Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi all,
Just picked up the digest regarding the disgusting stuff sent to the
list and all the replies.
Doesn;t the list owner have to monitor what is going on? Can't this
sort of stuff be stopped before it gets here?
Has anyone worked out who we should complain to if its not rootsweb?
Debs
Early a.m. I forwarded a message to this address that came thru
announcing a porno site. The reason that I did this was that I wanted
someone to know that there was a problem and did not know where else to
send the request. Later this morning my husband helped me find a site on
rootsweb to request help. I have sent an email to a Rootsweb volunteer
who will hopefully send it on to the appropriate dept so that this stuff
can be stopped. Sorry for any problems or stress my attempt at resolving
this may have caused you. Is there anything else we can do?

Complaining to the list (cobb@rootsweb) gets you nothing because they too
were victims.
You should always complain to the source.
If you look at the message address where the message supposedly originated,
usually it will be a common carrier like aol or some other ISP.
They have addresses for abuse, usually "abuse(a)aol.com" for example.
You forward your complaint to THEM. Which generally does no good either
because the rude imbecile who sent the abusive mail in the first place faked
the address.
BUT, the ISP can usually trace it back to the true owner.
Just remember that when you reply with abuse of your own to all of us, you
are kind of doing the same thing. I did the same thing you didonce and got
LOTS of unkind replies. I was very sorry and had not meant to spam everyone
all over again.
I understand your predicament and hope everyone will be kind enough not to
reflame you (and thus perhaps everyone else on the list) again
Accidentally been there and done that too

I thought the following information would be helpful to some Cobb family
members. If you think you have a connection with the Cobbs in Mountain Grove
cemetery (these are the most direct relatives) then most likely we are related
in some way. I would love to hear from you. I am sure that we are related to
the other Cobb family members found in the other cemeteries as well.
Note: if you need directions to these cemeteries please email me.
Hope this helps. Gail Boyle, LaPlata, Maryland

Seeking any info on the ancestry and/or siblings and/or spouse of MaryAnn
COBB. For some time, the EDENS researchers have been speculating that
MaryAnn's spouse was David EDENS. Now it has come to light that MaryAnn's
spouse was probably Joseph EDENS ... 13 years her junior.
Any info appreciated.
