I ran across this on MSNBC and as there had been some discussion a while
back on DNA I thought perhaps someone may find this of interest.
As we all have brick walls, I find the following very interesting and need
anyone's input they may have to help me.
To give you a better understanding of this problem there has been
conflickting data, which has confused me.
A Mr. Bob Manning said he was from Ethelred Cobb and his father was William
and Martha Boone. This was displayed on Gen Forum and he no longer is on the
net, for me to discuss this problem.
Here is the problem:
Guardian Bonds 1796-1835 Administration Bond Estate John Cobb 1799
We Joseph Cobb and John Matlock and John Cock all of Grainger Co, Tenn are
held and firmly bound unto his excellency the Governor in the sum of one
thousand dollors 22 Feb 1799. The above bounded Joseph Cobb administrator of
John Cobb dec'd.
Signed Sealed and delivered in presence of S.M.C. Yancy.
Joseph Cobb seal, John Matlock seal, J. Cocke seal.
Grainger County, Tenn County Court Mintues:
John Cobb died before 19 Feb 1799 when Ethelred Cobb relinquished his right
of administration on the estate. Joseph Cobb was appointed adminstrator.
Reconstructed 1810 Tenn Census: John Cobb Lincoln, County unpaid taxes (may
be nonresident).
Ethelred Cobb moves to Lincoln County, Tenn where I find in the court
mintues the following: John Cobb died before 7th of Nov 1814 when his widow
Elizabeth Cobb was appointed adm.
John Cobb an inventory of the estate of John Cobb dec'd was exhibited in
open court and ordered to be made part of the records. (a reliable person
suggested that this may be Ethelreds son).
On motion Elizabeth Cobb relic and wife of John Cobb dec'd departed without
making a will, Elizabeth entered into bond with James Daniel her security.
Issued 7th Nov 1814.
So Cobb reserchers what would you read into this? Can anyone help?
And who is this John Cobb????
Ethelred Cobb was from N.C., before coming to Tenn, married Susanah McColn
Feb 13, 1791 in Washington Co, Tenn.
My line is Franky Cobb who md Thomas Richardson Mullins in 1811 Grainger Co,
Tenn. Trying to find her correct parents. Some say Joseph Cobb is the
father. No evidence has been proven for her parents. But did have a brother
Jesse Cobb which is documented.
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am looking for info on the family of baseball player Ty Cobb.
He is supposed to be related to my late husband's family, but I have no idea how, except somehow through COBB.
Back in the 1800's there was a Newton John (or John Newton) COBB (1824-1904) in St. Lawrence County, NY, marr. to Rosetta Holden. They had five children, one of whom was son George E. COBB (1861-1947), marr. to Cora A. Dana. These were the COBB grgrgrandfather and grgrandfather, respectively, of my late husband Charles A. Hiscock/Hitchcock. George had 3 children: Alton, Mabel, & Rosetta COBB, with Mabel having married Archie P. Hiscock in 1908 in Oswegatchie, NY. I do know that the siblings of George E. COBB were: John, Amos, Harvey & Marvin.
If anyone knows anything about any connection of these people to Ty Cobb, please let me know. (I think that the ancestor of these/our COBBs was John COBB - the grgrgrgrandfather.)

Can anyone help me connect this ancestor to her birthplace and parents? I would so appreciate any help.
Mercy/Mary COBB b. abt 1820, Ma. (unknown Co or Twp)
m. 25 Dec 1839, Gates, Monroe, NY to James
HUTTON, by Calvin Sperry, Esq.
Children (3) born in Gates
Elizabeth, 1840
William, 1842
Richard, 1844
The couple was located on the Gates, Monroe 1840 Census.
By 1850, they had migrated to E. Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Oh. They remained there through 1860, then moved to Amherst, Lorain, Oh., where the family all remained and were buried. Three more children were born to this family after moving to Ohio: Charles, Ella and Myrta.
I desperately need help in finding Mercy/Mary's birthdate, birthplace and parents, (according to Census records, all born in Ma.), and would appreciate any info on the Cobb parents, while in the Monroe Co area.
Do you know this family? Thanks in advance, Donna.
