Hello my fellow COBB cousins:
Since we're trying to liven up the list, here's my COBB ancestry:
I descend from Bryant COBB (1795-1864), who first appears in the 1820
census of Telfair Co, GA, as a single young man. I have not been able to
connect him to any other COBB family. He lived the remainder of his life
in Telfair Co, GA. He was the only Cobb in Telfair Co, GA, until his
children matured. Supposedly he was born in NC. There were COBBs in nearby
Dooly and Tattnall counties; but I have been unable to make any connection.
Let me hear from you if you are a descendent of any of the Dooly/Tattnall/
Telfair Co, GA COBBs. Thanks.

Hi,
I'm new to the list and would like to post my only known Cobb ancestor
in hopes that I can connect with someone.
My 3rd great grandmother is Sally(or possibly Sarah) Cobb, b. 12 April
1787, d. 17 January 1870; m. 4 August 1805 to Amasa Wood. Ch: Almira,
Alonzo, Amelia, Eveline, Nancy Jane(my 2nd great grandmother), and Achsa
B.
I believe Sally Cobb and Amasa Wheeler were married Oswego Co. NY.
Their children were all born near Palermo in Oswego Co. Amasa's family
were from Essex Co., Mass, Pompey and Palermo NY. So the Cobb's must
have connected in one of those places.
Would like to hear from anyone with this Sally/Sarah Cobb in their line.

Tracey,
I for one didn't take it any other way than the way it was intended -
simply as a gentle reminder to contribute to the list in order to keep
it alive. I am amazed that some moaned - life's too short to worry
about things like that.

Tracey, I agree with Debs and think most others do also!

Debs
Hey guys,
There have been a couple of comments made privately about my request for
contributions for the lists.
1. NO ONE has to contribute for any of these lists to stay around. The last
posting certainly was not meant as a ultimatum...it was just an email to
raise funds for RootsWeb.
2. I am NOT a owner of RootsWeb. I know it's confusing. I am the "owner" of
this list and several others but really the title ought to be "list
manager." I just started these lists and I try to keep the bad addresses to
a minimum to avoid extra strain on the server.
3. I receive NO money from RootsWeb. In fact, I just sent them $100 as my
contribution. :)
I hope that clears up a couple of things for folks. I know, it's kind of
like magic that these wonderful emails appear in your box but there really
is "a man behind the curtain" so to speak. :)
Thanks!

Cobb was one of the wealthiest men in Bryan County at the time of his
death. He left each of his children an allotment of land.

GEO. S. COBB, PIONEER, DIES TUESDAY MORNING
Geo. S. Cobb died at the Durant Hospital at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning,
having been taken there in a serious condition Saturday night, where an
emergency operation was performed in a hope of prolonging life.
The funeral occurred in Caddo Wednesday at the home of J.C Hogan,
conducted by Rev. Geo. E. Tyson, paster of the Methodist church.
Mr. Cobb was a pioneer of this country, coming from North Texas some
thirty-three years ago. He was 84 years of age at the time of his
death. He had engaged in farming, and acquired a large holding from
time to time, which required his time and attention. He was a member of
the Methodist church, with which he united in early manhood.
Mr. Cobb is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J.C. Hogan, and a large
number of grandchildren.

MRS. COBB DIES
Mrs. George S. Cobb died at Sherman Sunday evening at 8 o'clock
following an operation which was made in the hope of prolonging her
life. The remains were brought to Caddo Monday noon and laid to rest in
Caddo Cemetery Tuesday morning at ten o'clock. Funeral services were
held at the Methodist church conducted by Rev. Naylor.
Mrs. Cobb was the wife of George S. Cobb had lived the age of 68 years,
was beloved of all who knew her. She was a member of the Methodist
church and was active in its work. She was a good wife and mother.
Deceased is survived by several children: Mrs. John Hogan; Mrs. Joe
Carraway and Simon S. Cobb.
The funeral was attended by a large number of friends and relatives.
Bro. Naylor pronounced a beautiful and comforting eulogy. Bank of
flowers attested the esteem in which she was held by home folk.
The following relatives of Mrs. Cobb were here from out of town
attending her funeral:
E. M. Sanders, Silo, OK, brother
Mrs. M. Ellison, Sherman, TX, sister
Doc, Edgar, Jeff and Major Harrison and wives, and Mrs. Phelps and Mrs.
Brown of Brown, OK; Mr. and Mrs. Damron, Miss Grace, Berry and C. Page
of Sherman; H. Astin of Valley View, OK; Mr. and Mrs. Will Doss, High,
TX; C. L. Cobb, Longview, TX; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Aston, Valley View, TX.
1900 Indian Territory Census, Choctaw Nation, Twp. 5, SR 10 East, SD 73,
ED 183, Caddo, Bryan Co., OK dated 6 July 1900
Simon S. Cobb is listed as married for 7 years, and there are three
grandchildren listed that must be his:
Claud, b. Apr 1894 in TX, 6 YOA; Nina C., b. July 1896 in TX; George D.,
b. July 1899 in Indian Territory
The parents are listed as both having been born in TX for all three
children.
Then there is a Buler B. Cobb, listed as daughter-in-law to George C.
Cobb, father of Simon Cobb, white female, born Oct 1884 in AR, 16 YOA,
married 1 year, with one child, still living.
I am making the assumption, as there are no spouses listed for either of
these individuals, and I am unaware of any other surviving children of
George Seaborn Cobb and Mary Frances Saunders Cobb, that Buler is the
spouse of Simon Cobb, married one year, in Indian Territory, and that
George D. Cobb, b. July 1899 in IT, is their son. Simon Cobb may have
been previously married in TX, in approximately 1893, and had the two
older children. I can't find anything to support another assumption, as
both these individuals are listed as married, not widowed, and there are
no other individuals listed, other than George S. Cobb, Mary F. Cobb,
Edna Hoge (Simon's sister) and Charlie (Charleen) Hoge (Edna's daughter
by her marriage to a James Hogue, deceased at this time), and Ethel Cobb
(another sister). However, Edna should have been listed as a widow, so
it is possible that there is a deceased daughter-in-law and a deceased,
unknown at this time, brother of Simon, Edna and Ethel, as Mary F. Cobb
is listed as having born eight children, with only three surviving at
the time of this census.
Notes for RALPH ROE COBB:
I am assuming, as there is a child, Ralph Roe Cobb, b. 26 Aug 1903, d.
08 Jun 1904, buried in Caddo Cemetery who is listed as the son of S.S.
Cobb and E.B. Cobb, that this is the child of Simon and "Buler", as
listed in the census. I have attached that child to these parents, as I
have no reason, at least at this time, to believe he was the child of
another woman who was married to Simon Cobb.

Hey folks,
Things have been a little slow on the lists lately so I thought I would
encourage you guys to dig through your files a bit and let's start posting
some information. I don't mind if it's your brick wall or if it is a list
of marriages of the surname we are working on! Remember, one piece of paper
that doesn't help you just might be the clue someone else needs to leap
over their wall!!!!
