I second that suggestion, and PLEASE give some dates, even if you have to
guess. Some also don't give an area for their people, and that makes it
doubly hard to help.
Happy New Year everyone. May 2003 bring us all good results in our research.

Hi List
Just a suggestion... When looking for information on someone... Try
and give an idea what kind of information you are looking for. It will
save those who are trying to help you a lot of time in not giving you
information you already have.
Have a happy New Year

I am trying to prove out the parents of David Monroe Cobb (1825-1867) of Edgecombe Co., NC. Most family files online list his parents as Eaton Cobb and Mary Thigpen. However, my research shows these inconsistencies:
1) Eaton Cobb is not listed among the children of Edward & Winifred Cobb in Edward Cobb's will. While this is inconclusive, it does suggest that Eaton is not a son of Edward as is generally accepted.
2) John Cobb's will, proved May 1837, specifically lists son David Monroe Cobb. This will is witnessed by Eaton Cobb.
3) David named his first son John, and did not name any children Eaton, unless David E Cobb's middle name was Eaton. Naming the eldest son John suggests to me that David's father was John, not Eaton.
Does anyone have specific proof of the parentage of David Monroe Cobb? Are there two David Monroe Cobbs born within a year of one another in Edgecombe County during this period? Does anyone have proof that Eaton Cobb is a son of Edward Cobb?

I am looking for information on Thomas Benton Cobb who married Virginia Mahone. A few of their children were Mary, Pliant, and James. Any help would be appreciated.
FYI:
1903 Penrose and allied Family of Philadelphia book.
I normally would not send such emails, but since they have such a large full name index shown on the
page It might help someone pinpoint a family members whereabouts.
It is not my book, if you have questions you may can email the seller from the page below.
Maybe it would be good if the index was placed on a webpage somewhere!

Merry Christmas everyone, and may your family "expand" in the coming year. I
am browsing my bookmarks and found this, and thought I would pass it along.
This is a very good site for everything pertaining to land records of all
kinds. Let's not forget to give it to any 'newbies' to genealogy we get next
month. I learned some new things myself, and "remembered" others, ha!
Thats what I call forgetting something I learned long ago.

<< For what it's worth: The 1900 Census for the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory lists a Mays family that included a Cobb. They were living in what is now McClain County, OK. >>
<< Does anybody know if there is an index to the 1900 Oklahoma Territory or the Indian Territory? >>
Just for the record, there were two separate territories. The Oklahoma Territory encompassed that multi-county area around what is now Oklahoma City. The Indian Territory encompassed the remainder of the state.
The answer is Yes. There is a 1900 census and soundex for both territories. I do not know where you could find them on the internet.

GW Mays born 1861, MO.
Virginia born 1871, TX
Riley born 1890, Ind Terr
John A born 1897, Ind Terr
Mollie Cobb born 1887, Ind Terr
1910 Yell Co, AR we find Mrs. Ida May, with Dollie E. age 4, Robert L.
age 2, Ollie A. age 1 and Wiley P, brother of Ida in the same household.
Wiley P was 23. So in addition to the Jacob R in the 1880 census we have
at least one more child of Zach and Elmia...and I also have one son named
Leonard...I don't have dob for him.
I think Jacob R. is in SEbastian Co, AR that year with a family.
Can't seem to find Leonard so he may have died early.
Have you looked at the 1900 census record?

Hi Donna,
I know it's tough getting information, but I think this will help you out.........only because I did it to find my dad's father's parents.
Your need to order your husband's original social security card application from the Social Security Department at Baltimore, Maryland. If will show the parents names and from there you can order their applications (if they lived past, I believe, 1935, when Social Security started) and get there parents names.
I ordered my grandfather, born 1898 and it gave me his parents names of which I researched through Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com paid subscriptions. Found out alot and where to send for documents.
Hope this helps alittle......Happy Holidays and Blessings from my Family to Yours.

I'm assuming that you got an answer to your query by now but just in case, here is what I have on this line.
Ollie was dtr of William Daniel and Margaret Beasley.
Wm Daniel was son of Daniel Davenport Cobb and Matilda Goggins.
Daniel was son of Jeremiah Cobb and Elizabeth Corley.
Jeremiah's mother was named Rebecca and she m. 2nd a Simon Gentry.
That's as far as we've ever been able to get this line to go back.
Jeremiah had a brother who was called Sanders Cobb in a legal document in Edgefield Co, SC when their step father, Simon Gentry mortgaged the land that was their inheritance from their father. However, we've never been able to track that land to find out who the father was...seems there was no will or probate record!
