Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

virii out "in the wild" Three are rated level 2
and one is rated level 1 ( low risk)
Please don't start numerous threads on the mailing list
on this subject. If there are more warning please
send direct to me for checking. Lets keep these
lists focused on genealogy. If you get an infected
message from someone then let me know so they can
be removed temporarily from the list.
All the AV software companies have updated their
databases. Norton just released their latest updates
this morning and could be more soon.

There is a new virus announced as being out as of 7.30 am this morning
Dec 4th.
The general announcement from www.sarc.com is below.
It is not a really serious virus except for it's wide
distribution already this morning.
A couple of significant points.
A: get your virus definitions updated as of today
B: It's purely an attachment virus ( so simpler to handle)
Let's get ahead of this one and avoid the mess we had
two weeks ago :-)

W32.Goner.A@mm is a mass-mailing worm that is written in Visual Basic.
The worm has been compressed using a known Portable Executable (PE)* file
compressor. The worm can spread its infection using the ICQ network as well
as
by email using Microsoft Outlook. If IRC is installed, this worm can also
insert
mIRC scripts that will enable the computer to be used in Denial of Service
(DOS) attacks.

Bill there was a William Coats son of Wilson Coats of Bedford County TN that went into MS...I think he had a brother James but not sure...most of the Coats had left the Newberry SC area by 1804 with the exception of John Coats sr and jr in Laurens County and Henry and Marmaduke Coats of Newberry County...seems Henry and Marm had a brother William that went to Clark County AL...and Marmaduke was in MS for a time...Marm was the surveyor in Newberry County SC...anyway much info on this group in the Coats Archive above....
Diane...there are a bundle of Johns...<g>...but most had left SC before 1820...do you have any places for these Coats?

MS in 1840 census, with 1 son William Henry COATS, my great grandfather then 6 mo old. Then to Carroll Co. MS by 1850, where James had two brothers nearby,--- William and Moses. Then to Wood Co. TX by 1860; then to Hunt Co., TX. by 1870 until death in 1890. Buried in Shiloh Cemetery, near Greenville. His middle initial may be "B"
