Dolores,
I don't know your family, but thought I would give you a hint for the
Corleys. Some of the Basham family who ended up in Kanawha were from Franklin
Co Va. (before that Bedford, as lines changed). There were some Corleys
there who married, early on, with that family. There seemed to be a migration
from that part of Va to WV and Kanawha in particular.

I'm seeking information on Catharine COBB (1819-1878) and her husband Henry
W. CORLEY. They were married May 26, 1836 in Kanawha County, WV.
The following appears in the "History of South Charleston, WV" on page 326:
"Catherine and Henry Corley were the parents of Helen Eastwood, Mary Jane
Childress, Carrie Hall and William Meredith "Tip" Corley, who was killed in
the Battle of Cedar Creek. Catherine remained in the Cobb homeplace on
Kanawha Heights after the death of her parents."

Cobb Chronicles by John E. Cobb pp.11-13
In Joseph Foster's "Alumni Oxonienses, 1500-1714" there are 20 Cobb, Cobbs, Cobbe, Cobbes alumni. The only Richard Cobb(e) of the right date would appear to be: Cobbe, Richard, scholar Corpus Christi, 1572 BA; 1575 MA; fellow 1579, BD 1587; licensed to preach 1590; died 1597. According to John, in 1971, he visited the reading room of the British Museum and he located the pedigree of Richard Cobb. Also, he states a reputable London genealogist was asked to locate and translate the will of Richard Cobb which he lists an abstract which I am posting:
Public Record Office. P.C.C. Wills. Ref.: PROB. 11/90 fol.99

American Prisoners of the Revolution: Names of 8000 Men
The British used the ships at Wallabout Bay, later the site of the Brooklyn Navy Yard, for naval prisoners on this side of the Atlantic. The prisoners included men captured on American privateers, merchant ships, French, Spanish, and Dutch vessels. After April 1780, the Jersey was the receiving ship where names were entered into records.
List compiled by 'The Society Of Old Brooklynites' in 1888.*
"This list of names was copied from the papers of the British War Department. There is nothing to indicate what became of any of these prisoners, whether they died, escaped, or were exchanged. The list seems to have been carelessly kept, and is full of obvious mistakes in spelling the names. Yet it shall be given just as it is, except that the names are arranged differently, for easier reference. This list of prisoners is the only one that could be found in the British War Department. What became of the lists of prisoners on the many other prison ships, and prisons, used by the English in America, we do not know."

Hi Dee,
I have long been searching for info on Ebenezer Cobb, b. 15 Sep 1828 at Fredonia, NY, m. 16 May 1849 at Fredonia, who then moved to Platteville, WI., date unknown.
I have just now found a newspaper article re: the 50th wedding anniversary of T. E. Cobb, who I found to be Thaddeus. The article tells of three daughters, Mrs. Charles Thompson, Mrs. Bertha McQuill, and Mabel who died 'many' years ago. It goes on to say “during childhood he moved with his parents to Platteville, Wis. Although a mere boy, he had sole charge of his parents’ farm during the Civil War while his father was fighting with the union army.” Also, “Mr. And Mrs. Cobb lived at Platteville until the autumn of 1881 when they came to Iowa, settling on a farm near Correctionville, where they lived for many years.”
I'm quite sure that Ebenezer and Thaddeus were somehow related, because as a child I remember visiting Thaddeus in Correctionville with my grandmother, Rosa Cobb, daughter of Ebenezer.
If we could just find something to connect them, maybe that would help lead us to the parentage of Ebenezer and Thaddes.
Thanks for your interest and tireless work!

Hi Denise,
You probably don't remember me, but our moms are cousins.
My mom is Gloria ( Beaner). I seen your posting for information about our back ground through granny and grandpa and I have been able to find information on my grandpa Paul (one of the seven children of Sadie and Walter).I was able to go back to his great-grandfather Elias Cobb.
I found it on RootsWeb.com
I haven't been able to find out anything about granny(Sadie), but a great source for us is our grandparents and our aunts and uncles. I'm going to be calling my grandpa and Aunt Gertie. They should be able to give me more information to go on.
please send me an e-mail if you've found any more information.
