Does anyone know anything about NICHOLSON and COBB connections in
early NC? Since I am the product of a series of NICHOLSON/COBB
marriages 50 years later in Muscogee/Chattahoochie Co., GA, I am
interested in possible earlier connections.
I found this today from Lenoir Co., NC, records. The passage concerns
primarily a land dispute in a WIGGINS family with connections in
Laurens Co., SC. I have cut several paragraphs.

Deposition of Elizabeth Nicholson 4th of Oct [1802] at home of Jesse
Cobb, Esq. at
Kinston with Robert White and Benj. Hartsfield present" after the death of
John Wiggins father of defendants Ellenor Jones and Charlotte Westbrook,
the father of the deponent married Margaret Wiggins, mother of Ellenor and
Charlotte, and there was a Bible in possession of said Margaret, the Family
Bible of said John Wiggins and birth dates of children of John and Margaret
Wiggins were written. She remembers perfectly that it said Ellenor Wiggins
was born 18th December and has always known and understood during her long
residence together, that Charlotte is younger than her sister."
Deposition of Gershom Wiggins at home of Jesse Cobb. Esq. at Kinston 4th
day Oct. ( given) with Robert White and Benj. Hartsfield present "I lived
in the family of James Nicholson after he married my mother the widow of
John Wiggins, who is father to the deponant, I have repeatedly seen the
Bible alluded to by Elizabeth Nicholson and I swear the record of ages of
my sisters is in the handwriting of my father, John Wiggins. I know Ellenor
is older than Charlotte and that my father died 18 Dec. 1767.
Deposition of Sarah Smith at house of Jesse Cobb, Esq with Robert White and
Benj. Hartsfield present 4th Oct. "heard Mrs. Margaret Nicholson, mother
of Ellenor Jones say that her daughter completed her 10th year of her age
on the day that John Wiggins, her father, died. (Signed with her mark)
Deposition of Mrs. Elizabeth Cobb sworn to at house of Jesse Cobb, Esq in
Kinston on 4th Oct. 1802 with R. White and B. Hartsfield J.P.'s. present.
"had conversation with Mrs. Margaret Nicholson the mother, I recommended
the old lady remove from off the plantation where on she then lived as her
situation was uncomfortable, their children had sold the land. The old lady
replied that she had kept the plantation because after her death the land
would belong to the children for that at the time Elleanor and Charlotte
sold the land to Spencer Caldwell they were both under age. This
declaration as to the infancy daughters at the time of executing said deed
she had heard frequently from Mrs. Nicholson".

Hi everyone,
Here's some marriages I came across that I made note of while in TN a few years ago. Maybe they'll help someone, I hope.
These are all for Hamilton County, TN:

Charles Cobb m. Lottie Roberson on Oct 20, 1886

Hi all,
Awhile back I had asked the question "Does anyone know when and on what
ship Did Henry COBB come to America?". So many responded, it was
wonderful. But, unfortunately, most of the responses came to my mailbox
and not to the list. And many people wanted to know the same info. Would
everybody be so kind to repost their info to the list? It was great stuff
and should be available to all. Thank you so much.
Anyone out there know who these unconnected Cobbs below to? You could be
a cousin of mine....
Does anyone out there have a Henry Cobb in IN or OH? Thanks.

Warren County Centenial 1827-1927 Williamsport IN..
William Cobb, whose parents settled on the old Cobb homestead when he was a
child in the early 20's, before his death in 1897, related many of his early
experiences in the early days of what is now Pine Township. The farm is
located two miles northwest of Pine Village on the old Pottawattomie Indian
trail, which led from Zachariah Cicot's trading post on the Wabash River,
where Independence is now situated, in a northwesterly direction to Parish
Grove. This farm is still in the possession of the Cobb family, the present
owner being J. T. Cobb.
Mr. Cobb related that when their family located at this place and entered the
land, there were no other settlers to the west of them, the country being
mostly a prairie, covered with ponds and sloughs, through which it was
difficult to find a passage, especially in the spring of the year, and they
thought there never would be any settlements any farther west than where they
were located. He related, that he remembered vividly when a boy, the report
would come that the Indians were coming from the northwest on the war path.
The settlers would hurriedly load their families into rude wagons with what
few belongings they could get in their wagons, and make all speed they could
to the south in an effort to reach a refuge with the friendly Kickapoo
Indians. On these flights the men with their rifles would keep a sharp
lookout to the rear. On one occasion the report came in the night that the
Indians were coming from the northwest on the war path. The settlers
hurriedly left their homes and fled to the south, and when en they reached
their refuge, they missed a little child, which had been jolted from the
wagon in their hurried night. Two men volunteered to go back and look for the
child, which they found unharmed by the roadside.

Hello fellow listers---I have hit the proverbial brick
wall on this and perhaps someone can help.
Seek ancestry of the following:
JUSTUS COBB, born Kent CT, circa 1771-1773; died
Middlebury VT, 8 June 1845. He married, Ferrisburg VT, 17
November 1794, POLLY JACQUES/JAQUAYS/JACKWAYS, probable
daughter of Joseph and Hope (North[r]up)
Jacques/Jaquays/Jackways, born probably South Kingston
RI, circa 1774-1776; died Middlebury VT, 26 March 1859.
Justus Cobb was in Brandon VT (1791), New Haven VT (1812)
and Vergennes VT (1816). He was a veteran of the War of
1812, for which both he and his wife were awarded a
pension and bounty land.
They had three known children, and possibly others:
Justus (married Maria A. Powers), Miranda (married Aretas
Abbott), and Polly (married Zenas Abbott).
Justus may in some way be related to a John Cobb of Kent
CT and/or Abel Cobb of Warren CT.
Any help appreciated.

Here is some information I was able to find in the 1910 Oklahoma census on
my great grandfather, Charles Cobb. I hope someone may find it useful, and
I hope that maybe someone may be able to provide me with more information as
well.
>From what I could decipher of the census takers penmanship, (as bad as my
handwriting) his middle initial was L. I checked it against other names on
the same sheet that started with F, T, and L. From this I would say it was
L.
Age at last birthday: 28
Number of years present marriage: 6
State of birth: Missouri
State of father's birth: Indiana
State of mother's birth: Indiana
Occupation: Farmer
Wife's name: Julia M. (again had to decipher middle initial)
Daughters included Myrtle 4, Eva 2, and Iva (my grandmother who was born in
1910, the year of this census).
Looking for family of: Callie Barnet Cobb
