The records I am finding show that George Washingtion Coatney was born in
Kentucky in 1804 and passed away at the age of 84 on June 20, 1888. My
husbands great grand father James Frances Coatney was born in 1834 in
Lafayette, Missouri and passed away on the June 9, 1916 in Greenforest
Carroll, Arkansas. They buried him at Snow Cemetery also in Greenforest
Carroll, Ark. I haven't been able to trace his side to NC or SC as yet.

Hello Jackie Coatney,
George Washington Coatney & Margaret Smith are my 2nd Great Grandparents.
I've never found any compelling information as to their parents.
I do have quite a bit of information if you would like to contact me off
list at csm0373(a)comcast.net

My George Washington Courtney was born in 1849-1925, B- in either NC or SC
& DIED IN 1925, buried at Liberty Hill Baptist Ch, Chesterfield
County,SC.--He married a Nancy J. Plyller [2nd husband] & had one son John Fletcher
Courtney 1879-1947 [ my grandfather ]
I think ???? his father was John Courtney & mother was Martha ? . In 1850
census he is listed as head of one household with daughter Rebecca Rollins
& her children & Martha Coatney & her 3 children Oliver 6, Mary 4 & George
W. age one in another household. Don't know if they were married or not,
haven't found any records but that county is a burned county. She married a
Alfred Hope here in Union County,NC in 1852 & listed in SC in 1860. I have
searched for proof of his father for 20 plus years. One I know is NOT his
father is a John Fletcher Courtney 1829 Va. d 1865 as a POW in Ga. He was
only 14 when Oliver was born & living with his family in Va . Some trees
have him as the father of GWC.-- People say he is from Robert Courtney that
died in Anson County NC in 1751 line but I don't know. . What state is your
line from ? Mable
