My grandmother Viola Chesser/Williams/Porter/Cobb (&
maybe a couple more names) was married to a Cobb
sometime after 1922 and before 1942. She lived in Ft.
Worth and I never remember meeting him. I don't know his
given name or whether he died or they separated. Does
anyone have a Cobb that married a Viola during those years?

Dear Cobb researchers,
For years I have tried to find the ancestry of RENDERSON COBB, my
husband' g-g-grandfather.
We have this data, some of which is from the pension papers for a
pension for his service in the Confederate Army.
He states he was born October 26, 1820, in EDGECOMBE County, No.
Carolina. He is not on an 1850 census I have found for No. Carolina,
but I do pick him up after marriage, in SUMTER County, Georgia.
He married Elizabeth SALTER, daughter of James Salter, of Cobb county.
They are buried in the Cobb-Salter Cemetary, Sumter County, near
Americus, Georgia.
They had these COBB children:
Josephine Celesta Cobb, marr. Evan T. Smith; Children.
James Renderson Cobb, marr.Annie Lee Snellgrove; Children.
Robert E. Lee Cobb, twin;marr. Lonie Turner. Children.
Sarah Ella Cobb, twin; marr. Robert Smith. Children.
Emma Cobb; marr. Louis/Lewis Lee. Children.
2 still born. Not known
Renderson COBB enlisted with 28th Regiment of Bonards Georgia Battlion
of Volunteers; Company C., and served through the war, and was at
Appomattox Courthouse ,with Lee, at the surrender.
Who were his parents in North Carolina, Edgecombe at birth, but may have
moved elsewhere before he left home.
Thanks for any help.

Below is my Cobb problem:
The problem concerns Cobbs in Chattahoochee/Muscogee Co (or
Columbia, Houston or Washington Co,) Ga? Many of these people went west
to Hunt Co, TX in 1880's.
I also have the following Chattahoochee Co, Ga families, many
of whom, or their descendnats, went to Hunt Co, too: Shipp, Holliman,
Dodson, Howell, Crawford, Phelps, Farr
Would like to hear from anyone descended from any of these
Cobbs.
Note: The names to the right of each entry is for the county of birth.
Muscogee Co, Ga is one of the few, anywhere that did this.

the birthplace of Baldwin for James M is incorrect)
James M Cobb married Elizabeth McNorton in Muscogee Oct 29, 1844
There are annual returns for James M Cobb made on the return for
3 minor children, Sarah A J, Emily A and William F Cobb,
received from W N McNaughton, Admr of James McNaughton, dec'd 9
May 1860.
(This would be Elizabeth McNorton's father died and has left
something to her children. The other children, born before the
Cobb-McNorton marriage, obviously belong to an earlier wife.)

Nancy and Bejamin F Cobb are too old to be children of James and
Eliza Brooks. BUT... they do "fit" into the census household
makeup of James M Cobb.
As a guess, I would say, Lemuel Guy's first wife, Rebecca was
a sister to James M Cobb. This would make Nancy and Benjamin
first cousins fo Eliza.

Elizabeth Morrison, born 1765 (unknown place) died about 1830. The
first mention I have found is the marriage in 1787. Next is notations
of him living on his farm in present day Kanawha County, WVa.
According to the dates, he was 42 when they married.....it has to be
surmised that this is not a first marriage. My imagination gets free
rein with this one....did he come here with the British and stay? If
so.....did he leave a family behind? Did he have another family some
where in the US? Considering the usual age for first marriages, he
probably had 4 or 5 children, maybe more. But, if so......where are
they? There is some speculation that Fleming Cobb was either his oldest
child or a younger brother, but I have seen nothing that verifies this.
Any help out there? Alice Rogers

Hi guys,
I just checked the lists and found that we have picked up a few more
members. Let's see if we have any cousins lurking out there! How about
everyone sending information on the person they are stuck on? Or, anything
about the surname. If you get the chance dig through your files and see if
you have copies of any records to add to the discussion.
On the Langley list, we've even had member transcribing all the census
indexes and sending them in. It's a wonderful contribution and I really
appreciate it!
So, how about it, let's find those cousins!
Happy Huntin',

Does anyone claim this R. Henry COBB, m Mattie Fredonia NICHOLSON, 12 Jan.
1897, possibly in Kemper Co., MS, or possibly AL or GA, son Howard Lester
COBB, b 1898.
Mattie's mother was also a COBB, Mary Hasseltine (Hassie) COBB NICHOLSON
(my ggrandmother) of Cusseta, GA, m 21 Nov. 1871 George Thomas (Tom)

COBB, whose name, unfortunately I am not sure of, but he died ca 1883 in

From Odessa Missouri History:
THE REV. THOMAS M. COBB - 1842
The Rev. Thomas M. Cobb was born in Sni-a-Bar township, Lafayette county on
Oct. 17, 1842, and was the fifth of 13 children of Polly Peters and James M.
Cobb. His parents came to LaFayette county MO from Tennessee in April 1835.
After attending negihborhood subscription schools and public schools, some
in an old-fashioned log cabin, he entered Chapel Hill academy in 1860. When
the academy was closed because of the War Between the States, Mr. Cobb
enlisted in the Southern army in April, 1861. He was wounded at Baker's
Creek, Miss. and Kenesaw Mountain, Ga., and captured at Vicksbkurg, Miss.
before the city was surrendered to General Grant. Cobb surrendered April 17,
1865, at Louisville, Ky.
Mr. Cobb was licensed to preach May 5, 1866, and served several Methodist
churches as well as serving as chaplin of the Missouri House of
Representavies and the state penitentiary.
Mr. Cobb married twice, his first wife being Mary M. Wagoner, who lived only
a few months. Jan. 20, 1868, he married Cammie Houck, daughter of Solomon
Houck. Their children were Helen C., Thomas M. Jr., Mary C., Bess C., and
William Benson Cobb. Upon retirement from his regular pastoral work, Mr.
Cobb served as chaplan at the Confederate home at Higginsville MO. His home
was in Lexington, Mo. where he remained until his death, on 5/8/1925.

Subject: Naphta COBB
Hello, Betty
Thank you for all your postings of various Cobbs you have been studying. I
am interested in this "NAVNIA COBB" you mention below. Do you have any more
on this person? Was Navnia male or female? I have a NAPHTA COBB who married
a collateral on my COBB line in Rockingham Co NC and adjacent Caswell Co NC,
and I don't know who his parents were. His unusual forename puzzled us for a
while, and then I discovered that Naphtali (Douay Bible spelling Nephtali)
was the sixth son of Jacob, by Rachel's handmaiden (Genesis 30: 7-8). Here
is Naphta Cobb among his Cobb in-laws:
