I am trying to get past my GG Grandfather Alexander Grancer Cobb. Alexander
G. Cobb, b 1772, d1856, married Ruth Banks (dates unknown) in S.C. we
believe. With family they moved to Alabama around 1812 - 1818 and settled in
central Alabama west of what is now Clanton (Chilton and Bibb Counties). His
son Charles B. Cobb, b1818, d1865, was my G Grandfather. Charles married
Amelia (or Emilia) Giles. There were 12 other children in all with all but
the last (Levi) being born in S.C.
Have been unable find info on Alexander Cobb prior to coming to Alabama. Any
clues on either he or Ruth Banks is sorely needed.
Thanks Bill Cobb
Just a reminder, please do not post private email to the list. If you have a
disagreement with me or any other list member, let's please keep it private.
Should it become a problem, the offending address will be removed from the
list without prior notice.
I refuse to allow one bad apple to spoil the bunch.
Thanks,

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
Beatitudes of a Family Genealogist
Blessed are the great grandmothers,
who hoarded newspaper clippings and old letters,
For they tell the story of their time.
Blessed are all the grandfathers
who filed every legal document
For this provides proof.
Blessed are grandmothers
who preserved family Bibles and diaries,
For this is our heritage.
Blessed are fathers
who elect officials that answer letters of inquiry,
For some they are the only link to the past.
Blessed are mothers
who relate family traditions and legends to the family,
For one of her children will surely remember.
Blessed are the relatives
who fill in family sheets with extra data,
For them we owe the family history.
Blessed is any family
whose members strive for the preservation of records,
For theirs is a labour of love.
Blessed are the children
who will never say,
"Grandma, you have told that old story twice today."

MOSES COBB b.1753 s/o Samuel 1717-1781 s/o Thomas 1683-1742 m) Rachel Stone

Below is what I received. Is this all of the message? (Looks like
something didn't tranfer here.)
Anyway, I DID NOT post this data. It may be forwarded from Regina or
Karen, but I didn't post it. It is, however, in part what the book says.
(which is apparently inaccurate here on Clisby & Selina & some other
places & there are omissions in this excerpt below of what the book
says. And William Cobb, s/o Ambrose & Sarah, is omitted. He is very
possibly my ancestor, & was an executor of his father Ambrose's
will.)
Send me the rest of the message, so I'll know what to answer
here.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Hello! I'm searching for information on the ancestors and origin of my
3g-grandfather, Moses T. COBB, who is on the 1850 Christian Co, KY, census.
The family:
1 Moses T. COBB b: Abt 1811 in VA
+Ann Mariah GHOLSON b: Abt 1808 KY m: 20 Jun 1836 Christian Co, KY
2 Sarah T. COBB b: 13 Jul 1838 Christian Co?, KY
d: 13 Apr 1895 Graves Co, KY
+Daniel Henry FRISTOE b: 26 Dec 1828 Todd Co, KY
m: 25 Nov 1855 Graves Co, KY
d: 13 Nov 1892 Graves Co, KY
2 Alexander G. COBB b: 1842 KY
Please, could you all check your data bases for *any* Moses COBB or COBBS
from Virginia from any time before 1836? I have no other clues to his
ancestry... and I have never seen the name 'Moses Cobb' anywhere else.
Thank you!

Regina,
I want to thank you (& Jim White) for all the great data
you've posted. I especially appreciate your comments below on deeds &
think that this does indeed "prove something". Associations on land
records are one of THE best ways to decipher who is kin (I.e, family
groups). That was my question to Barb Petty- who is associated on
land records? That helps sort them out. Ya'll have done a thorough
research job on this and altough it is highly unlikely that 2 sets of
unrelated Cobb families wqould be in such proximity in Lincoln Co NC,
that is apparently the case as ya'll have shown.
My AL Cobbs are apparently from Ambrose, as there are tales in the family
of "back in Halifax" and that's Ambrose Cobb's group from Halifax,
VA. I have narrowed it down to William, David, or Ralph Cobb (sons of
Ambrose & Sarah). Does anyone know of children of William Cobb and
_______Abbott, or David Coob & Catherine "Kittty" Bird? I know one
daughter of David & Katherine, but they had sons (per census). Any
ideas who they are? [Per census., they had sons the age to be my
David Cobb of No. AL, as did William Cobb & wife.]
Again, thanks for posting the results of all your hard work.

New names of Cobbs and Cobb-spouse veterans of the Civil War...both Union and
Confederate...are filtering in almost every day, now. I repeat, this list
will be available to anyone at anytime, and I believe it will proove a
valuable tool for research.
Email your Civil War vet and include as much info as possible...county where
enlisted....died/survived the war....regiment....and if not named Cobb, his
connection to a Cobb. Good hunting. Mike Cobb mcbb1(a)aol.com

For those of you tracking Jesse COBB, I have some source data that I gleaned
from the Court Records of Estill Co., KY. A couple of interesting entries
are as follows:
Page 293, 20 Oct. 1810, Road review from opposite mouth of Drowning Creek,
thence through lands of Richard Oldham, through Jesse Cobb, through Andrew
Merrill, to Andrew Lackey's bottom to a point of a ridge through Joseph
Steven's and through party of Capt. Clark's crossing a dividing ridge
between tow branch of Ky. River thence through Elisha Witt's improvements
then through Roadias Fewell's land to the river crossing a small distance
above Col. Trigg's boatyard (mouth of White Oak). Passing over his land
through part of Wm. Boggs going around Trigg;s plantation leaving to the
right, keeping on the White Oak Creek, crossing it above the ford then
through a small bottom, intersecting count road a small distance below the
Sweet Licks Spring then with county road to courthouse. (Surveyor Richard
Oldham).
Page 424, 19 Oct. 1812, Green Clay the proprietor of the land on which the
town of Irvine is extablised, by act of assembly executes bond of 1000
pounds and ordered recorded. Know all men by these present that we Green
Clay, Bennett Clark, John Oldham, William Pitcher, James Scrivner, James
Smith and Joh Wright are held firmly unto Peter Evenas, Jesse Cobb, and
William CcCreery Gent. Justice of the Peace for the county of Estill.
Sealed and dated 19 Oct. 1812, by act of General Assembly of the
Commonwealth of Ky. to extablish a town in the county of Estill dated 28
Jan. 1812.
These may help in researching other families who lived close to each other.
If someone wants more please email me.
Take care,
