Hi Everyone,
I know someone had contacted me saying they were working on my line, but
I seem to have lost the message. So, I will post them again:

Frederick Kysar
Richard Cobb (born 26 Jan 1818)
Sally Cobb (born 3 Aug 1820)
Any help would be appreciated.

Ann,
Colby as a German name is probably just that, Colby or Kolby. Cobb is
an English name, and the English "homeplace" of at least parts of the
family is known through information on Ambrose Cobb.
Have you done much German research? It is certainly possible to do,
because I have had lots of experience (nor so successfully) reading the
old German script.
Good luck!
Janet
I seem to remember that Red Hill is on the border between Madison and
Marshall Co., AL - not far from Blount Co. and Birmingham, too. I'm
surprised to see so many COBBs listed as going to AR and yet I don't know
of them. My COBB is William D. COBB b. 1818 in Lincoln Co., NC, married
1841 to Jane HILLHOUSE in Cherokee Co., GA, d. 1873 in Perry/Conway Co.,
AR. In 1850 William and Jane were in Walker Co., GA, started for AR after
that, but supposedly were in MS for a short while. I don't believe they
were ever in AL, but not sure.
Sure would like it if any of you COBB researchers could hand me William's
parents' names. :-)

I have , what I think is the same Cobb line as you do. There are a couple
of differences though.
Ambrose Patrick Cobb b:22 February 1817 in N.C. d: Brown County Indiana
m: Sarah Ann (Sally) Matney b: 11 February 1854 in ? d: 13 November 1836
Catherine Cobb
Elias Cobb m: Martha Willie
Elizabeth Cobb m: ? Workman
Hugh Uriah Cobb
James Cobb m: Elizabeth ?
Ambrose Homer Cobb b: 28 February 1846 in Brown County, Indiana
m: Rebecca Anne Lee on 28 October 1864
Henry Calvin Cobb b: 10 August 1858 d: 7 February 1899
m: Angiline Elizabeth Martin
If this looks like a hit to you, I can provide continued information on
Ambrose Homer (complete) and Henry Calvin Cobb (partial).
Do you have any information on the parents of Ambrose Cobb b:1774??? I am
traceing this line and would like to work with you. Unless I am mistaken,
together we could take this line to 1324 AD.
Dean DeSelms in San Diego.
Mary Ann,
I am not able to get to my Cobb genealogy information at this time, but
my memory says that I did find our Cobb family in Caswell County NC at
one time. I will print your message and save it until I can get to the
Cobb records and will contact you again at that time.

Ambrose Cobb was in Owen County IN in 1830; Brown County IN 1840-1850.
This was the last census date on Ambrose. His son, Ambrose P. Cobb was
in Brown County IN in 1840 and by 1850 he was in Carroll County
Arkansas. Then by 1860 he came into Webster County MO and by 1870 he
went into Ozark County MO. Still there 1880.
I don't know when he died, some say he came into Oklahoma and died
there.

Hello Marie,
I think Red Hill is in Franklin Co.AL., but maybe not. I am not
familiar w/ it. (It is not in Jefferson, Fayette, Walker, or
Tuscaloosa Counties, the ones I'm most familiar with.) I'll check it
when I get time.
I need to know some time frame for your Will Cobb in order to
place him. This is a name in my COBB family (both Bill & Will). Uncle
Marion Cobb, my Dad's great uncle (& grandad by adoption) had a brother
named Will & there are some younger Cobbs by that name. Uncle Marion
& Uncle Will's father was William Cobb (called Bill) who was b. 1813 TN
and was s/o David Cobb.
David Cobb moved to Ark. c1839 & I have had very little
success finding him or his family. Yours may well be kin. The only
children we know are my Bill Cobb & one sister, Anna. Anna md. Robert B.
Earnest in Walker Co. & moved to Ark. same time David Cobb did.
Robert & Anna went to Dallas Co., which became Calhoun Co., Ark &
they are buried there. David is on 1840 Monroe Co., Ark census.
The other Ark. connection is that Uncle Dave & Buck Cobb (Dad's
grandfather) both went to Ark as young men. Both are buried out
there. Two of Buck's daughters are in their 90s & still living in Ark.
Dave has derscendents there also. Dave & Buck are brothers of Marion
& Will, all sons of William Cobb & Lucinda Thacker of Walker Co.,AL
When did your Cobbs go to Ark.? And where did they settle?
I am unfamiliar w/ McHaffeys. I really know little about Blount Co.
past 1824-25. My Dunns were in early Blount Co., AL Territory records
as were a few other of my families. However, Walker Co. was formed
Dec. 1823 & Fayette Co. in Dec. 1824, in part from Blount Co. So,
they really were never in what is now Blount Co. One of the Dunn
brothers lived in what is now Cullman Co. (at town of Old Baltimore.
He was a County Judge in Blount Co., AL Terr.) My families are early
settlers of Walker & Tuscaloosa Counties, AL. Also, in the nearby &
adjoining parts of E. Fayette Co. & SW Jefferson County. Those I am
very familiar with & if you have any connections there, I'll be glad
to help you. I also have a few families from Bibb Co (who migrated to
Walker).
Let me know who your Cobbs are. I have voluminous files & may be able
to place them.

Does anyone have any information on Ralph and William Cobb,
sons of Ambrose Cobbs, Jr. of Lincoln Co., NC. Ralph & William
married in Lincoln Co., then are in records of nearby Spartanburg Dist.
SC from 1780s thru early 1800s. I believe my David COBB was William's
son. Any information on these would be appreciated. William married
an ABBOTT (per Spartanburg will records) but his bride's name was
omitted from marr. bond (per printed records). Does anyone know
anything about this family?
My David COBB went to TN from SC, then was in Blount & Walker Co.
AL records by 1820 (land patent 1823, Co. militia muster roll, etc.)
I believe he was the same David Cobbs who was Sgt.in Col. John
Alston's Reg't. in a Spartanburg Co. in War of 1815.
Any information appreciated, & I will be glad to share what I know
of the a Ambrose Cobb line.

I just signed onto the Cobb list. I am looking for information on the Jesse
and Asa Cobb who appear in Roane Co. TN records in the early 1800's. I need
to find out if this Jesse and Asa Cobb are one in the same as my ancestors
Jesse and Asa or if they are a different set.
According to a biography written about my ancestor Jesse Cobb, in Fentress
Co. TN, his family travelled from South Carolina through Georgia and Asa
settled in Muscle Shoals Alabama. Jesse, after service in the War of 1812,
moved from Alabama and settled in Fentress Co. TN. The Biography mentions
Jesse was a cousin of Howell Cobb, govenor of Georgia.
Any clarification would be appreciated.

These families lived in the following counties:

TN:Fentress,Morgan
I have never been able to link my ARCHIBALD Cobb to Ambrose, but a daughter
of Ambrose (Barbara) married into the same Abernathy family that Arcibald's
daughter MYRAH did, only a generation or 2 apart.

I am new to the Cobb list. My Colby ( Ludwig and Caroline )family is very
difficult to find. I wonder if Cobb could be a form of Colby. I know names
were changed as people entered America. My Colbys came from Germany 1874-73
to Elkhart Indiana where their son Charles was born after three years they
moved to Scottville Michigan. If anyone has answers for me I would
appreciate hearing from you Thanks Ann
Thanks, Karen, for the information.
I, too, am a descendant of Ambrose, but I don't have the line details to
tell you where we diverge. My Cobbs followed the same route, ended up
in Georgia (Rome), and moved to Alabama in my grandparent's generation
because they owned lumber mills and there was ample lumber there with a
river to move it and equipment.

Are you in touch with Regina Roper? Mrs. George Marshall?
I have a good bit on the Ambrose line. I do not tie to it that I
know of...
How did James H fit in?
From Richard and Sybil Sheets to Ambrose and Ann White to Robert and
Elizabeth Thorpe to Ambrose and Elizabeth Pinkett to who???

Hi guys,
RootsWeb has just added a new feature for the listowners to use. I will be
adding a "list tagline" which will show up on all the mail from the list. I
didn't want anyone to get confused when they started showing up on the
postings. They will be similar to what Larry Stephens is using on all the
state lists.
BTW, due to a death in the family, I'm running even futher behind on
replying to messages. I'll try to sit down tonight and answer mail. Please
don't feel like I'm ignoring anyone! :)

Hello:
Thought I would pass on knowledge of a really good book I found on the
"COBB" family. It begins with John Cobb born @ 1300 England.
This Cobb family filters down to one AMBROSE COBB born in Kent Co.,
England and migrates to the Virginia Colony. Luckily my Cobb family
descended from this branch of the Cobb family. My Cobbs drifted into
South Carolina and then into Georgia into Hart Co. I descend from
James H. Cobb(1799--1876) and Mary Sullivan Cobb (1808--1886). Their
daughter Sarah Ann Cobb (born 1837--1886) married W. Milton McConnell.
This book is an excellent book, referenced, maps etc. Done with help of
professional genealogist in England. I obtained book directly from
author.
Publishing company's address is;
Durant Publishers
1208 Tatum Drive
Alexandria, Virginia 22307
The Author of the book is John E. Cobb, Jr.
The copyright was 1985.
Just passing along hopefully helpful information

Cobb Descendant
I am looking for ancestors/connections among the following Cobb family members:
Capt Lemuel Cobb (b.Feb 2, 1770). He married Abigail Strout.
Anna Cobb (b.Apr 4, 1776). She married James Strout.
William Cobb (b.Mar 11, 1772). He married Hannah Strout.
note: The above three Strouts were brothers/sisters. Their parents were
Daniel Strout and Mary Delano. The three marriages were all in Cape
Elizabeth, ME.
Also interested in the following:
Hannah Cobb. She married Joseph Strout on May 7, 1739.
Dorcas Cobb. She married Charles Edwin Strout on Mar 25, 1861 in Portland,ME
She was born Feb 17, 1845. Died Dec 28, 1893 in New
Gloucester, ME
Joanna Cobb. She married Daniel Small Jan 27, 1763 in Falmouth, ME.
I am hoping to find the relationships between these various Cobb family members.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Ron Strout
According to Samuel Walker's will (proved Jul 1798 Caswell Co., NC).
His daughter Elisabeth WALKER was married to a COBB.
Could this have been NOAH COBB?
I'm interested in contacting Cobb researchers that might know about the
family that lived in Caswell Co. Samuel Walker's land was along Moon's
creek.
