Hi!
I am searching for the famiily of Thomas COBB. I have no dates for this
man--he married Pricilla (sic) SMITH in Owen County, KY on unknown date. They
had nine children and I only have the birthdates of thier last five children,
so can only guess that Thomas and Pricilla were married around 1800. Here are
their children:
1. Ann COBB
2. Henry COBB
3. May COBB
4. John COBB
5. Lucy COBB b Mar 1810
6. Reuben COBB b Oct 1812
7. Jane COBB Oct 1815
8. Richard Lucas COBB b Jan 1818 Owen County KY
9. Sally COBB b Aug 1820
Richard Lucas COBB married Sally Zerviah Alice BACON (b Tioga County PA Feb
1822) on Feb 12, 1840 in Jennings County IN. Their children:
1. Mary Elvira COBB b Jan 1841 Paris IN
2. Theresa COBB b Dec 1842 Redding MI
3. Josephine COBB b Jan 1845 Marion IN m Alexander Overton CALLENDER Feb 1864
4. Umphrey COBB b May 1847 Paris IN
5. Luella COBB b Jan 1854 Rockport IN
6. William Thomas COBB b Jul 1851 Indianapolis IN
They must have moved around a lot!
Anyone with information to share, I would like to hear from you.

Here is another Noah of the same vintage but apparently a different spouse
and children. I believe that I have a copy of this will but am away from
home, baby sitting, but would be glad to locate it and send it along at a
later date if anyone is interested.
My ancestry descemds from Jesse COBB, but here is the info I have on this Noah:
Individual Summary - 30 May 1997
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Noah COBB
Sex: Male
Individual Facts
Birth 1730
Death 1808 in St.Davids Dist., Caswell co., N.Carolina (age 78)
Burial in Caswell Co., NC
Notes
General: Noah Cobb of Horsleys Creek, Caswell County, North Carolina. The
177? Tax list of Caswell County (the year Caswell was formed from Orange
County) shows John Cobb with 224 acres, Henry Cobb with 501 acres, and Noah
Cobb with 209 acres, all in St. Davids District.
Noah Cobb entered land in Caswell County, North Carolina, on 26 August 1778,
501 acres on Horsleys Creek, and on the following 17th March 1779, Henry
Cobb entered by land grant 628 acres on Stoney Fork of Moores Creek.
The State census of North Carolina for 1786 shows John Cobb and Henry Cobb
in Caswell District, northwest part of Caswell County, with Noah Cobb as
living in St.Davids District in the southwest part of Caswell County. John
and Henry moved to Pendleton District, South Carolina, but Noah remained in
Caswell County, N.Carolina, where he died in 1808.
The will of Noah Cobb, dated 20 February 1808, probated December Court 1808,
Caswell County Will Book F., page 3, shows wife Elizabeth, and children:
Samuel, James, William, Henry, Ebenezar, Nancy Page, Levi, Matthew, and Noah.
Does this make three Noah's in Caswell at about the same time?
Hopeful to straighten this out as well as to find data to support Ancestry
of the COBB's of NC.

Hello
Are any of you researching the LIVINGSTON COBB who appears in the 1820 US
Census in Lawrenceburg, Franklin Co KY? This is the county that Frankfort is
in. I descend from a later LIVINGSTON G. COBB (c1827-1863) of Caswell Co NC
who died at Gettysburg, and I am wondering if there is a connection. Thank you.

I'm looking for the ancestors of two brothers: Isaiah Lindsey Cobb b.
1797 and Benjamin Washington Cobb b. 1798 in Georgia. I have been told
that their father was James Cobb, who may have fought in the
Revolutionary War, but I have been unable to find anything at all about
James, who was born around 1764 - in Georgia or Virginia. I am actually
descended from both Isaiah's and Benjamin's lines of Cobbs when second
cousins married, and I would be grateful for any information that might
help me identify their parents.

Hello, Everyone and especially Regina Roper,
Here are the two NOAH COBBs I have in Caswell Co NC records who would seem
to be descendants of the older NOAH COBB who died in 1808 in that county; in
a separate posting, I've listed for you all his descendants who are known to
me. I am certain that there are many, many others, and two of them are
probably these two NOAH COBBs.
Regina, here is the one who seems to have an awfully good forename match to
your COBBs that you posted the other day:
1 COBB Noah
b c1781 Caswell Co NC
m 1stly 23 Oct 1812 Caswell Co NC to Nancy WALKER

Children of Noah & Jane:

m 1stly 17 Nov 1863 Caswell Co NC to Martha F. WALKER
Child of Archibald & Martha:
3 COBB Catharine ("Katie") b c1864 NC

3 COBB Lester W. b 27 May 1882 NC
2 COBB BENJAMIN Y. [Regina, could this stand for YOUNG?]
b c1844 Caswell Co NC
m c1877 Nancy __________
Child of Benjamin & Nancy:
3 COBB Sarah B. b c1879 NC
Regina, this Noah COBB is of course not old enough to be the father of your
"Archable", but I nominate him as a good candidate to be a brother of your
Arch. I hope some other list subscribers can tell us who their father was!
The 1808 testator NOAH COBB's three sons SAMUEL COBB, JAMES COBB and HENRY
COBB all could have had sons the right age and all could have named sons
NOAH COBB after their father; my guess is that at least two of them did do this.
Now here is the other unplaced NOAH COBB, who is of similar age - I suspect
that both are grandsons of the NOAH COBB who died in 1808.
1 COBB Noah
b c1788
c 1857
m 29 Jan 1820 Caswell Co NC to Phoebe LOVELACE
Children of Noah & Phoebe, all born between 1820 and 1832:
2 COBB Andrew Jackson
2 COBB George Washington
2 COBB Louisa Ann
2 COBB Elizabeth Caroline
2 COBB Andaluzia [sic]
All five of these children of Noah & Phoebe COBB were baptised on 11 April
1832 at Bethesda Presbyterian Church in Caswell Co NC; many other
descendants of the NOAH COBB who died in 1808 also attended that church.
All documented additions and corrections are welcome! I have much info on
other COBBs of Caswell Co NC and Rockingham Co NC and am happy to exchange info.

Hello, Cobb Researchers, and especially Regina Roper
Here is one COBB family which has many descendants in North Carolina,
Tennessee and elsewhere. I hope this helps some of you, and if anyone can
tell me who this NOAH COBB's father was, I'd be very grateful! Regina, I
can't find the right branch of this tree for you, but I'd be very surprised
if you don't find several arrows in this family pointing to your "ARCHABLE"
COBB with YOUNG connections; we can offer you the forenames MILTON, BENJAMIN
and MALINDA also. I have two other NOAH COBBs, one of whom might prove to be
particularly interesting for you, but I can't tell where they fit into this
larger NOAH COBB family, although I feel sure that they do fit somewhere.
I'll do them in a separate posting, since I don't know where to add them on
this one. I have taken the following from census records, wills and marriage
bonds; where I have not found documentation, I have indicated.
I'd like to stress that all documented additions and corrections are very,
very welcome indeed. Lin

I have seen an assertion that the father of this eldest NOAH COBB was a
HENRY COBB Sr who was born in about 1730 in GERMANY and who died on 23
February 1802 in Caswell Co NC; do any of you have anything to prove that
this is so or anything to prove that it is not so? I tend to doubt it,
mainly because I think that this NOAH COBB who died in 1808 was himself born
in about the 1730s. I have found no birth record and have no proof, but I
have found this Noah's son JAMES COBB in the 1850 US Census in Caswell Co NC
AGE 80 YEARS - so James was born in about 1770, and there is nothing to
indicate that he was Noah's eldest son, although he may have been. If this
Germany assertion is right, then that emigrant "HENRY COBB SENIOR" was a
grandfather at age 40 AT THE LATEST. It is certainly possible, of course,
but I'm not sure if it did happen. What do you guys think?

If any of you on the CObb List live near Knoxville, can you possible assist
me with a gravestone photo of the grave of Archibald CObb??
According to the Knox Co Genealogy SOciety, he is buried in a marked grave
in the Cobb Family Cemetery off Couch Mill Road.
The cemetery has been described and surrounded by an iron fence (that
Archibald forged himself)
His dates are 4 August 1777--12 Jan 1864.
Glad to pay you.

I am very very hopeful that someone will be able to help me with my
husband's Cobb line. It has been a brick wall for 5 years. I am almost
certain that Archibald is connected in some way to Ambrose Cobb. Here is his
family group data. If you recognize ANYONE of ANYTHING please help me!!!!
Archibald ("Archable") COBB was born 4 August 1777 place unknown and died 12
January 1864 in Knox Co Tenn. He is interred in a cemetery the Historical
Society called "Cobb Family Cemetery III" off Couch Mill Road near the
Clinch River Beaver Creek.
His first wife and the mother of his children is unknown. His 2nd wife was
named REBECCA; he married her 3-3-1829. She was born 1780 and died 5/17/1858
and is interred with him.
Supposedly there were 10 children; I have only data on EIGHT,
1. Sylvester Young Cobb born 27 May 1803 Knox Co TN
no other data
2. MIRAH COBB born 10 Nov 1806 Knox Co TN died 27 Dec 1893 Rhea Springs Rhea
CO TN married 18 Dec 1819 in Blount Co TN BERRY ABERNATHY
3. Augerona Cobb born 12 Nov 108 Knox Co TN died 15 Oct 1832 Perry Co MO
interred York Chapel Cem; married Berry's brother Clayton D Abernathy on 24
Oct 1826 in Knox Co TN
4. Eleazor Cobb b 8 May 1811 in Knox Co died 29 Jan 1887 in Knox, married 10

Cowan in Blount Co TN
8. Samuel Douthitt Cobb b 4 June 1820 Knox Co died ??
married 11 Nov 1846 Mildred Howard in Blount
Th e1830 Knox Co TN census lists 3 CObbs: Archibald, Benjamin and Milton
1830 also a SYlvester CObb in Blount...do not know if this is ARchibald's
son or another family member
Other CObb marriages in Knox Co that may belong to these children:
Thomas Cobb m Hannah Tallent 7-1-1892
Joseph CObb m Bettie Gallagher 1-9-1876
Joseph CObb m Cordie Simpson 9-24-1891
Sil V Cobb m Mollie Morris 1-16-1886
Samuel D Cobb m Nancy Jane DIckey 3-20-1856
Samuel D Cobb m Flora Green 7-10-1896
An interesting thing about the CObbs here is that an earlier marriage
occurred between an Abernathy and a Cobb:The uncle of Berry ABernathy,
Charles Abernathy, married Barbara Cobb Sept 4, 1782. She was a daughter of
AMbrose Cobb.
My husband's ancestors were Berry ABernathy and Mirah Cobb, who had children
James T., Eliza D., Archibald SYlvester, John Clayton, Joseph Loudon, Artie
A., Susan R., Martha M and Thomas A.
Any help appreciated.

Hello all,
I am researching the COBB line in Alabama and I'm looking for any info
on an Albert COBB who married Carrie JONES; daughter of Oliver and Laura
JONES of Hale County. Found Carrie on 1880 Hale County census living
with her parents but can find no record of her and COBB together on any
census even though family lore says they stayed in the Hale county
area. Any info or ideas--please!!!!!!!...........Toni
I got my post back without the Cobbs so here they are, I'd appreciate

I am trying to find information on the family of Alvie Devoe Cobb.
He was from Red Hill, Alabama. I think he was born around 1886 or
later. He was born out of wedlock and left there as a very young
teen with other family members. We know that his mother later
married and had at least one other child...she may have died in
childbirth. He came to Arkansas with either a cousin or uncle named
Will Cobb. There was also a Hulen Cobb who served in the army during
WWI. He died in California in the 60's or 7o's. There was a story
that the Cobbs left Alabama because one of the party may have killed
someone. IF any of this sounds familiar, would appreciate help
finding Alvie Devoe's mother's name. Then we could trace his
grandfather and grandmother. Thank you
Hello Cobb cousins:
I have a real mystery. My earliest ancestor, Bryant Cobb, first appears
in the 1820 census of Telfair Co, GA as a single male 16-26 years of age.
Sometime before 1825, he married, then he began to raise a family in Telfair
Co, GA. He lived in District 339 of Telfair (became part of Dodge Co in 1870)
Co, GA all his adult life. He appears to have had a total of 17 children by
at least two women. To date, I have been unable to locate his parents or
siblings. He and his family are the only COBBs in Telfair Co, GA. Per the
census records, he and his parents were born in NC. I can't trace him to the
famous COBBs of Jefferson/Clarke Co, GA; nor to the COBBs of nearby Tattnall
Co, GA; nor to the COBBs of nearby Dooly Co, GA. I've seen the book "Cobb
Chronicles" and no luck there either. Let me hear from you Georgia COBBs.
Thanks.
