Hello Folks, just a quick update to touch base with you all.
I have spent the last few months up and down to Kew continuing to document
the careers of the various Coath excise men.
I have also now discovered nearly every Coath in the 1851-1901 census
records despite their various "alibi's" (Couth, Goath, Cope, Coash, Gopath,
Gooch, etc)
I was looking forward to the 1911 census until I recently discovered that it
is unlikely ever to be released. The reason being is that all that has
survived is the individual sheets that were filled in by each house holder.
A great many are stuck together by mold and damp and some have just plain
rotted.
I have also discovered an even earlier holder of our surname than John
Coathe.
The record is in Genesis chapter 46 verse 11; "And the sons of Levi;
Gershon, Coath, and Merari"
After a recent computer catastrophe (again) I have managed to redo all my
family files from back-ups but I did however lose all my e-mails.
I remember that several of you said that you had some information to send
me, The siege of Skewis Castle was I believe one piece of information, as
was the children of Walter Coath who were born in Ireland.
Can I ask if anyone still has this information?
I have also received quite a few enquiries from people who claim to be
related who are asking for access to the family trees on my website without
offering any information in return.
I have only had one reply back after I asked for their own family history
and that was to rebuke me for "not releasing information that she had a
right to do with as she damn well pleased".
I feel that if this continues I might have to take down the trees (which by
the way do not contain any information on living people.)
I have the honor to be
With the highest respect
