married to Cordelia (Frances) (that is correct from family records) with a 2 year old son Frederick. Frederick does not appear in Wisconsin. The next person to Luman in the census is another Cobb starting with a G. (Gary?), but not readable, married with a son and in the Wisconsin census (Grant Co) in 1860. He and his brother Gary enlisted in the Civil War from WI. Luman moved to Correctionville, Iowa in 1880 and is buried there (d 1904). I have lots of family information.

As the "Website Mechanic" for "Cobb and Cobbs", I can tell you that the six databases currently found at that site are maintained by individual File Managers (including myself), no one of which is genuinely qualified to answer questions regarding the information found in a dbase other than their own. Frequently, if we receive a query we cannot answer, we'll pass it among ourselves to see if one of the other FM's has anything.
As stated in the Intro, the goal is to place at one centralized internet location, a single-organized-and well documented database on each of the COBB families that has immigrated to North America. By no means do I imply that there are only six such families. There are many Cobb families in this country, that are not yet represented at the website. All that's lacking is for someone to come forward and volunteer to serve as the File Manager for their respective Cobb line.
The information found in those six databases is the result of research performed by ourselves, and by others who have shared their findings with us. As is popularly phrased, each of those dbases is a "work in progress", meaning that there is always room for additions and corrections. And as always, while we all stive for excellence, the standard rule in genealogy is to take nothing as gospel until you have verified it for yourself.
As we speak, there is a small mountain of material I have received from other researchers, on my work desk waiting to be added into my website database that I simply did not have the time to do before the February update. Hopefully, I will be caught up before the next update in June. The other File Managers are probably in the same shape.
If you cannot find a fact you are seeking, or if you have a question regarding a piece of data found at "Cobb and Cobbs", the thing to do is to email the File Manager of that specific database.
Thanks for asking.
Mike Cobb

Are you referring to the C B Cobb grave in the small cemetery down the road from Jemison Middle School?
If so the dates were b. -- -- 1800 d. Feb 10 1865. There was an inscription that referred to C B Cobb as "mother" but I did not transcribe.

Yes, we are related. Sarah Jane had several siblings who moved to Izard Co ARK -- George W., James Pulaski, Jesse Green, etc. Later followed another brother, Marion Rice Cobb.
I have been researching this line for over 20 years and will be happy to exchange info. Virginia Greene <vcgreene(a)att.net>

I am looking for information on the above, I am working on my grandmothers family tree. And have gotten back to John Cobb born about 1812 in Kentucky. On a 1870 Census record of Livingston Co. Ky. It shows him with Mary 38, Jessee C. 18, James Thomas 14, Lucy 4. I am assuming that Mary is his wife even tho it does not say. Does any one have any information on this John? So I can continue with my research.
Thank You

David - I am descended from Jesse Cobb throught his daughter Sara Jane b. 1834, TN, m. 1850 Richard Frank Walker in Franklin County, TN, moved to Izard County, Arkansas (I think after the Civil War) and died in 1923 in Allen, Collin, Texas. Jesse Cobb was listed as Sara Jane's father on her death certificate. Unfortumately, I have just started tracing this line, so have nothing further back than Jesse. Would appreciate any info you have and I can tell you what I know about Sara Jane. My grandfather always said that we had Cherokee blood, but I had not been able to find it until I read about Nancy "Mandy" Reese in your message. Look forward to hearing from you. Jan
