Is anyone tracing HARTWELL E. H. COBB?
Hartwell is in the 1830 Richland County, South Carolina census, but may
connected to some Cobbs in Pitt County, North Carolina.
In 1820, he had these folks in his household:
males:
2 under 10
1, 26-45
females:
3 under 10
1, 10-16
2, 26-45
1, over 45
The only other Cobb in Richland in 1820 is a MARY COBB, head of household,
head of household, one female over age 45 and another age 26-45.
Any help would be appreciated.

Subject: can we get Cobb back in the subject line?
Listowner: is there a way to put Cobb back in the subject line? I really
miss it.
For those of us who get dozens of emails a day, it is a big help.
Thanks for the good work you do,

Ok, I tried those links and the 'Cobb and LA' will not work that way. The
interactive one does give you the Cobb list and you can put in the phrase
yourself.
I don't know why it only opened to the particular list. It should have opened
on the 1st page where you could choose the list you want, not the last list I
entered.
As to the person who asked why we aren't getting the list name on our mail..I
have noticed this several of my lists.
Also, are all of you experiencing low mail count from your lists the last
couple of days?
Carleen
Hi Betsy,
,In the event some don't know this, I have put the link for RootsWeb where
you can enter key words and search ANY mailing list by yrs. I also went ahead
and put yours in and I came up with 7 in 2000. Its was funny that the 1st
time I only got one, so try it more than once! Hope this helps you . Union
is not far from me and my family was/is there now. Not my Cobb lines, however.

I am still looking for the parents of Louiza Jane Cobb who married
Iverson Wren Hughes in Wilkinson Co MS in Dec. of 1867. Any help would
be appreciated.
I remember a posting in the past year, I believe, of Cobbs in Louisiana
but can't find it.
I'm looking for Robert G. Cobb (b. 1838 in AL) who would have been in
Louisiana in 1900. He was older brother of my gg grandfather, Jesse
Cobb, who was living in Kimble Co, TX in 1900 after moving from Milam
Co. Texas.
Thanks,
Hi,
Found in Calhoun Co. Al. marriage of a James Cobb to Auminda E. Watson,
1852. Need to know if this might be my James H. & Betsy A. Cobb.
Would agree with our Priscilla's birth in 1853.
Thanks,
Sharon

ELBERT C. COBB
Seneca May 26 - Elbert C. Cobb died at his home below Seneca at 12:18 this
afternoon following an illness of six weeks. He had been critically ill
the past two weeks.
Mr. Cobb was a native and life-long resident of Oconee County, and prior
to his retirement was engaged in farming. He was a son of the late Ephriam
and Nancy Moore Cobb.
He was thrice married, and is survived by his last wife, Mrs. Mandy Cobb
and the following sons and daughters by the former marriages: the Rev.
Roland Cobb of the Bounty Land community, George Henry Cobb of Washington
DC, Erby Cobb of Greenville, A.L. Cobb of Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. Maude Dunlap
of Greenwood, Mrs. W.A. Palmer of Clemson, Mrs. Helen Carson of Macon,
Ga., and Mrs. W.R. Jones of Westminster; and one sister, Mrs. J.R. Suttles.
Funeral services will be held from the Walhalla Wesleyan Methodist Church
Friday at 3pm with the paster, the Rev. Mrs. J.C. Lackey and the Rev. Jack
Funderbark officing. Burial will be in West View cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers; Johnny Jones, Raymond Jones, Eugene
Cobb, Houston Cobb, Harry Palmer, and Melvin Cobb.
The body is at the home of his son the Rev. Roland Cobb, in the Bounty
Land community pending the hour of ther services with Ansel Funeral Home
in charge.
I am still stuck on Jesse Cobb whose wife was Nancy Reese/Reece. She may
have been married first to a Mullins. She had a son Jackson Kenzie when
she married Jesse. Jackson K. used Cobb as his surname. Supposedly the
Cobbs were in GA prior to moving to Franklin/Coffee County area near
Tullahoma. Does this ring a bell with anyone? Jesse Cobb died in
Franklin Co TN in Feb 1864. He is first found there in 1850 with Cobb
spelled as Kab. Three of his sons moved to Ark, first to Izard Co. --
James Pulaski Cobb who later returned to TN, George W. Cobb who is gone
by 1870 (perhaps a casualty of the war although I have not found an
enlistment for him), and the youngest son Jesse G. Cobb who lived out
his life in Ark.
I believe that Jesse Cobb was a son of a Joseph Cobb. He is not the same
man as the Jesse Cobb who married Leannah Cox even though the years of
birth and death are very close to my Jesse. A good bit of the info I
have came from a court case filed in Franklin Co after Jesse's death by
one of his sons.
Any help, leads, hints, etc., would be most appreciated.

This is off topic, however it is great information and I thought it could be
of benefit. I developed it after getting one of those messages that said I'd
get something if I forwarded it.
Before you forward that latest email about a sick child's wish or some
fabulous recipe check out the following web sites. It just might be a hoax.
Great site www.urbanlegends.com/
Great site www.truthorfiction.com
Good site www.europe.datafellows.com/news/hoax.htm
Seems to be ok www.snopes2.com/
Fair site www.nonprofit.net/hoax/default.htm
This message may be forwarded as many times as you wish, however you won't
get anything for doing it, except perhaps the satisfaction of cutting down
on some of the hoaxes being forwarded. (A good technique to use when sending
out emails to a large group of people is to use the BCC [Blind Courtesy
Copy], that way no one sees the other recipients.)
Before you go to those sites you can know that any email which promises to
give you money or gift certificates or anything for forwarding emails is a
hoax. Here is why...
Synopsis of message: Somebody will give you some money if your forward their
email some specific number of times. Remember, if something seems too good
to be true, it probably is. Also, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
A phone/beer/clothing/entertainment company will send you one of its
products free if you forward their email some number of times.
A charity will receive some money if their email is forwarded some specific
number of times
Hoaxes along these lines have been spread about Bill Gates (money,
software), Disney (vacations), IBM (computers), Miller (beer), The Gap
(clothing), Nokia and Ericsson (phone handsets).
Why are these hoaxes? It's impossible to track an email as it's forwarded.
The Internet email system works in a way which makes tracking email
forwarding impossible. For one of the hoaxes to be true, internet email
would have to do one of the following:
(a) All internet email, no matter what the starting and finishing points,
would have to pass through (or at least be registered at) a central point.
(b) Your email software would have to somehow know the starting-point of
every forwarding chain and send a message to it every time you forward that
email.
The Internet is not built around a central computer: there's no 'hub' or
'center of the net' which everything has to pass through. If someone in
Florida sends email to someone else in Florida, that email may never go
outside Florida. If someone in France emails someone in Germany, that email
is unlikely to ever go near Florida. There can be no way to count how many
times a message has moved from one person to another because there's no
collection-point for traffic information.
Hundreds of people and companies have written email software. As long as the
software conforms to the Internet standard it will be able to receive and
send email. The standard does not mention any way of noting the origin of a
message once it has been forwarded. If Alice sends an email to Bob, there's
nothing she can put in her message to order Bob's software to tell her if
Bob forwards her message. Even if the original message is sent using a
special piece of software (as one of the Microsoft versions of this hoax
suggests), there's no way of controlling what software Bob uses to read or
send his email.
This message was prepared by a Systems Engineer. Some material came from the
Urban Legends web page.
