As this message says, I think it was the FBI who had the problem.
Sorry if I alarmed anyone.

John: I think it might have been the FBI lab that had problems. I'll see if
I can find the story.
It is not uncommon for labs to have problems...but usually if they do, they
are shut down...wrong results puts their credibility into question...

Just got my DNA Print test back. 100% European. Haplogroup R1a. I
noticed this haplogroup is not as common as R1b. I had no exact matches.
The 100% European was a small surprise, but I guess all Americans of
Southern descent have that Cherokee Indian Princess in their family
lore. In case no one else has been monitoring it, there has been a
large, intense discussion about the accuracy of these tests. However, in
my case, it would seem the results are within the range which is
advertised. I think in a few years, the tests will become much more
accurate, and I hope less expensive, so everyone can afford to do it.
Everyone who has done these tests is doing themselves a disservice if
they haven't thoroughly explored the FTDNA website and printed out and
read their test results. There is no doubt in my mind that a large
amount of money is being made by some people from this testing, but then
we are contributing to the advancement of the science. At least I hope
we are.
Char; I'm thinking our common ancestor may have been in Tenn, Va, or
NC, SC. How's that for pinning it down? I need to find a Coats living
close to a Webster in TN or NC in the early 1800's. Family records say
James Robert married Josesphine Elizabeth Webster on Dec 24, 1807, in
Newberry, and their first child, my gggrandfather, John Webster Coats,
was born in Sept of 1808, in Robertson Co. TN. What a coincidence. Maybe
this is a fabrication. Maybe JWCoats was born in some other Co. in TN.
Maybe they were married in TN or NC. JR says he was born in NC on the
first few censuses, and SC on the 1850 census. Hmmm.
John, I think a lot of the connections in early genealogies were made on
guesses...and they didn't have access to as much info as we have, nor were
they able to communicate the way we can today...

We're still looking for descendants of Barton or Wilson Coats of TN...that
would really tie down the line of William Coats on Kings Creek in SC
Would be great to also have a testor from the Jeremiah Coats out of IL,
since we know that he is the son of Benjamin Coats of Smith County TN
Also, if you're a Coats, Coate, Coates male, give the DNA project some
thought and consider joining...it doesn't hurt, really...:)

I am seeking information on Raleigh/Rolly Coats who married Matilda ?? in
probably Barren County, Kentucky. He was born about 1810. He died by 1845
when his children received guardianship to Gabriel Farrell who had married
widow Matilda Coats. His oldest son, Samuel chose Gabriel Farrell as his
guardian in 1845 when he was 14 years old. The other children were underage
at this time. Any information welcome. Pat Lundy
