Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Linda Coate has made an offer to house the DNA family files on her
website - at this point I am uncomfortable sending those files to
her...so for those of you that would like to have your family
information on her site, I would suggest you email her...
John is also going to make her the Co-Admin for the FTDNA site...so at
this point all communications should be directed to either of them...

Ok, I finally got it...lol...
What happened was, I had linked the Coats Archive in a spot that said
website and then left a place for a link...now recall we've been using
FTDNA since we started this group a few years back and they have
changed their website at least a couple of times on how you access
info...what was suppose to go there was the link to the FTDNA public
page...no wonder I couldn't find a link to it on any of those pages
and couldn't figure out where to access it .... not to mention the
number of emails I've gotten over time wanting to know how to get to
it...not realizing the web site link FTDNA wanted to go there was the
FTDNA public pages....
Anyway....I was able to correct the link they put there and had added
me back as an administrator before they changed the password...so you
may still see me as the admin but I have emailed them and asked them
to take me off as an admin ...so you should see John's name back up
there soon, I think...
So any questions on the FTDNA site needs to go to him....

Sorry folks, but I thought making the Coats Website available via
disk, at a nominal fee would be much better than just taking it down
without any avenue for anyone to access all the information that was
gathered...
Apparently I didn't get the link changed soon enough for FTDNA's
purposes....:) The link by the way has been to
http://www.coatsarchive.us for at least a couple of years I think, but
now it goes to the FTDNA Coats project website...
So John Wayne Coates, you're the new administrator....:)

Ms. Coats,
Thanks for your email.
We received a complaint this week that the public website for the Coats DNA
project had been taken down and replaced with an advertisement for a
genealogy disc. I consulted with my supervisor about this issue, and he
advised me to remove you from the position of group administrator
immediately. John will now be the sole administrator for the Coats surname
project unless he contacts our office and specifies otherwise. The
administrator password has been changed. If you have any questions, I'll be
happy to direct them to my supervisor, Max Blankfeld.
Please let me know if you have any questions or if there's anything else I
can do for you.
Thanks again,
Nick Maier

"History Unearthed Daily"
Hello All,
I have a little more information to give concerning my Coats lineage that I
just recently found.
Joseph Coats was married several times.
1st wife is unknown and she was the mother to the following children:
Jemima Coats born ca 1830 in Missouri
James Coats born ca 1839 in Missouri
Washington Coats born ca 1841 in Missouri
Mary J Coats born ca 1843 in Missouri
I am not sure if there were any chilldren between Jemima and James Coats or
if Jemima was from another marriage and had a different mother than the rest
of the children. Or if James and Jemima had siblings who died young and
cannot be found.
2nd marriage was to Rhoda/Rhona maiden name uknown at this time but was on
the 1850 Livingston County, Missouri census.
Lewis Coats born ca 1848 in Missouri
William Coats born ca. 1850 in Livingston County, Missouri
Julia Coats born ca 1852 in Livingston County Missouri
Benjamin Coats born born June 1855 in Livingston County, Missouri
3rd marriage was to a Dovey Ann White on May 16, 1858 in Livingston County,
Missouri
On the 1860 Livingston County, Missouri census was also listed the following
living in the Coats home which I am not sure if they are Joseph's children,
they might have been Dovey's from a previous marriage
Mary Coats born ca 1850 in Missouri
Jas. Coats born ca 1853 in Missouri
Virginia Coats born ca. 1855 in Missouri
Sarah Coats born ca 1858 in Livingston County, Missouri (possibly Joseph and
Dovey's daugher).
By 1870 the following children where born to Joseph and Dovey and they were
now in Saline County, Missouri.
Joseph Coats born ca 1862 in Missouri
Margaret Coats "Maggie" born ca 1864 in Missouri
Marinda Coats born ca 1866 in Missouri
And listed also was
Benjamin Coats
William Coats
Mary E. Wright
James Wright (middle name could not be made out)
Virginia Wright
(so it seems that these where from Dovey's first marriage)
But Sarah is not listed on the 1870 Census.
On the 1880 Saline County, Missouri Census yielded one more child from
Joseph and Dovey.
John Coats born ca. 1870 in Saline County, Missouri.
I am not sure what happened to James Coats, Washington Coats, Mary J. Coats,
Lewis Coats, William Coats, Sarah Coats, Marinda Coats or John Coats, but I
do have the following on what I do know right now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Benjamin Coats first marriage to
wife is unknown
child is:
Mary Coats born March 1889
Benjamin Coats second marriage to
Belle Breese born January 1873
on December 21, 1895 in Livingston County, Missouri
children are:
Zelma Coats born September 1896
Hazel Coats born ca. 1902 in possibly in Washington
Mildred Coats born ca 1912 in Adams County, Billington, Washington
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The only information I have right now on Julia is this
Joseph Harden married a Julia Coats
December 18, 1888 in Lafayette County
At the time of the marriage (as listed on the Marriage record):
Joseph Harden lived in Lafayette County, Mayville, Missouri
Julia Coats lived in Lafayette County, Mayville, Missouri
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joseph W. Coats
Married
Mina Wallace (Jemima)
Child:
L. B. Coats born ca 1879 in Saline County, Missouri
note: only child I could find right now for Joseph and Mina.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Margaret Coats "Maggie"
Married
William J. Turner
On August 16, 1888 in Saline County, Missouri
children:
Joseph Levi Turner born September 1889 in Missouri
James H. Turner born April 1892 in Missouri married Anna ??
Ada Turner born October 1893 in Missouri
Edna Turner born April 1897 in Missouri
Dovey Turner born ca 1900 in Missouri
Goldie M. Turner born ca 1906 in Missouri
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is all I have on this family.
I do know that Jemima was Native American which means either one or both of
her parents were Native American.
On each census that Jemima is listed on she has both her parents as being
born in Kentucky.
If any of the above information is familiar to anyone please contact me.
Thank you
Mary
